Sensitive, informative and adorable approach to subject
Going to the doctor for the first time can be unsettling and if not handled well, that feeling could last a lifetime. The author does a wonderful job of approaching the subject. She showes how love and understanding and support can overcome fear. Her explanations as to what goes on in a doctor's office and the importance of the visit are terrific and very easy to understand. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and look forward to their next adventure!

Takes the fear out of going to the doctor!
Incredible pictures and a touching story about a very scary subject. Even children without pets will identify with the little pup's fears of visiting the doctor for the first time. This is the third book I have read about these dogs, and my kids and I love each one more than the last. Congratulations on creating such wonderful characters, beautiful illustrations and life-learning lessons.

Southern California tour guide especially geared towards par
Finally there is a Southern California tour guide especially geared towards parents of babies and toddlers. Your children learn best through first hand experiences and Baby's Day Out is chock full of great places for the young (and not so young) to experience the things they love like animals, trains, parks, aquariums, tide pools, hands-on museums and more. My 10 year old and 61/2 year old twins still love to visit many of the places listed in JoBea Way's comprehensive guide. They also have a list of many new places for us to visit as well.

The book is broken down into eleven chapters covering major areas of interest for young children: Museums, Our City, Gardens and Nature, The Zoo, Aquariums, Trains and more. There are over 224 separate sites reviewed. Locations covered include the expected Los Angeles and San Diego Zoos as well as many less well known places like the Goodyear Blimp Airfield, Tierra Rejada Farm and Pasadena Unified School Bus Lot.

The book includes many helpful tips for making outings more enjoyable and each review contains a concise description, directions with Thomas Guide page references, and cross references to both similar sites and nearby attractions. Easy to spot icons let parents know if the locations can accommodate single and or double wide strollers (most do), and whether gift shops, snack shops or picnic areas are available so parents can plan accordingly. I love the lists of children's books on topic related to each entry and the special pages with simple graphics of animals or things that go, etc. These pages are designed for young children's use before, during or after their visits. For example, the first picture pages are of cars and trucks children might see on the way to their visit.

The final chapter includes a month-by-month "Things to Look For" section featuring holiday, special events and seasonal changes to watch for geared to Southern California. There are comprehensive listings of Fourth of July displays, Holiday lights, Farmer's Markets and more. These lists alone are a great resource whether you have young children or not.

The number and variety of places listed is truly impressive. Our family has been enjoying working our way through the book and finding many new favorites. I plan to give this book as a shower gift to all my pregnant friends and think the book is a great resource for parents of school age children and teachers also.

A Survival book for the S. Cal. Parent
Whether you are from S. Cal or just visiting, this is the book for anyone wanting to have an enjoyable day with their children in Southern California. It is filled with ideas and facts about more than just the usual L.A. attractions. And it is geared toward the parent with young children and what is fun and appropriate for them. After I used it once, I don't go anywhere without this book. I just leave it in the car. You'll never be at a loss for places to go and the best way to see them. It is obvious that Dr. Holt did her research and has been to all of these places firsthand. There are no blind recommendations and her ideas for fun and free adventures really inspired me to get out there and explore with my children. Buy this book and you are on the road to years of hassle free outings with your kids.

A Great Guide For Creating Adventure and Wonderful Memories
Where was this book when I had my first child? This book is a great way to help plan fun outings with little kids, especially if you're new to parenting or Southern California. It's well organized, very thorough, easy to use, and formatted so that you can get an overview without getting bogged down in too much detail. I like how you can check out the events that occur by month, like the harvest festivals or holiday events. I highly recommend this book for new moms and moms who are looking for adventure and wonderful memories with their kids.

Texas is Big, buy a good camping book.
I live in Texas, and I have so for all of my life, but it is sure is surprising to find out how big Texas exactly is. In this book you get, in detail, a listing of state and national parks and forest for the 4 regions of Texas. Being that Texas is so big, each region tends to have all different types of camp sights compared to some of the other regions. The nice thing about this book is it gives you information about OTHER parts of Texas, perhaps that you haven't visited yet. I love to camp but tend to stick to those areas near me, or that I visited as a child. This book should give you enough information to maybe visiting some new sights.

the book to have for camping in texas
I operate a year round therapeutic camp for teen boys. The camp goes on many trips, from day trips to extended trips. This book by Mickey Little is an invaluable resource in planning the trips for my staff and 30 boys. Lots of maps, descriptions on campsites and group sites, and of course, activities for the kids once we get there. I would'nt plan a trip without Mickey.

Best single book on state park camping in texas
Although it includes many commercial campgrounds also, this book is superb for selecting, contacting, and describing the many state parks in Texas...we have found no better!!

BUY THIS BOOK! MMMM GOOD BOOK!
GREAT BOOK! Basiclly all I can say. Better than a How-To book. Its a barrage of many wonderful stories, history, and some awesome pictures of the best carvings I have seen. Keep up the good work Bruce, and BUY THIS BOOK!! EVERYONE!!!! :)

Mirror Image
If you have no other book about carousels, this is the one to have. Not only does the book illuminate the history of carousels, dispelling some common myths along the way, but the step-by-step, well illustrated process of carving a carousel is clearly explained in easy to understand terms. As Bruce's identical twin brother I can attest to the heart, mind and artistry that goes into every one of Bruce's creations. Many years ago I received a call from Bruce and he pleaded for my help. I replied that I had no knowledge or skill. Bruce persisted and taught me how to carve carousels using the same steps and techniques described in this book - several of the carousels I have carved are pictured in this book. Perhaps one of your creations will be in his next book!

Dream Weavers
Although this magnificent book is being marketed as a strictly how-to book, as a lover of carousels I attest to the fact that this book includes more history and delightful anecdotes about carousels, horses, designs and designers than any other book ever. Bruce encourages you to set your imagination free. Also, there is a step by step structure showing Bruce's one of a kind process. Even if you don't carve or don't want to start, it is still enlightening to see how this present day master carver makes lovely masterpieces for carousels and living rooms.

Your children will love it
I am 34 years old, and vividly remember this book. I remember that it was in our school library and I would check it out over and over. The librarian actually told me that I had to let someone else check it out.The story and the illustrations are wonderful for elementary school children.

Don and Donna Go To Bat
I am 39 and this book is still firmly entrenched in my brain. It was the first book I ever wrote a book report on for class. The story is about twin brother and sister. The brother plays baseball and the sister feels left out. On the day of the big championship game the brother comes down sick with the flu. The sister is an identical twin when she puts her hair under her cap. Donna plays in the game unsuspectingly and.... you should read the book to catch the ending. It's a wonderful book for youngsters.

Supreme Child's Book
Don and Donna Go To Bat is a wonderful book for children to learn about facing up to your own fears to help someone you care for. My love for baseball came from reading this book. Never in my life has a book had such an effect on life.

Most fun book to read on the shelf!
You'll find yourself saying "See you later Alligator" to all your work collegues and making up new rhymes with your child.

You don't need the hand puppet for this to be a fun book, so a used copy is a good bet!

Great Anytime Book
I used to read this book to my son every night about 20 times. He loved it - we used the Fred puppet to tickle him. I now use it for my daughter. It teaches about rhyming, different animals, brushing teeth, bathing and just going to bed. My son even likes to read it to my daughter. I recommend this to anyone with children 15 months to 3 years of age!

Go To Bed Fred
This is a cute story about getting ready for bed. You can use the puppet to participate with kids. The puppet is of good quality and the book is relaxing fun! The best part of the book is that it is long enough to be entertaining, but short enough that mom doesn't have to be up all night reading it!

One of my favorite childhood books!
I read this book as a child and remembered the title of it through the years. My local library was able to borrow it from another library so that I could sit down with my 3rd and 5th grader and read. It was wonderful! We loved getting to know the 6 children and finding clues and treasures in the old Seattle house in which they lived. The ending was so refreshing. Instead of finding money and riches, they found something that would be even more special than that to a child!

great kids book
I remember first getting this out from my school library in fourth grade (I'm a high school senior, now). I can't honestly remember if I liked it then or not, but I know that when I reread it in maybe seventh grade, I loved it. I know I was always wishing I would pull down my shade one day and a note would pop out (but, alas, it never did happen ;-)

Lately I've had the urge to read it again, and need to do some searching around for it. But this is an awesome book, and even though I'm not one for mysteries, I couldn't put it down.

One of my all-time favorite books, grades 5-7
I've been looking for this out-of-print book for _years_ and AMAZON.COM found it for me. Yeah!

The fun stuff: Capitol Hill in Seattle, a treasure hunt of mysterious clues, a _huge_ Edwardian mansion.

Yet it truly reflects its 1969 publication: Children dealing with civil rights issues, the stress of moving to a 'big' city, discovering crime literally in your own back yard, even a guest appearance by a shell-shocked Vietnam vet. But if someone wanted to make it into a movie, it could easily be set in the present.

NOTE: This book is obviously written about a specific house in Seattle. The book tells us the house is across the street from Volunteer Park near 10th Avenue, and near a cathedral (which must be St. Mark's). If anyone knows which house it is, I've been wondering about this for almost 30 years. Betty K Irwin, are you out there?

THE BEST!
This is the best book I have read in a long time, actually ever! It is so inspirational and uplifting. I recommend it to anyone and everyone! My daughter who is going to college in the fall also loved it-would make a great gift for any teenager! Great confidence booster!

I wish I could give it more stars!!!
This book touches your spirit and is simply beautiful. The photographs are beautiful and hearing the twins in each of their own voices discussing their lives as twins; family life; their struggles and their triumphs is a work to behold.

They make you know that anything is possible and share the steps they've taken to attain their successes. Could not put it down.

For Those Who Are Scared of Facing Their Destiny
I read this book in one sitting. It felt like a deep conversation that I'd have with two old friends at two in the morning. Calvin and Alvin's voices intertwine throughout the book to give this incredible view of their life which in many ways feels like one life. They say, "This is who we are and this is what we have experienced and this is what we have learned." What I heard is, "Be who you are and experience what you experience and learn from it." Their story is told simply, with love and reverence. Their story is one that hands you, the reader, courage as if it is their gift to you. Their story encourages you to look within yourself and say, "Oh yeah, this is who I am supposed to be. How did I get so lost? How do I return to where I need to be?" Go to YOUR destiny. I will meet you there.
