A wonderful contribution to metaphysical studies.
The Call Goes Out: Messages from the Earth's Cetaceans is a collection of messages channeled by Diane Robbins from cetaceans (whales and dolphins), graphically spelling out why these life forms are here on Earth, how they work with extra-terrestrials, and how humans are interfering with their unique mission. Through Robbins, these creatures present an impassioned pleas for humans to stop whaling and cease the using of dolphin-killing fishing nets -- and to free whales and dolphins held in captivity in human aquariums and pens. Highly recommended reading for students of metaphysics, New Age studies, and extraterrestrial contact issues, The Call Goes Out is a revelation of the rich family and cultural life of non-human but intelligent species sharing planet Earth.

Historical Interpretation is Alive and Well in America!
There are many wonderful facets to this story about a young boy who joins his family for an annual reenactment of the battle at Gettysburg. A pictoral essay provides an authentic look at the preparation and event providing an excellent forum for discussion among readers. The story, however, told from the perspective of this proud, young boy, shares a spirit of patriotism and historical empathy this is often difficult to relay to children as well as adults. Charley's experiences interpreting history as a reenactor emphasize the power of experiential learning. Every Social Studies teacher should read, learn from and share this beautiful story with students making note of the many history teachers in our students' lives -- parents, siblings, community members, museums and organizations!

Chippy Goes to the Dentist
My daughter loves this book! We read this book many times when she was two. It talks about the importance of brushing, especially after eating candy and a visit to the dentist. It really prepared my daughter for her first visit at the dentist at the age of 3. She was excellent. My dentist and his employees loved her, she even had her teeth cleaned. Being in the medical field, I love these type of books that prepare children for the unexpected! I highly recommend this book!

An exciting story to which all children can relate.
The book tells its tale of a young girl in a new town, meeting new people and dealing with some of the fears and problems of adolescence, in a flowing story that reads smoothly and on a level that does not look down on its readers. All youngsters, boys as well as girls, will relate to the characters and the situations that they must deal with, including making new friends, and the plot line will definitely keep the reader's interest.

Big Dog in a Big Town.
Clifford is more than just a big red dog. As it turns out, he's also a great actor. So a famous director casts Clifford in a movie and a short time later, he's a star. It's off to Hollywood; swimming pools, movie stars, and fancy food. But Clifford has to leave Emily Elizabeth behind. Is fame worth the cost of family? Great book with a subtle message about the importance of family and the simpler things in life.

Great Book To Expose to Native American Customs
This book by far is one of my four year old daughter's favorites. It was wonderful to expose her to concepts about how a new world was created, the sacred pipe, Sun Dances and more. I found it a great introduction to a Native American point of view. This book has four short stories: Coyote Creates A New World, Coyote and Mice, Coyote and Woodpecker, and Coyote and the Buffalo Bull. They are perfect read apart, or cover to cover. The pictures are superb! The intro by the author even explains Coyote's role. I recommend this book for all ages.

Elizabeth Twistington Higgins (1923-1990)
Elizabeth got polio at the height of her career, and she did whatever she needed to succeed. Since she could no longer dance, she formed a ballet company and taught. Since she could no longer use her hands, she learned to paint beautiful ballerinas and angels with a paint brush in her mouth. The book is wonderful to read and has many of her beautiful pictures and drawings in it. Elizabeth, who was totally paralysed by the poliovirus, says: "I am often asked what it feels like to be paralysed. Apart from being unable to move...and the non-stop battle to breathe, my body feels normal. If I could be granted three wishes I would choose the return of my diaphram, my hands and my arms." She enjoyed her work, and was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1977. Elizabeth was dealt a difficult hand, but she managed to deal with it. When asked what her ultimate goal was she answered, "I should think a nice little dance in heaven." And so, the dance does go on...

DC Goes To The Movies : A Unique Guide To The Reel Washington

Exhaustively researched, delightfully presented!
What a wonderful alternative tour guide to DC this book makes! It belongs in every public library of any size, and anyone interested in film or Washington, DC, will prize this book. It is THE definitive guide to movies made in Washington, DC.

The book is divided into several sections. The first part provides walking tours of DC neighborhoods in which you can see the film locales of such movies as "The Exorcist," "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," "All the President's Men," "Enemy of the State," the sci-fi classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still," "Independence Day," "Pelican Brief," "Bye, Bye Birdie," "Born Yesterday," Spike Lee's "Get On the Bus," "Broadcast News," "True Lies" and countless other familiar movies, new and old.

The book also has a list of films made in DC which tells all DC locales used in the film. It even tells you the very second when you can see each locale in the film! If you want to know exactly where Will Smith shopped for ladies' lingerie in "Enemy of the State," this book tells you the location of the shop AND when it happened in the movie.

Finally, the book provides countless bits of interesting film trivia in a "fun stuff" section. There you can find such things as locales outside DC which doubled as DC locales (for example, the Baltimore subway has often been used as the DC subway in films) and mistakes made in DC films (like Holly Hunter giving wrong directions to cab drivers in "Broadcast News").

This book is a delight from cover to cover. If you love films, and if you live in or plan to visit Washington, DC, this book is a MUST SEE!
