Ba Ba Sheep Wouldn't Go to Sleep

Parents can relate!
As a parent of a toddler, I was able to relate to this book about a little sheep who decided to stay up late and play. He was so tired the next day he couldn't even chew his food! Sometimes we ask our daughter, now 4, if she is too tired to chew -- and she grins. We have yet to find a copy of our own at a reasonable price, so we continue to check it out from our local library branch!

Barney & Bj Go to the Police Station (Barney "Go to)

An Introduction to Police and their Jobs
Barney lovers will appreciate this very reasonably priced, factual book about the work our police do. Photographs that include Barney and BJ enhance the informative text. As a teacher of young children I very much appreciated the warning for children to tell a grown-up if they ever see a gun and that they are not toys. I recommend this book for parents who want to give a positive outlook about police to their children!

Fun with Animals!
My son recently got this book as a gift and he has a good time with it. We like it because he recognizes many of the animals and has learned many new ones. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to introduce animals to their kids or is planning a trip to the zoo.

Brion Gysin: Here To Go

Review of Here To Go
A great piece to have, I recommend it to anyone interested in Brion Gysin, as well as for any serious reader of W.S. Burroughs. The conversations are comprehensive, Terry Wilson is obviously not just some rube who happened to speak with Gysin. It covers philosophy, art, life, music, permutations, cut-ups, religion, nearly everything across the board, with some excellent stories by Mr. Gysin appearing throughout. It's a shame that so little information about this man is readily available. Undoubtedly one of the most important artists/people of the 20th century. Now all we need is for The Third Mind to be reissued, along with everything else. (Anyone heard of a guy named "Flash Allen"? Supposedly there is a film called "Brion Gysin" made by him, but there seems to be no information about this anywhere.)

a.n.

(the book also has hard to find excerpts by Mr. Gysin and Mr. Burroughs from no longer extant writings as well as photographs)
(I gave it 4 stars because some of the calligraphy is noticeably pixelated, which gave it an amateurish kind of look, though the photographs do not have the same problem)

When she takes another one D.W. warns her not to take another one or she'll pinch her and she takes her block back. Death to Go/an Inspector Bill Slider Mystery
Published in Hardcover by Scribner (February, 1994)
Author: Cynthia Harrod-Eagles
Amazon base price: $20.00
Average review score:

A finger is all they have to go on
Finding a finger in a packet of chips leads Shepherd's Bush Inspector, Bill Slider, and his side Kick Atherton into the strangest of crimes - what is the significance of the Chinese angle? where do computers fit into it all? and why are all the people they try to interview about the crime suddenly dying? - they still don't even know the identity of the finger - or where the rest of the body is.

This is the third novel in Cynthia Harrod-Eagles series of Bill Slider mysteries and the story I thought was one of her best - although I found the ending a bit of a cop out - it was another unsatisfying end where - while the ending is known I found there to be no real resolution. Each time Slider and Atherton manage to peel back another layer in the crime it seems to take them deeper into confusion. Nothing seems to make sense and they still don't know who the finger belongs too.

Meanwhile things aren't too good for Slider- his home life is falling apart, his lover is not happy and is rejecting him and at work he has to deal with 'Mad Ivan" Barrington whose petty dictates are causing great disatisfaction at the station.

This novel was published in Britain as 'Necrochip' so the title might confuse those who think it is a new novel in the Bill Slider series. This is definitely a very readable mystery and well worth picking up and giving a try. She isn't as good at writing secondary characters, but her crime investigation is gripping stuff.

Do Not Go Naked Into Your Next Presentation : Nifty Little Nuggets to Quiet the Nerves and Please the Crowd
Published in Paperback by Andrews McMeel Publishing (01 April, 1997)
Author: Ron Hoff
Amazon base price: $6.95
This is Ron Hoff's third book on the trials and tricks of public speaking, and if you've ever faced the prospect of speaking in public with trepidation, this amusing book, filled with anecdotes and pointers, will help you get through it with flying colors! After reading this book and recalling a recent benefit dinner I was obliged to attend, I wished a lot more public speakers had already read it ...
Average review score:

Shed Your Inhibitions...and STILL Be Decent
Ron Hoff's "Do Not Go Naked Into Your Next Presentation" is pocket-sized inspiration and common sense when it comes to facing an audience and presenting a speech. It's an easy read--not intimidating in the least--and will set the tone. many times through humor to help make a good speech even better. I use it in my public speaking courses at a local university, and the students get alot out of this little book. Hoff's accounts are a "must have" if you want to improve public speaking skills. In just a few words, you are empowered with a "can do" attitude--and will reap the rewards of being a more effective communicator.

Don't Leave an Elephant to Go & Chase a Bird
Published in Hardcover by Marcel Dekker (March, 1996)
Authors: Ann Grifalconi and James R. Berry
Amazon base price: $15.00
Average review score:

Rich Heritage
Don't Leave an Elephant to Go and Chase a Bird is a wonderfully crafted kind-hearted tale. The author quickly moves you through the adventures of Anancy the spiderman. Anancy goes from one person to the next exchanging items. His trip and the transition and exchange from one person to the next is so rhythmical, that I can almost hear drums and music as Anancy travels along. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover with such a light story and illustrations, which are influenced by traditional African art themes. Although crafted for a child, this story, a Ghanaian folk tale has a rich heritage.

Faux Bubba!: : Bill and Hillary Go to Washington
Published in Paperback by Crown (27 April, 1993)
Author: Doug Marlette
Amazon base price: $10.00
Average review score:

Editorial and "Kudzu" Comic Strips
This book is a combination of Doug Marlette's editorial comic strips and his political "Kudzu" comic strips covering the 1992 presidential election and Clinton's win. In addition, Doug has done several new strips especially for this book. There are also a few pages of text where Doug writes about Faux Bubba's and his thoughts/accounts of the '92 election (including his meeting with Bill Clinton). While it's obvious that Doug voted for Clinton and is left-of-center in his political views, the strips are mostly funny and mostly told from a southerner's prospective.

One of the best books with practical illustrations..........
I read this book sometime back...and I haven't yet found a copy of this marvellous book. Infact a couple of years back, Billy Graham Evangelistic Association gave a free copy of this book to all its subscribers to Decision magazine. Lynn Anderson takes us the through the life of King David and practically he helps us to explores the trials, predicaments and fallacies of our lives....together with studying King David's life. The complete study when you take it helps you to find the heart to go on in this troublesome world - whatwith all the temptations of flesh and the idiosyncrasies of our own making. A wonderful book for any believer aspiring to get practical insights into David's life.
