Like most big lift the flap books, fun and educational
It seems like most all of this kind of big lift the flap books are a little similar---a page about letters, one about numbers, an opposite page and so forth, but they are also all pretty well done and big child pleasers! My 2 sons really like this one. Their favorite part is the "book within a book" of The Three Little Pigs. It got my older son interested in that fairy tale, which we then read in different versions, and then in fairy tales in general! One thing to note---the characters of Arthur and Francine and all of the gang seem younger in this book than in the show, more like preschool versions of themselves.

A winner!
My four year old son has 3 precious "comfort" reads and this is one of them. We've read it so many times together he knows it by heart. It's a great book because not only does it hold his interest (he never tires of the flaps) but it also reinforces the alphabet, counting and teaches him about opposites. And it's also a fun book for me to read aloud (over and over . . . )

I had to buy two!
An excellent book for school readiness. My kids
fought over it so much that I had to buy a
second copy! An absolute must-have for all
4-year-olds. Make sure to buy one for each
child!

Very, very pretty, but ...
I heartily endorse all the glowing praise of other reviewers for the layout and the fine grain of the spectacular photographs. Design excellence.

I know personally one of the editorial panel and, yes, he is among the world's leading authority in his field. From that I assume the others are, too.

BUT, for all the science and thought that has gone into the book it has two critical flaws.

(1) it suffers from "vertebrate chauvinism". Most of the world's animals are not vertebrates, but most of this book is devoted to vertebrates. Biodiversity depends on far, far more than the vertebrates.

(2) it omits one of the planet's most populous species, a species which, by its spread, has changed the lives of most other species and is causing many of them to become extinct. I refer to the human species. Can you believe it is not listed!

How can a book which appears to be otherwise so scientifically sound, in the twenty-first century, get these two things so wrong?

Despite these fundamental flaws, the book is a gem. My copy is prominent in our house and everyone dips into it almost daily. A feast!

great fun
Two of my children are huge Barney fans and the love this book.I read it to them right after our first visit to the zooand they loved that they saw all the animals that are in the book. They love to pull open the flaps to see who is underneath.I have read this story to them many times.

Great Children's fun
All 3 of my children have loved this book. The colorful illustrations give much to discuss in addition to the text. Children learn animal sounds, colors, and the lift-up flaps engage children in the story. I have also bought this book for gifts and all children seem to love it.

Nice Pictures-Silly Story
The visuals were great--soft colors, cute animals, but I did not like introducing the idea of hanging onto parents legs and having them stay in kindergarten and fully participate in the children's activities. It was an unrealistic expectation. Kindergarteners are now entering the real world of big school and should be made more aware of what they can truly expect. I found that to be true in "'Twas the Night Before Kindergarten" and "When You Go To Kindergarten". This may be a cute story for younger children but not as a preparation for real school.

Kindergarten Bliss
I took this book out of the library to read to my 5 year old son who will be entering Kindergarten in September. My son has already begun to express some anxiety, so when I saw the title I thought I would bring it home. I had no idea that I would enjoy this book as much as my son...maybe even more. I have not laughed so hard in ages. My laughter made my son laugh, which set me off even more! What a charming, wonderful, inspiring story with the best illustrations around. What a find! I intend to buy lots of copies to share with friends!

Enticing view of Kindergarten for kids and adults
This book is really adorable and not what you expect. The realistic-style illustrations of the Panda family and Mrs. Polar Bear make the goofy details (like Baby's stuffed human doll and the "All New Bamboo Cookbook") all the more funny and surprising.

Readers will love the sight of Mr. and Mrs. Panda singing "I'm a little teapot" and Mr. Panda wearing a sailor hat in his office.

This book is delightfully original, exuberant, and has a great subtle humor. Lots of fun!

Understanding the aspects of being a strong Christian
This book surely applied the need of help and suppport to those Christians who are facing ideological challenge. This is also suitable to those who want to understand and know the difference between Christianity and other religions. Any individual who questions themselves about being a believer of a religion whether they're in college or in a diverse religious environment, I would like to recommend this book to those who thinks it's nesscessary for them to understand about the aspects.

It could turn oneself to be a stronger Christian.

Absolutely a Great Book (Excuse the pun)
This book does an excellent job of both explaining and reacting to the *isms of the world. Sire manages to not only explain the *isms in understandable terms, he makes it interesting by using a realistic life example: going to a secular college. The book is held together by the thoughts and dialogue of Chris Chrisman and unexpected counterpart: Bob Wong. Both characters are students that go into college with opposite convictions, and through a set of similar circumstances, they both begin to doubt and question their beliefs. The book uses their circumstances to teach the reader about relativism, pluralism, individualism and more. Sire uses easy to understand logic and philosophy coupled with the each situation to convey the the truth: that there are absolutes.

The book would make a great graduation gift for a friend or family member that will be going off to college.

Every Christian going off to college should have & read ofte
I give every young person from our church off to college this book in the hopes it will begin to open their eyes to the truth that will be shortly challenged at most colleges and universities --- absolute truth.

Sire does an admirable job of Chris' college life of the temptations and protections against the "ism's" of relativism, individualism and pluralism." One might add consumerism and postmodernism to this list. Maybe Sire will in a rewrite.

This book is winsome! Put it into the hands of the college students you know, or get and read it if you're now there.

One of the weaker ones from the mid to late 1980's
When I read this book back in the 5th grade, I was actually dissapointed cause it wasn't as funny like Garfield Loses His Feet or Garfield Rounds Out, but if you love garfield, then you should give this book a try.
Love live Garfield.

GARFIELD RULES!
Everybody out there keep buying Garfield books! They can be worth a lot of money someday and can become collector's items! I'm always going to keep all of mine so when I have kids they can read them!

This Is one of the best Garfield Books ever.
Garfield does everything in this book-reminisces with Odie, catches mice, eats all the lasagna (of course) and abuses Jon. This book is another pat-on-the-back for Garfield and his lovable friends and foes.

OF POLITICIANS, PAGES & EXOTIC DANCERS
Part history, part civics lesson, part horny coming-of-age story, "Master Jones Goes To Washington" describes a few weeks in the life of a (somewhat) innocent high school student picked to serve as a congressional page. Think "Almost Famous" with the rock stars replaced by politicians.

It is the late 1960's, and our hero has several weighty issues on his mind: the Vietnam war, civil rights, and how much is too much to spend on drinks for strippers. While in Washington he baby-sits a congressman's trouble-prone kids, has several rowdy after-hours adventures with his fellow pages, and gets caught doing something naughty by a future President of the United States. He even learns a thing or two about government. By the end of his story, Master Jones has lost his innocence in more ways than one.

Hugh Brown has a humorous, conversational writing style that makes you feel as if you're hearing these stories over a few beers at the local pub. This book is not for everyone. The far right crowd won't like the politics or some of the more R-rated episodes, while those just looking for crazy high jinks may be bored by the digressions into political trivia and news of the day. But if you don't mind a little sex with your politics (or a little politics with your sex) then you'll enjoy going to Washington with Master Jones.

mgr212,tbrown say's
i travel often, and when i'm on the road i look for books that can get me through the trip.not to long or to short.m.j. goes to washington was just the book for me. i planned on reading it coming and going home, but when i got to my destination i kept on reading into the night.anyone who grew up in the 60's will remember a master jones type from their school. it was a different look at what goes on inside the beltway and one of those books that you can't put down.easy reading, good story line, with a good mix of history. master jones rocks!

Personalizing Politics
Described frequently as a coming-of-age tale, MJ Goes to Washington is a sweet trip down memory lane for those of us who remember 8 track tapes, the Student Protest Movement, and trying to move into adulthood despite our high school teachers. Brown's love of politics and history shine throughout this book. This book has more than one main theme. The preoccupation that teenage boys have with sex is one theme that occurs throughout. There are some touching parts such as the kid (Brown) who can't get enough of Washington strip clubs at night while he limps around in a pair of blister-making shoes during the day. In addition to the part of the story that appeals to everyone who remembers what it was like to be a teenager, MJ Goes to Washington is an incredibly well-researched summary of the late 60's.

It is a good book.
It is about a funny camping trip. My favorite part is when Amelia Bedelia goes boating, and takes all the boats with her. I am seven years old.

Rita says this book gets five stars....
My granddaughter Rita is helping me write this review. She says this is one of her favorite books, and she recommends it to other kids. Rita read this book when she was in first grade. She's in second grade this year.

Rita says the story starts when the familiy is going on a camping trip. She says Amelia's Dad says "Let's Hit the Road" and and Amelia picks up a stick and starts hitting the road. Amelia seems to always get things wrong. When they get to the campsite she falls in the river and her clothes are all wet.

But one day, Amelia's Dad forgets his own birthday, so Amelia Bedelia makes a cake and fancy dinner for him. And the family starts singing "Happy Birthday to You." And he thanks Amelia Bedelia for the cake. Amelia finally does something that pleases her Dad. The End.

A Great Book for Beginners
This is a great book for young children. There is no bad language just good, clean reading. It's funny and amusing and will keep your children laughing.

Fun, entertaining, and informative.
I am a college instructor and have decided to use this book in my History of Popular Music class. I found this book to be very thorough and concise and stays focused on relevant material. I also appreciate the use of historical context when describing a period of music. This book is fun, entertaining, and very informative as it relays the development of our pop music. A must read for music lovers--even if you are not in school!

Excellent coverage of the evolution of music in America
The Beat Goes On provides an excellent view of how we got from "Oh, Susanna" to "My Sharonna".The only problems are caused by trying to cover so much material in one book. Anyone who wants to learn why what we listen to sounds they way it does should get this book. Hihgly recommended.

I've met Dr. Campbell
and took his class. I'm pretty sure he even knows me by name. I bought the book, but never read it. I've yet to return the book, so someday in the future, i may read it. But if that book is one tenth as good as his lectures and computer notes were, then i give it my full endoresement.
