Beautiful Childrens Book Series
This book is a wonderful Continuation of the story of Haffertee Hamster Diamond, a stuffed hamster lovingly made by the mother of a little girl named Diamond Yo when her pet hamster died. It is a wonderful way to share the message of God's love with your little ones. I loved this series as a little girl and love it even more as I share it with my children.

Haffertee Starts School
The Haffertee Hamster series published by Lion Press is a wonderful series. Delightful illustrations, the story is a charming children's fantasy, based in a loving family, the Diamonds. I am amazed that it is still not published. Our family read the series aloud and laughed and cried with the Diamond Family over the adventures and misadventures of Haffertee. Of course, the stories are for young children but I remember them fondly as well because with all the sweetness there was also food for thought. Easter and Christmas are explored and explained in a NEW way but still biblical and Christian. I wouldn't part with my six beaten pb books: HAFFERTEE STARTS SCHOOL, HAFFERTEE'S FIRST CHRISTMAS, HAFFERTEE GOES EXPLORING, HAFFERTEE'S FIRST EASTER, HAFFERTEE HAMSTER'S NEW HOUSE, AND HAFFERTEE HAMSTER DIAMOND (the first in the series). I would highly recommend then to any family, even those who may not celebrate Christmas or Easter, they are that good.

Great Book for Freshwater Boaters
This is like a Boy Scout Handbook for power boaters. Filled with detailed information and great illustrations, it is a must for every boater. Whether you are an occasional boater or an faithfull weekend warrior this book should be read and kept on board. The rescue techniques and boat handling methods are very important for all of us to practice when we are out on the waters. Luttrell's book should be required reading for every person who rents boats for the occasional trip to the lake.

Hemingway Colloquium: The Poet Goes To Cuba
This book stuns. It is stunningly crafted and stunningly written, containing some of Locklin's best work, to be cherished by Locklin lovers and Hemingway lovers. Locklin will take you to Hemingway's Cuba as no one has done before, and you will be with Locklin all the way via his magnetic poetry. The book itself is old-fashioned, a piece of craft rather than a bunch of paper and glue. I recommend doing as I did--buy 2 copies, one to read all night (I did), and one to keep for your grandchildren, so that they can sell it to pay for their college tuition.

Cute fun with pull tabs
Actually for ages 2-6, not 4-8. A plump hen goes shopping to various stores for her friends and neighbors. The reader watches her work down her list, and then can fill her basket as she moves through the pages by pulling down the pull tabs. In addition, there are cheeky, funny flip up tab results, like worms appearing under the apple-pull-tab, or a satiated mouse in a flip up bread box. The reader can name the fruits at the stall, name the shapes of the baker's breads, the colors on the florist's blooms, name the sizes of the dairyman's milk cartons, or the countries' flags on his cheese wedges. And then you can guess what is missing on the last page.

An hilarious, demented, outrageous satire. I loved it! What a movie it would make! But it's definitely not for kids.

How We Live Matters!
Leslie Vernick illuminates the pathway to lasting emotional and spiritual growth in The Truth Principle with easily remembered steps I can take throughout the day. The vivid examples from the Bible as well as Leslie's vulnerable personal ones illustrate clearly my need to identify my thoughts and feelings, which motivate my behavior. I have read a number of books regarding growth because I want to grow in my love relationship with Christ. This is one of the best. Leslie's book clearly explains how I need to look truthfully at my desires to see if they are actually idols blocking the relationship I sincerely want. I have already begun practicing the steps I learned from this book because I agree with Leslie: It is in learning to handle the little things we encounter in life that we develop what is needed to handle life's bigger problems. I'm looking forward to seeing how following these steps will free me from patterns of weaknesses hindering my growth! I plan to purchase copies of this book for friends and counselors I know!

Humphrey Goes to the Ball

Humphrey Goes to the Ball
This is the last book in the quartet about Humphrey the Hippo and his friend Bird. The other books in this series are (in order); Humphrey the Hippo, Humphrey's New Trousers, and Humphrey of the Rovers.

In this one, Humphrey is overjoyed to be invited to the Mayor's Fancy Dress Ball. As it is a Fancy Dress Ball, Humphrey and Bird (Humphrey's faithful sidekick) must find something to dress up as. They decide to dress Humphrey up as a pirate, and Bird gets to be his parrot.

At the ball, Humphrey has a wonderful time dancing, especially when another hippo shows up. Humphrey gets exited, and dances wildly with the hippo. When the dance ends, Humphrey throws the hippo up in the air, and accidentally drops it! The hippo's head comes off, revealing the Mayor sitting in the rest of his costume.

Humphrey apologizes for dropping him on the floor, and the mayor responds " 'No harm done, but I want you to do something for me.' 'What's that' asked Humphrey. 'Take some dancing lessons before next year's Ball!' "

This book is absolutely wonderful. Its style is straightforward and endearing. The pictures are bold, colorful and funny. This one is not my favorite in the series, but it is still wonderful. It is a big shame that this series is out of print.
