An Essential Tool
I have used this resource for several years and have shared with my colleagues. I always tell them they can use any activity in their class except the lock book--that's my special treat. The kids always enjoy taking out scissors and rulers and are always happily surprised by the result. I've used many of these ideas and recommend this book to any teacher that likes hands-on approaches.

Wonderful Ideas
Wow! I am a strong believer in hands-on activities, and this book is filled with great ideas for using manipulatives in the classroom. If I give my students a sheet of paper and ask them to write a story, I am met by a chorus of "Awwwww!" But if I give them paper and ask them to make an accordion book or a circle book or a video camera, they often ask, "Can we have more paper?" This book includes many tried-and-true manipulatives as well as unique ones which I'd never encountered before. It also offers some terrific suggestions for displaying them in your classroom.

Excellent Reference
I am a professional VB developer who is making the leap to web programming. This book offered straight forward information. My web pages included VBScript and ActiveX controls within an hour!

Good intro on how to use Active X controls in you web pages
The book doesn't teach you how to write Active X controls, but it does teach you how to use them and where to find existing controls on the web. Also contains brief introduction to VBScript and brief HTML reference. CD-ROM contains sample scripts which use the controls references in the book, plus free shareware versions of HomeSite. I bought this book yesterday at another bookstore and paid full price. My only regret is I didn't buy it at Amazon.

A recommendation from an algebra teacher!
For the last three or four years, I have recommended this book to my students' parents. I teach algebra (grade 8) and pre-algebra (grades 7 and 8) and have found that his book is written in a non-threatening, easy to understand manner. It is a perfectly wonderful reference book. Math is scary enough...this book demystifies algebra. Love it!

Algebra to Go
This is the best reference handbook that parents and teachers will fine it useful for students. Algebra to Go, "demystifies algebra for students in 8 grades and up by explaining key and often complex math topics in a way that's clear, friendly, and understandable". It is also a great refresher for parents who may have forgotten a thing or two about Algebra..

Bedside Prayers: Prayers & Poems for When You Rise and Go to Sleep

Spiritual but NOT Religious
This anthology is filled with spiritually comforting & inspirational passages--BUT I appreciate that it does NOT have a Christian/Scripture bent. The passages are short paragraphs or poems (not long essays & stories like the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series) I work in the "helping professions" and find reading this a great way to stay centered & effective before working with difficult clients. I suspect folks in recovery would really enjoy this book. I bought this book for my 89 year old grandmother who is homebound and marked favorite passages to share with her. I am a real person, not a publisher trying to sell copies of this book.

Not For Bedtime Only
With its cozy quilt theme, Bedside Prayers is right at home on the bedside table--ready for reading, meditating and praying before sleep. Each contribution is short and accessible, with topics touching on silence, love, aging, darkness and light, blessings, simplicity and much more. Cotner's title may refer to our bedroom hours, but her collection contains thoughts readers can cherish throughout the day.

Practical, Simple and FUN!
As the former director children's church at my church, I heartily recommend this book. The lessons are straightforward and easily understood and the craft/visual aids are simple and won't have you running all over town to find the components. If you don't want to weigh yourself down with bulky curriculum every Sunday, give this a try. Great for family time too!

A great resource book for children's sermons
There are several things I like about this book. The every-day, easy to find objects used in the sermons are items that children in my church quickly identify. The stories are interesting to adults and children and I don't have to add much to them. There are also special occasion lessons, such as Father's Day and Super Bowl Sunday. The book includes both a scripture index and a topical index that I found very helpful.

The Complete Cancer Survival Guide: Everything You Must Know and Where to go For State-Of-The-Art Treatment of the 25 Most Common Forms of Cancer.

At age 51, Peter Teeley, former press secretary to George Bush, was given a 50-50 chance of surviving his stage III colon cancer. Like most newly diagnosed cancer patients, he knew little about the disease and less about possible treatments. He tenaciously sought out information and saved his own life. Now he and medical writer Philip Bashe spare others from having to start their own cancer treatment investigation from scratch.

"When faced with the most critical consumer decision of their lives, the majority of cancer patients accept without question the recommendation of the doctor who diagnosed the disease," write the authors. "Eighty-five percent of the time, that person is not an oncologist, a specialist in the detection and treatment of cancer." This leads to a substantial risk of substandard care, according to the National Cancer Policy Board.

The solution? Take charge, with the help of the comprehensive information here. Learn all you can about your disease, its staging and treatments (25 different cancers are covered here). Seek out clinical trials. Get an independent second opinion. Investigate cancer-treatment facilities. Learn about medications for pain and nausea. Learn how dietary changes, stress management, and support services can help you. Make your medical insurance work for you. There's an immense amount of practical, clearly written, well-organized, illustrated information in this book, and it's enhanced by anecdotes from Teeley's personal story. Everything you need is here: lists of top cancer centers and support groups (with phone numbers and Web sites), definitions of all terms, instructive charts and boxes, questions to ask, questions you're likely to be asked, and a ton of information about how you can help yourself.

Everything You Must Know and Where to Go for State-of-the-Art Treatment of the 25 Most Common Forms of Cancer declares The Complete Cancer Survival Guide's cover, and this 950-page book lives up to its claim. The foreword is by former president George Bush, whose daughter died of pediatric leukemia. --Joan Price

Current Comprehensive Helpful
This book was well worth the small investment. With detailed referencing to take your researches even further, clear descriptions and helpful diagrams, helpful questions to ask your doctor about your disease and its treatments, it is a wonderful book. Aids in finding treatment centers near you with the latest treatments. Discussions about emotional health and insurance are also useful. Information drawn from top specialists makes this an authoritative book. Covers the top 25 cancers. Essential information.

An excellent and comprehensive "first choice" guide.
I am a cancer patient and this is the book I have been looking for. Encyclopedic yet concise and to the point, Teeley's treatment of strategies, treatment options and the biology of cancer sets a high standard. Useful summary boxes are distributed throughout each chapter, allowing the reader to get a quick overview of such topics as "Medical Terms You're Likely to Hear" / "Surgical Procedures" / "Drug Therapies" and related topics.

I found chapter 6 (State of the Art: Your Treatment Options) and Chapter 9 (Don't Neglect Your Emotional Health) especially useful...but EACH chapter is stuffed with information vital to an understanding of how to cope with cancer in the year 2000. This book does not have a dated or stale feel; the medical information is current. Numerous Web site addresses are included to help you get information and support.

Weighing in at close to 1000 pages (for a relatively modest price), I'll guess that this book will quickly become the standard cancer reference for the next few years.

Death to Go

A well-Crafted British Procedural
I started three British Procedural series about the same time. Although they are all good, I like Ms. Harrod-Eagles series the best. She is a wonderful writer. Her plots and characterization are tight, and the story usually has many surprises. Bill Slider is a wonderful character. He's sensitive, a bit tentative (especially in his personal life), and a darn good detective. This was an interesting book because the mystery looked quite simple at the beginning, but the further that Bill dug into it, the more sinister it became. It took him all the way up to the top with his suspicions. With the help of his partner, he manages to discover the truth. I highly recommend this series.

Always Excellent
I can never put this author's books down until I've read the whole book (usually in one sitting). She always maintains a nice balance between humor and adversity and tops it all off with a wicked and logical plot. Harrod-Eagle is a wonderful mystery writer and I always look forward to reading her latest book. All of them (so far) have been excellent.

The Entrepreneurial Life: How to Go for It and Get It

Wish I Had it at 20!
"The entrepreneurial life" is really the best way to think about it and I wish I had found this book back when I was 20 (though it's never too late, of course). The earlier you can get that level of thinking going, the more you can do with it, which is why this book is an invaluable investment for anyone "aspiring" in business, at any stage! This one would make a very important gift idea, too, for the right persons; better than most of what they'll otherwise find in a "college education."

Absolutely GREAT chapters called "Fitting Entrepreneurs into the Right Businesses" and "Leverage, Multipliers, Cookie Cutters, Pyramids and Other Tools for the Entrepreneur." (That's a classic chapter title!)

One of best books on entrepreneurship
All of Silver's books are great, but this one is especially good. The other books describe how you can craft a competitive advantage, what he calls "quantum companies." This book describes what is required to become an entrepreneur.

This book is unique in its insight into the life and background of an entrepreneur. In addition it provides a very clear description of the start up of a new company.

A. David Silver is a venture capitalist and has a long experience with entrepreneurs.

Unfortunately this is a 1980's book and it may be difficult to find. After just finding this book I wished I had read it earlier, perhaps with another of his great books on competitive advantage.

This book is one of those that should be rated an 8 on a scale of 1 to 5. If you're an entrepreneur, or want to be, you definitely owe it to yourself (and your spouse) to get this book. You may be surprised.

Great book for the non-lawyer
I just finished reading "Every Woman Should Go to Law School or Read This Book," by Margaret Basch, J.D. When I first started flipping through it, I thought it might be boring, dry do-it-yourself legal advice. It wasn't.

While "Every Woman..." teemed with advice on legal research, finding a lawyer, some do-it-yourself tips and getting the government to do your legal work for free, it also carried messages of girl power. Basch encourages women to become powerful in their jobs by reacting "like a man." Men don't worry about hurting someone's feelings if they get promoted; they worry about what tie to wear, she says. Every woman should also know how to negotiate effectively, whether it's for a raise or a new car, and write effective complaint and appreciation letters. If that isn't enough, Basch finally solves the mystery of networking for women. (Hint: it's not in those "networking lunches.")

As a total law layperson, I'm going to recommend the book because it's easy to read, very informative and well worth the $.... It might be too basic for those who actually went to law school, but for me, it inspired me. I've even used some of the tactics to get a refund already!

Every Woman Should Go To Law School or Buy This Book
Excellent, enjoyable book filled information for the independent or not-so-independent woman. Legal matters are not above your head, when you use this little book as a guide. Ms. Basch must actually be one of an endangered species...a smart, sympathetic, humorous lawyer. I read it, enjoyed it, and recommend it.

A Very Comprehensive Book about Import / Export
This one of the most comprehensive books about import / export, but it comes only in a pocket book size. It covers from A-to-Z of the import / export procedures, including other related issues like Financing, Distribution and U.S. Customs requirments. It also details role & responsibilities of each party involved. This book focuses primarily on the U.S., but it is also good for importer / exporter in other countries. Highly recommended. It is not only excellent for students or new comers in the import / export areana, but it is also a good desk reference guide.

A good, easy to read introduction. Many helpful hints
This book serves a good, solid introduction to exporting and importing. Any small business or manager planning to "go global" will find useful guidelines, hints, addresses and also proven strategies in this book. It is an easy to read, easy to implement guidbook that will help you use the author's expertise & experience to avoid common mistakes. I highly recommend it for anyone planning to export/import. It is significantly better than other general introduction books and complements more specialized exporting books rather nicely.
