Don't Give Up the Ship: Finding My Father While Lost at Sea
Mr Steinberg wrote an interesting little true tale. I especially enjoyed two sections of the book. The first section being the look into his father's past. It was well placed in the middle of the book. Until that time the only view given was of the present. I enjoy seeing how a person changes from a brave, young man to a fear-driven, elderly man. The other part I enjoyed was the dialogue between father and son. It is interested to see how they relate to each other. Some of the book is a bit slow. I found the descriptions about the boat alittle too detailed. I know there will be people who absolutely love boats and they will disagree with me. Overall story is interesting and well written.

A good read for good readers
Neil Steinberg's "Don't Give Up the Ship" is a good read, but not an easy one. If you are looking for a book which revels in syrupy emotionalism and demands little from the reader, then this is not the book. But, if you want an open and honest accounting of of an emotional journey, then this is your book. As usual for Steinberg, the book uses clear language to make its points. This isn't one of those books where you aren't sure what the author was trying to say. What I valued in the book was how Steinberg reflected on his relationship with his Dad and came away knowing more not just about himself, but also about life in general. The story about Steinberg and his father retracing his Dad's journey to Europe on a ship is far more than a travelogue. It's a journey into better understanding the human condition. Well worth reading!

The Money-Whipped Steer-Job Three-Jack Give-Up Artist

Filth in the Fast Lane
Sorry, I couldn't make it past page 100. Full of vulgar back and forth conversation, supplemented by some "insider" tour lingo? which does anything but make one laugh.

This is not representative of the good golf fiction that's out there. Sure there is a market for this stuff. Some of us opt out. Jenkins sure will be off my author to read list.

If this represents reality of big-time tour golf, shame on the whole lot. Society is beginning to tire of heroes that are anything but.

Double bogey
I started the book with great expectations and it continued to disappoint. I never got the point - mildly humurous but not really very interesting at all. After reading "A Good Walk Spoiled" and "My Usual Game" I was probably looking for more than Jenkins could deliver with this wandering tale of a year on the tour. His history of the golf architects and courses was the most interesting part of the book. I couldn't wait for the season to end.

Really 2 1/2 stars
I was generally disappointed. Dan is one of my favorite authors, but this is not Dan's best work. He seemed to have lost his spark on this one. I was very ready for a sequal to "Dead Solid Perfect," one of the funniest books ever written. But this one did not deliver. The golf history is interesting, but wears old. It seems that this effort might actually be a little too close to the boring truth regarding the touring life of a PGA tour member. The book goes from one tour stop to the next describing what everyone in Bobby Joe's party had to eat at the restaurant and describing what everyone was wearing. Then he describes every course Bobby Joe plays at and the history involved in its design. The humor is much tamer and not as funny as "Dead Solid Perfect." One note on the editorial review, probably just a mis-type, but his last book was 15 years ago, not 25. It was "Life its Ownself," a prequal to "Semi-Tough," and a much funnier book than this.

Never Give Up

Do not read or buy this book.
John E. Dupont is a murdering liar and most likely did not write a word of this book himself

A great inspirational book
I wrestled in highschool and had a losing record for the past two years of 8-23. After reading this book and putting to use the techneques found in this book my record went to 27-6 my senior year and I ended up qualifying for the state tournament. The points Mr. DuPont brought up in this book motivated me to reach my full potential. I recomend this book to anyone: athlete, student, buisnessman, or anyone who needs to make a change in their life.

How to Give SOME Speeches
I bought this book thinking that it could help me put humor into my speeches. Humor is mentioned a few times in the book. This book is mainly for school projects. You know, if you have to give a speech at school. Not student council speeches, but academic speeches. If you want a book on how to do speech reports, than this book is for you. But if you are in a situation like me, don't buy it.

Don't get too ready to read this
With such a beautiful cover and such a career to discuss, I was very exicted about reading this book. But OH MY GOD it was painful. I'm sorry Mr Burns, but I don't care what your personal feelings are about Curtis.. I wanted to read about Curtis' life.. what he went through, how he came to write such beautiful music - but instead you give track by track detail of every album - and thats it. Here's hoping someone can write an interesting book about such an inspirational man.

curtis mayfield-another discography?
Pete Burns is obviously a fan but wouldnt it be great if we got a real biography of Curtis? This book is a very comprehensive list of his many record releases and collaborations but true feelings about the man are almost absent. Brief interview details are included but the need really is for more-anyone please?

Fire the Nanny: How to Give Up the Second Income and Build Stronger, Happier Families
Published in Paperback by Scott Browne (January, 1998)
Author: Scott Browne
Amazon base price: $12.00
Used price: $7.50
Average review score:

Good ideas; Poor presentation
I agree with the basic premise & many of the ideas espoused by "Fire The Nanny". However, it is poorly written, contains mathematical errors, and has multiple typographical errors.

There are other books that cover similar material with more information and less self-righteous "preaching" --- Any of Amy Dacyczyn's books far surpass this one for content and readablilty.

"Fire The Nanny" may be worth reading, but it is not worth buying. Borrow it from your local library or someone (like me) who bought it in ignorance.
