I am so glad I found this book!
After having decided to remove my 2 1/2 month old son from life support, this was the ONLY book I could find which dealt with our situation. Dr. Davis deals with this topic with such insight and sensitivity I felt like she must have been there with us every step of the way. Of all of the books which I was given on dealing with life after the death of a baby, this was the one which truly gave me comfort and helped me to find peace with the decisions we made about our son's care.

Must-read for NICU parents with life decisions to make.
This book wraps it's arms around you and hugs you oh so tight.

Dr. Davis changed my life with her book. In 1993, my husband and I were faced with the toughest decision of our lives -- to continue the fight for our son's life or not. Dr. Davis helped me to realize that no matter what decision we made at that point, we would question it -- That there were no easy choices to make. The line from the book that has stuck with me all these years is, "Were we prolonging life....or prolonging death in our attempts to keep our son here on this earth?"

Reading this book will help any parent, with a similar decision to make, come to terms with their decision. Anytime I begin to question our decision from years ago, I just reread Deborah's book, and I confirm that our decision was the most unselfish thing we've ever done in our lives.

May it bring peace to your souls, as well.

Morgan and Moffat, the Barker twins, are excited for school to start. Once there, Moffie sets out to earn as many gold stars as possible, while the more laid-back Morgie quietly goes about making firm friends with a few classmates. But after a few days, Moffie is given a gentle lecture from the teacher, who asks her to give other kids a chance to answer questions. Suddenly she realizes she's been so busy collecting stars, she hasn't made any friends yet. "I'll get gold stars and Morgie can get friends," she thinks. But then Morgie's time in the sun (or stars) finally arrives, when the teacher asks a question he can most definitely answer. By the end of the first week, both Morgie and Moffie have friends and stars--and they are in complete agreement about one thing: "We LOVE school!"

Tomie de Paola modeled Morgie and Moffie after two of his four charismatic Welsh terriers. De Paola, the Newbery Honor author/illustrator of 26 Fairmount Avenue and many other well-loved children's books, captures the drama and dilemmas of school and illustrates the best way to find a balance between friendships and studies. His understated, humorous text is accompanied by highly appealing illustrations of the young pups in acrylic on handmade watercolor paper. Here is the perfect first-day-of-school book for the little Morgies and Moffies in every classroom. (Ages 4 to 7) --Emilie Coulter

Another Winner from Tomie dePaola
Though twins, Morgan and Moffat Barker couldn't be more different. Moffie, the oldest by ten minutes is an over achiever with a real Type A personality, bossy, critical and competitive. Her brother, Morgie, is a laid back, go with the flow kind of guy who likes everyone. So when they start school, it isn't surprising that Moffie racks up the gold stars, shouting answers and always having to be the best, while Morgie, eases into the class. He's not getting any gold stars, but he's making lots of new friends. As the first week progresses, their teacher has a quiet little talk with Moffie, asking her not to shout out all the answers, wait her turn and give others a chance. "Now run along and play with your friends." And that's when it hits Moffie. She's been so busy being the best student, she hasn't made any friends and goes off to find her brother. But, with a little encouragement from each other, the twins soon learn it's possible to have gold stars and friends, too..... Tomie dePaola has done it again, written a simple, charming story with a gentle message that won't be lost on young students. His expressive, humorous and familiar artwork complements the text beautifully and children will delight in watching this lovable pair work their way through school shopping and their first week as new students. Perfect for early readers or as a family read aloud story, Meet the Barkers is hopefully the start of another terrific dePaola series and a picture book your kids will want to read again and again.

It's School Time
As always, Tomie DePaola does it very well in this book. It is just in time for school and holds the young reader's interest in his own "fascinating way". Our granddaughter, 8 years old loves reading and reading all of DePaola'a books. This one is very special to her - she loves school and loves to read about adventures at school.

Best Book on low carb eating
I love this book.

This low carb eating plan was written by a doctor from the UK (Scotland), and in my opinion, it's the best one out there.

I live in the United States and came across a blurb about this book on the internet, and knew IMMEDIATELY this was the eating plan for me.

Unlike Atkins, you are allowed generous (unlimited) amounts of low-starch vegetables.

You are allowed all the protein and good fats you want. The book goes into great detail about this, written in a simple, non-pretentious, easy-to-understand manner by a well respected MD.

I liked this book so much, I ordered the cookbook through amazon.com uk website! It's great! Because I am an Amercian, it's great fun researching the different foods available in the UK, and what their American counterparts might be! This book reinforces his first book.

I will also order from amazon.com UK, his new book based on eating out and convenience foods and lowcarbing. I wish amazon.com here in the States would stock that book, because I am spending a fortune on overseas mail!

Overall, Dr. Clark's book(s) are an educational enjoyable, read, making lowcarbing fun in the process. I wish they'd catch on in the States!!

A Common Sense approach to Low Carbing
I found this book and plan much easier to get in to than Dr Atkins. As a Brit, I like the no nonsense, no bragging approach to this diet. You don't have to go through all the pains, headeaches and strict regime of Atkins to still get great results! An excellent book .Also his carb counting book is great, as well as his cookbook.

Pathways to Creativity: How to Go Beyond Copying
Published in Paperback by Graphics Management Press (15 November, 2001)
Author: Helene Jukoff
Amazon base price: $23.95

Every painters work book
Finally a book that covers so many different painting styles and ideas. This should give every painter a chance to experiment in whatever medium they should choose. It is really good to see works by so many aspiring artists. Helene is a true teacher!

An Inspiration to Experiment
For the amateur painter, it takes courage to break out of the habit of "copying". I know. I fit into that category. But what a joy to find Helene Jukoff's PATHWAYS TO CREATIVITY. On the one level, it's a "how to" book. She offers plenty of specific approaches which enable people like me to branch out. Instead of boringly reproducing that favorite photograph, she encourages me to transform it into a real painting.

In addition to her teaching, the very works used as examples, most of them the author's own, are inspirations. What variety! This book whets my appetite to improve (especially my composition) and to experiment.

Learning to write is fun!
This book takes the process of learning to write and makes it fun for students. The idea of placing learning to write within the framework of a sports metaphor works for this book aimed at middle schoolers. Looking back on my own experience with learning how to write, I really wish these lessons had been around; my teachers and classmates would have applauded.

Andrew Larson, Indiana Communications Major

Writing Strategies That Engage Students!
Patricia Tabb and Nancy Delano Moore show that they have the "write stuff" in their new book, Ready-to-Go Writing Lessons That Teach Key Strategies. Loved it
This book should be considered required reading for any parents sending kids off to college. Funny and poignant, it articulately deals with the difficulty of reconciling the pain of loss with the pride of sending your child off into the world. The love that Ms. Jones has for her children shines through like a beacon, reassuring us that even though giving your kids up to the growing pains of burgeoning adulthood feels almost impossible, wiht patience and communication relationships can become even stronger. I highly recommend it for parents--or kids--who want to understand each other a little better.

This book helped me feel normal
After leaving my 18 year old daughter at a college 9 hours away from home this fall, I didn't anticipate how hard it would be. I was excited for her to have this experience in a great college town. I was unprepared for how I would feel like I had lost a body part, how I had to keep reminding myself that she didn't die, she's just away at college. This book verbalized many of my exact feelings about this experience. It was very helpful to me and made me feel better. The daughter in the book reminded me of my own vegetarian, jewelry wearing, intelligent, independent daughter. I recommend this book to other parents going through this life passage.

The Shepherd's Song: Finding the Heart to Go on
Published in Hardcover by Howard Publishing (May, 1996)
Author: Lynn Anderson
Amazon base price: $14.99
Used price: $6.34
Average review score:

Shepherd then and now
The Shepherd's Song is written in an engaging style making it easy to read. It brings scenes and events from David's life alive and then shows how the same struggles are ours today. This book takes you beyond seeing David as a dirty, shepherd boy watching sheep and writing songs to the man his own mighty men feared. The Shepherd's Song reviews David's failings and his restoration by God's grace when David turned in repentance and sought the Lord's will. In reference to David's adulterous affair, the author states we are a very deceptive people--how often does the phone wake you and you tell the other person "no you didn't wake me."

This is a good book for independent reading. At the back of the book discussion questions are divided by chapter, so Sunday School classes or small groups could use it as a study.

For those who want to develop a Godlike heart.
I read this book nearly two years ago and based a Sunday School adult class on the practical lessons each chapter contains. One of the most popular classes at our Church. The reader comes to understand how a man who sinned so grievously, time after time could be reffered to by God himself as "a man after my own heart". By discovering how God could possibly see David as a man after God's own heart, the reader comes to understand that he too can have a God like heart even though he makes mistakes.

Talent Flow: A Strategic Approach to Keeping Good Employees, Helping Them Grow, and Letting Them Go

Real good follow-up book.
I got this book because I had read these same authors first book, High-Impact Hiring (by Rosse and Levin). Talent Flow to me is the follow-up to High-Impact Hiring. The first book is about how to hire someone for your business in a practical way based on performance, and Talent Flow is about what to do after you've made the hire: How to keep employees, keep them satisfied, and over the long run decide if you want to keep them and what to do about it. I liked both books.

This book really helped my business
Bought this book for my business, because of some problems we were having with dissatisfaction. I didn't think we had any retention issues, though. This book gave me much more than I bargained for. Instead of just having scattered tips on how to retain people or how to deal with dissatisfaction in your organization, these authors give you a complete framework that links workplace satisfaction and dissatisfaction with productive and counter-productive work performance and with employee retention. That's what they call "talent flow." When you have dissatisfaction at work, some of your good employees turn into bad ones, and other good ones leave. If they're leaving faster than your poorer performers, your organization is going to fill up with the kind of workers you don't want. The book helped us to find ways to keep our best employees more satisfied so that they kept performing well and stayed longer. It also helped us identify the others, and help them either move up or move them out. One of the best things about the book was the way the concepts and the practical advice were tied together. The authors write about research they did on how dissatisfaction affects work performance, and they also have clearly worked with a lot of businesses, because they are talking about real-world problems and real-world solutions. Good practical tools, too. Great book! Helped my business.

worth it for the cute Hanson-Roberts deck alone!
this is a terrific set to get someone as a gift - or for yourself! I love the smaller sized Hanson-Roberts deck - the original deck is smaller than average to begin with, but the one included here is adorable and pocket sized, yet still big enough to use for readings. the book is of course very basic, little more than a "LWB" (the little white book included in tarot decks) but worthwhile for a memory jog, and good for beginners. I would certainly get another book to go with the set if you are learning, I recommend Mary Greer's Tarot for Your Self.

I think this is a very good value for the price.

perfect for beginners and travel
I am fairly new to tarot cards and have several full size decks and a couple of books. I just bought this set because I am going on a trip and thought this would be perfect to take along. I like the cards, they are small, but not too small and the little guide book is perfect for beginners. It gives you just enough information, but leaves plenty of room for your own interpretations. A great value and I would recommend it highly.
