Practical and genuine Christianity in the marketplace
This book has helped me in living out my faith in the workplace. Ross West has the hard won experience and spiritual depth needed to really be a guide to many of us in this challenging area. He addresses many areas such as responding to unethical situations and seeing spiritual value in our work/in others. He establishes a useful theology of why we work and what our work means and then proceeds to show many practical examples of how that theology can be applied in everyday work-a-day life. One of my favorite parts of the book is the simple but profound observation that we can and should view our work, no matter what it is, as ultimately helping another person somewhere. It's hard to think of a job where this is not the case and even though my technology job is somewhat removed from people directly, it does help them elsewhere. The book caused me to reflect on my work in constructive ways after years of confusion on this topic. I have already recommended the book to some close Christian friends who have the same challenges. It is not easy to find books that are as theologically sound and practical as this one. I am starting to read William E. Diehl who has also written in this area.

Good survey.
Queen Victoria's soldiers fought for Queen and Country all over the world, bringing the Pax Victoriana to Afganis, Maoris, and Boers alike. Badly treated and regarded as little more than tramps by the public they served, they nevertheless fought and died for their country against savage opponents in some of the most inhospitable regions on earth, to their lasting glory.
Their story is well told here, not only the campaign histories but also the soldiers' life; recruitment, food, pay, uniforms, weapons, and many other details to fill in the picture of the Victorian soldier.
Generously illustrated, with maps, tactical diagrams, campaign chronology, useful appendices, reading list, and well-designed index, this is a fine introduction to a most interesting era.

Unleashes the power of Leadership
I've read alot of books about management and leadership and this one fits right in there at the top. It's a complete picture for problem solving, team building, and success maintenance. It wowed me and others who have read it with just about everything we needed for constructing and managing a powerful team. But there is a whole lot more.

I liked the textual algorithm that helped us build a key to success formula that will help us stay on track. Our unit is now going to go places with a higher expectancy of success. This book really shows how motivation works. I don't think we are having as much problem with getting the work done now that we understand the motivation process. What a help!

There are so many other positive things about this book that I can't mention them all. It is a must read!

Teaching its readers how one-year-old children are
Go! Go! Maria! is the second picture book in the outstanding "Growing Up Stories" picture book series written by Robie H. Harris and illustrated by Michael Emberley. Go! Go! Maria! is a warm and educational story about what one-year-old children are like. Following the adventures of a young girl living the second year of her life, it has many asides teaching its readers how one-year-old children are, to the slow process of learning to walk, to thumb-sucking, potty training, and more. Go! Go! Maria! is recommended for young readers as a thoroughly enjoyable and informative read which highlighted throughout with playful full-color illustrations. Also very strongly recommended for school and community library collections is the first volume in the "Growing Up Stories" series: Hello Benny! What It's Like To Be A Baby...

The encyclopedia of knowledge about grief--a gold standard!
This is an excellent book for ministers, counselors, or others that are helping people through the grieving process. It is also an excellent book for the person who is mourning (if they can concentrate enough to read a detailed text). I found this book to be a real life saver when I was grieving the loss of my mother. Also, it has been immeasurably helpful in my work with grieving people. This text covers a wide variety of losses and does an excellent job of explaining grief in general.

If you can only have ONE BOOK ON GRIEF--this is the one to have. My copy is irreplacable.

Frank and Loving Handbook for Helping Yourself and Others
A worthwhile read, especially for those who are looking to help themselves before helping others - (remember remove a plank from your eye before you remove one from your brother's eye?). Here you will find further meditations on this theme, particularly candid on sex, family and relationships.

Enjoy the walk!
Really pleasant read about the author's experience and subsequent advice for day hikers and backpackers ( I appreciated his distinguishing the two). I'm just starting out hiking again after 20 years away from it, and he covers the fundamentals and inspires with his stories. Just what I was looking for; a quick read and some pointers to some great hikes across the United States.

From a Psychotherapist's Point of View
I recently discovered this gem. Many people don't know what questions to ask when seeking a therapist; they often aren't sure of their rights, nor how to detect unscrupulous behavior. (Unfortunately, human nature affects this profession too, and there are occasional "bad eggs" hanging out their shingles.) This guide provides concise, clear information on the types of provider qualifications and available therapies.

The book begins by defining what psychotherapy is and how to determine if one needs therapy. The author explores some of the myths about what therapy does and the societal pressures against asking for help. The next chapter provides descriptions of the various professionals -- psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors -- and the numerous national and local organizations which provide listings. The author then moves on to describe the rules of therapy: what to expect in terms of confidentiality, social interaction, time, planning treatment, and sex (a therapist should never have sex with client (or former client), and you should report any therapist who attempts to). The impact and findings of research are briefly explored. Then the author devotes a chapter each to several major theories by which counselors practice: psychoanalysis & psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, group, couples, and family therapy; he explains the philosophical underpinnings of the orientation and some of the techniques therapists use. He then discusses biological psychiatry and the use of medication, and provides suggestions for making the decision. The last few chapters cover alternative kinds of therapy, advice on how to set goals and stay on track, paying for therapy and using insurance, and bringing therapy to a close. An appendix provides a brief guide to diagnosis (such as what symptoms describe anxiety disorder, depression, and addictions) as well as an extensive list of references and website resources.

The author, Carl Sherman, is a freelance writer who has written about mental health issues for almost twenty years. His work has been published in national publications, such as Psychology Today, Family Circle, Us, GQ, and Investor's Business Daily. He writes a column and contributes articles to Clinical Psychiatry News. Mr. Sherman has organized his accumulated knowledge and experience in a highly readable manner, making it an accessible and friendly guide to counseling. This book is a necessary resource for clients and therapists alike.

RAISE MILLIONS/IPO-THIS BOOK MUST ALWAYS BE IN YOUR MIND!!!
This book should be on the desk of every CEO, CFO and Entrepreneur in the country. It seems that everyone wants to take their company public but almost no one knows how until now. Thanks to the author/experts, Robert Paul Turner and his assistant Megan Hughes, because they arm you with everything you need to realize your dreams of enormous success by raising millions of dollars and taking your company public. The reading is easy to read, concise and to the point. They clearly explain all the associated risks along with the benefits and even help you to determine whether or not your company is suited for a IPO.

I really like the section that explains the various federal and state securities laws that is mandatory for everyone to know when going public. You just can't put a price tag on this valuable information to ensure all SEC regulations are met properly.

If you want to raise Millions and take your company Public, the pages of this book MUST always be in your mind!
