feeling down
I bought this book because there was a point in my life after 4 kids and a divorce that I felt "blue" most everyday. This book was very helpful with tips and insight, After a second marriage where the blended family thing was a problem, I read this book a lot. It has been was a very hekpful book for me to read to understand depression and the different causes and types.

Biographies on an underappreciated eccentric
The value of biographies on the more illustrious eccentrics is that the ideas, insights, and accomplishments of their lives can be taken out of the sometimes confusing even frustrating daily context and presented as a meaningful whole, where the importance of their voices in society can be evaluated and appreciated. This personal biography adds to this value the pleasure of being a good read.

Tent Guide 2000
Woodalls delivers a great book for anyone that is planning a tenting vacation. Each state has a section full of information beginning with a grid type map. You can look for different camping locations based on your exact destination within each grid block. There is also a handy quick-reference guide listing activity types and if these activities are on-site or nearby. Climate info, calendar of events, topography, as well as travel info sources are all included with phone numbers, addresses, and websites. Each camping area has a brief description and contact numbers for getting more info directly from the sites. The rather large section at the beginning of the book is divided by activities and where they are offered in each state. If your only interest is fishing, for example, you can go to that section and flip through some 30 pages of specific information. Bicycling, hiking, canoeing, and other varying adventures also have special sections. With all 50 states included, as well as Canada, I found this book to be a great resource.

Yoga-to-Go
What I purchased was the Yoga-To-Go mini kit, by the same author. I was more impressed with it than I thought I would be. The entire package is intersting and informative. The cards have poses that can easily be achieved by beginners, which was what I was looking for. The kit also comes with a blue yoga strap that is fairly durable. The cards are orange with the poses and their names in white on the fronts and an explanation of how to achieve it on the back. Overall I like this kit, the one bad thing I can think of is that the picture on the front of the card is not always explained clearly on the back, or isn't really that pose at all, only sort of in a vague way. So that gets confusing, but other than that I enjoyed this kit as a present to myself.

Great source for salon questions
This is a handy book to have to answer any questions about salon services, including tipping amounts. I refered to this book because I wasn't sure how to tip one of my technicians, and this book was really helpful.

This is a must for ESL teachers.
I tell other ESL teachers they HAVE TO get _Zero Prep_. Using this book has cut down my prep time drastically -- I no longer spend hours making up worksheets that can only be used once. The activities are the kind that get the students actively doing things and taking initiative. I appreciate the fact that all the activities have been tried in real life and found successful. There are a few (like the acting-out dictacomp) that I come back to over and over.

My only problem (and it IS mine) is that the book is geared more to large single-level classes than my little multi-level community center group. However, the majority of the activities are adaptable to my class.

This is a real find.

You've got to be kidding me...
As a lawyer who advises pre-law students, please let me implore you to take this book, like any one person's advice, with a grain of salt. There are some solid points in the book, but they are buried under quite a bit of less than stellar advice. I never saw a correlation between those who "seriously" prepared in advance of law school and actual law school success. The people who served on law review with me didn't try to learn the substantive law before taking the class. We used study aids and wrote outlines, but also always bought the case books. As another reviewer noted, you're going to need to read the cases when you're doing research in practice, so you'd better learn to read them on your own when you're in school. Besides, nothing pissed off a prof like catching someone using Glannons or Case Notes to respond to their questions.

I know that this review and the others like it won't stop most of you from buying the book, but do yourselves a favor and talk to actual law students and younger lawyers as well. The advice in this book isn't reflective of what happened in my law school or the law schools of friends I surveyed.

This book saved my life
I attend a top 15 law school, and after following the advice in this book the year before I went to law school I got a 3.7 my first year. Some of the other reviewers are right in saying that doing what the author says in the book is not enough to get you an A. This book is only the beginning. And so is reading the Aspen books. To succeed, you have to know the law, and learn what professors are really looking for. But anyone smart enough to get into law school and actually take time to prepare for law school should already realize this.

There truly is no one secret to getting A's in law school. But what this book does is tell what you should know before you go. It will help you get a head start on everyone else. This is a very valuable advantage, since the biggest enemies in law school are fear and confusion.

I do agree with the other reviewers though. This book only sumarizes the minimum that you need to know to have a chance in law school. The rest is up to you.

The ABA sucks
Good book. I don't aree with the Leews thing. The program is harder to figure out than a casebook. The study aid rec's are right on, and the ABA analysis is all true. The Delaney references are worth gold.

A+ Exam Cram: Pass the New A+ Certification Exam Expected to Go Live July 1998

A+ Exam Cram provides an excellent way for certification candidates to study for both A+ exams. This book details all of the relevant aspects of IBM-compatible PC hardware, plus the tested details of MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, and Windows 95. With a careful explanation of all terms, concepts, and techniques that A+ technicians need to understand, Exam Cram: A+ lends itself to both leisurely study and quick review.

This book does have one shortcoming: it is almost devoid of illustrations--unusual in a book largely about manipulating the physical things that make up a computer. Of the handful of photographs and line drawings that are included, many are blurry or otherwise difficult to interpret.

Exam Cram: A+ deserves kudos for the practice questions that appear at the end of each of its chapters. The answers (which really ought to be separated from the questions to make it harder to accidentally cheat) include brief discussions that substantiate why the answer is correct. This approach integrates exam preparation with the accumulation of reasoned knowledge that will be valuable after the test. The authors use a similar approach (with separate answers) for a full practice test. --David Wall

This book has been replaced - The Author
The 2nd Edition Exam Cram has been surplanted by "A+ Exam Cram 2," a thoroughly revised and updated version of the book. The new book takes advantage of our new partnership with Que Publishing, and includes an interactive CD-ROM with, not only practice tests, but the entire book in electonic format. --Craig Landes, Author (11/02)

Not bad if you have experience with this material
I've been working as a computer technician for about a decade now, so this is the only book I bought to help me brush up on the A+-related topics. While I passed both exams with no problems, I was a little disappointed with the fact that modem strings and CPU socket types were not covered in A+ Exam Cram, although they appeared a number of times on the core exam.

Most of the explanations are clear and concise and address the major issues. I found that having the answers immediately after each end-of-chapter question was helpful, as long as I remembered to cover up the answer before looking at the question. (While this method is far from perfect, I think it's better than having to look up the answers in the back of the book, and much better than including the answers on an accompanying CD, as some Coriolis books unfortunately do.) A few chapters are introduced with a chronological history of the topic, which can often benefit novice readers. While the authors state that this information is not on the exam, much of it seems superfluous for an "Exam Cram" book, and is probably better suited for an appendix. Jones and Landes also use some very strange non-technical analogies that are generally more confusing than helpful.

Unfortunately, the practice exam is hard to take seriously: a few of the questions are ambiguous, others contradict the information in the preceding chapters. There are a couple of other errors in the book (mostly numerical), but it otherwise reads well. If you think you know most of the material before studying for A+ and just want to focus on the topics covered, this should be the only book you'll need.

One of two books needed to pass the A+ Certification
Unlike most people who take the A+ Certification, we were both advanced computer users without much experience with DOS, Windows 3.x and Troubleshooting. When we both got laid off (in the same week from different companies) we decided that we needed to get some education in a field that may be a little more stable. We purchased almost every book on the market regarding A+ Certification and read each one of them (some were absolutely useless). We found that the A+ Exam Cram gave a great overview of many topics covered on the exam and some good sample questions. The other book was Michael Myers A+ Certification Exam Guide.

Using these two books together we were both able to pass the exams (and did quite well) and both of us feel that we have a very solid understanding of the fundamentals of DOS, Windows 3.X, Windows 65 and NT. We are very pleased that these two books are on the market and hope they are used by anyone who wants to pass the A+ exam on the first try. The Exam Cram book does not include all of the information covered in both exams so we recommend you purchase at least one other book, preferably the Michael Myers book, and you will have your bases covered. No, we are not getting any money for this, we just did lots of research and many, many, many hours studying and do not want anyone else to waste their time!

A Long Way to Go for A Date

It deserves negative stars....
This book took me all day to read. As I turned each page I became more and more disgusted with his constant feeding of his sex drive and his lack of consideration for her family traditions. He got her into bed before marriage after promising not to, disregarded her parents rules of not laying together in their house, ditched the chaperon which is also a no-no and that is just to name a few. He seemed only concered with himself and what he wanted. She was always made to apologize after their arguments regardless or whether or not she was at fault. Sure she was spoiled, but maybe she learned it from watching him. I am glad she went crazy in the end. He deserved it. What a horrible book about a man fulfilling his wet dream.

Not a book to get riled over ladies
Ok, so the guy is a pig. He was doing things for the wrong reasons, and paid for it.

If you can get over the pig factor, it is a good book. It even has a moral to the story. I personally found his honesty refreshing.

I think that one of the reviews here that slamms the book - well, was written by someone who never read the book. Talking about not being happy with American women, etc. The guy is from up north, not America. If you had read the book, it couldn't have been missed.

Any woman that takes this book as a personal insult should take a breath, look at it a little differently.

If you are man looking for a Philippino bride - this is a must read - but don't expect a happy ending.

True story of Filipina Courtship by a NothAmerican gentleman
Henry's book describes in great detail his own relationship with a Filipina named Cecilia on the island of Mindanao. Having met her through a Canadian pen-pal club, simular to my FilipinaCupid site, Henry embarked upon a journey which many of you may soon experience yourself.

A journey that starts with a few letters exchanged across the Pacific, which in turn leads to a flight to the Philippines to meet a pen-pal and her family, and then blossoms into love & marriage. He also reveals much intimate moments from overcoming Filipina shyness, to dealing with Filipino fathers & family members, to first intimacy, to their misunderstandings, exciting marriage, and even reveals details of what is sometimes a challenging "settling in" period of adjustment when wife is finally in his country. Henry does much wrong in his courtship and these are important lessons to know. The book makes you aware of possible hidden agendas and how a woman can be manipulated by family. Also, you see how laws and emotional problems can undermine to be efforts.

[...] Before you go to ANY Asian country seeking romance you should read this valuable, unique, and well written book.

Blessings on "your" search for true love. Jean

Go/No Go: A Hands-On Guide to Successful Real Estate Development

Something doesn't seem quite right...
I was extremely excited about ordering this book. I saw the 5-star reviews and thought this would be a great book to add to my real estate development collection. I was sadly mistaken and now believe that the author and his friends are behind the 5-star ratings.

This book contains a whole lot of checklists and bullet points, but lacks any clear explanations or descriptions. This seems like a half-hearted effort in which the author simply pieced together a number of his own forms and checklists. Don't get me wrong some forms are useful (hence the one star), but not useful enough to warrant the price. I quickly returned the book and recommend others to look elsewhere for real estate development info.

DEFINITELY NO GO!!!!!
While it appears that Mr. Noe has experience in real estate, this "book" will be of little or no assistance to anyone developing real estate. I put "book" in quotes because rather than sentences and paragraphs it is comprised of lists of items related to real estate development. However there is no instruction, interpretation, or guidance related to these items, merely list after list. I have been a Realtor for 20 years and help others develop property and develop for myself. This book is completely useless for both the novice and experienced developer. The only consolation is that it can be completed in about 15 minutes. I urge you to save your money, even though the title promises a clear and decisive path to real estate development, the text doesn't deliver anything more than lists of loosely related real estate terms.

Don't Start A Development Project Until You Read This Book
I found the book "GO/NO GO" to be valuable source of real estate development reference information. It's concise and to the point format made the information easy to comprehend and retain. The book has enhanced my ability to communicate complex development concepts to others. - It's a great book!
