Johnny Appleseed Goes a Planting
As a teacher I thought that this book was great. I was looking for a book on Johnny Appleseed to use with my class. The book does a great job explaining the American folk hero. It also adds some factual information about John Chapman. The authors choice of descriptive words and the illustraters bright pictures are sure to keep your readers attention. The book also serves as a good lead in for a cross curriculur study involving science and social studies. It would be great for early primary K - 3.

The loss of the Lady Lex during the Battle of the Coral Sea.
America had only six carriers at the beginning of World War II. The oldest was the Lexington, the second carrier in the U.S. Fleet after the Langley. She was build on the frame of a battle cruiser, had a good crew headed by Sherman, and a good record. During the Battle of the Coral Sea she was lost after sustaining multiple torpedo and bomb hits which exploded ordinance inside here. The author details the history of this mighty ship and the last eight hours of her life.
I like the insight the author put into this book. He interviewed a good number of personnel from the Lexington before he wrote this account. This shows the didication the personnel of the ship had towards saving her after her many hits. It also shows the death of many while fighting the fires and then abandoning the ship. It is a great story about a great ship.

A Readable Collection of First-Hand Accounts
This is an easily read collection of first hand remembrances of the loss of the first carrier Lexington, CV2. The author has gathered a large number of accounts from both crew members of the Lexington and from those on the escorting vessels. The book is divided into two parts - the first focusing on the attack on the carrier when there was hope she would survive and the second focusing on the events leading to her loss. An enjoyable book that gives an insight into what it was like to serve on a carrier in the early days of WWII.

An entertaining little book
Little Rabbit just couldn't go to sleep ~~ he keeps finding all different things that goes creak and bump in the night. So he goes to Grandpa for some help in answering some questions and for a story.

This is another keeper in our library. The boys love this one too ~~ they love the illustrations and the pictures of the silver moon and of the crickets. This is a sweet bedtime story that the parents can read without getting too tired of reading it over and over again. My husband and I both have read this one and we really enjoy it!

If you are into fine illustrations and a cute story, this book will not disappoint you. It's really a cute book!(...)

Magic School Bus "Goes Upstream"
The Magic School Bus "Goes Upstream" is one of the better books in the series, because of the science and the knowledge you receive. I am 9 years old, but I read all the books in the series when I was 7( although I read the new ones as they come out). The facts are easy to remember, for example, thier keen sense of smell allows salmon to "smell out" their food.Salmon have a lot of predators like bears and sharks. This book is better for younger kids then older kids, because they give you only simple, quick facts and nothing more. However, THIS BOOK IS GREAT!

This explains where the Hawaiian islands came from
I enjoyed this story growing up, but not as much as How Maui Slowed the Sun. I have bought both stories for my children, both of which they enjoy.

This is a fun book in which you get see how tricky Maui can be. The only problem with it is, if you aren't used to the Hawaiian language, you might have some difficulty with some of the names. Other than that, it's a fun book to read.

Me and Dimaggio: A Baseball Fan Goes in Search of His Gods

All real baseball fans can conjure up the moment the game first cast its spell on them. For Christopher Lehmann-Haupt, it came through the static of the radio, spurring his imagination to witness vividly a three home-run performance in the late 1940s by the great Joe DiMaggio. Cut to half a lifetime later: Lehmann-Haupt, a New York Times book critic, decides to set off on a year-long journey into the heart of America's national pastime. Less intent on recapturing that first moment as on exploring the game's sometimes mystical and continual appeal, he follows a season from spring training to winter meetings. Me and DiMaggio is memoir cloaked in reportage, a tricky melding of genres that's never quite sure whether it's journal or journalism. Still, there are so many good insights into the game here--and a fascinating, if oddly sad, encounter with the elusive DiMaggio himself--that if Lehmann-Haupt doesn't quite reach the fences, he at least gets himself into scoring position.

A worthwhile late-70s look at baseball and writing
This unusual memoir from Christopher Lehmann-Haupt, book reviewer for the New York Times, explores his relationship with the game of baseball, and with his hero, New York Yankees center fielder Joe DiMaggio. The defining event of the story is the afternoon of his childhood, when he became a baseball fan while listening to a New York Yankees game on the radio. On that day, DiMaggio hit three home runs against the Cleveland Indians. From that point, Lehmann-Haupt explores his feelings about the game, and eventually takes us with him on a tour through the 1979 season, including his encounter with Joltin' Joe himself. I would guess I have read at least a hundred baseball books; this is not the greatest one, but none are much like it, either. It's worth your time and money.
