Easy to use and comprehensive
Are you the type that doesn't want to read an entire book just to get a quick answer? Do you like step by step instructions? Normally step by step instructions means that you need to do the entire book in order. This is great when you are learning to use an application and actually make something as well. But for the times when you want a quick answer AND get it step by step, this book fits the bill.

This book is a step by step reference. It is laid out in a very logical manner and covers the huge range of subjects for Photoshop CS. You can even use it if you have previous versions of Photoshop. The appendix lists all the new features of Photoshop CS and Image Ready CS.

I always love good quality paper in a book and this one not only has great paper but the layout is clean and crisp. Each task includes features such as tips, keyboard shortcuts and cross references. Another feature I particularly like is the interface images have letters in the image to match the description. This makes it easier for you to match the feature in writing to the feature in the interface. This is also done for many of the dialog boxes. There are also PC and MAC screen shots. When the MAC is different, a screen shot is included to show the difference.

Chapters 1-5 includes tasks covering the interface and tools.

Chapters 6-18 has tasks that are universal, such as opening, saving, working with color, canvas, selections, layers, masks, fills, filters, styles, paths, typography and automation. As you can see this covers a huge amount of information and tasks required to tap into the power of Photoshop.

Chapters 19-22 covers photos and videos.

Chapters 23-25 covers print tasks.

Chapters 26-29 covers web tasks.

If you want an answer fast or simply need to brush up on a new technique or tool then this book is the perfect step by step Photoshop CS reference book! When I want to get a quick answer, I reach for this book. I can easily use the index to locate the tool/task I need, go to it, do, it and get out.

If you're like many in the baby-boom generation, retirement is just now starting to loom on the horizon, as is the prospect of sending your kids to college. If you've never put together an investment plan for yourself or your family, then the Smart Guide to Making Wise Investments may be a good start. Written by Gordon K. Williamson, an attorney and financial planner, this book provides a good overview of the many investment avenues available, from mutual funds and stocks to annuities and real estate. Williamson looks at the financial mistakes that many tend to make (such as buying a new car every few years and investing too conservatively) and explodes common myths about retirement (guess what--most of us will be living and working longer than we think). The book's final chapter shows how to build a financial plan and evaluate your own tolerance for risk. --Harry C. Edwards

Has everything you could think of and MORE!
After checking out most of the study abroad books on the market before I left, this book is by far my FAVORITE. I'm currently studying in Germany (August 2003-August 2004) and wish that I would have received this book sooner than the 1 month before I left. As the information above states, this book is arranged workbook-style with space for journaling & adding your own thoughts. It is very organized & divided into 3 main sections (Predeparture, Onsite & Re-Entry) with the same 5 units in each one: (1) Personal Development, (2) Learning About Your Own Culture, (3) Learning About Another Culture, (4) Professional Development, (5) Learning Another Language. It's great because you can do the exercises that are relevant to you (i.e. someone studying in England wouldn't do the Learning Another Language section). The book discusses that it was originally created to be used in a Study Abroad class that the students took the semester before they left. The Appendices cover the other information: My Contact Info Abroad, Address Book, Packing List, Money Matters, Taking Care of Personal Business, Extracurricular Travel Plans and Journal Pages. Personally, I haven't filled up the whole book, but reading through the exercises really helps to think about things you might not have realized would be issues. This book covers everything! As far as usability, it is very user friendly as a lightweight paperback and good size to write in without feeling too big. This book covers everything and I am extremely happy to own it! I will recommend it to anyone who is thinking about studying abroad in the future.

The benefits of following the advice in Wealthy and Wise.
"I was so impressed with Wealthy and Wise that I suggested my 19-year old daughter read it. What better introduction to life's responsibilities and the utility of money? My wife heard our discussions and we put Mr. Rosenberg's ideas to work. Recently diagnosed and successfully treated for cancer, she was amazed at the current anti-nausea drugs. However such drugs are expensive and can put a real drain on a less fortunate family. My wife's oncologist thought that funds to assist in such situations were really needed. Our brand new family foundation wrote that check recently and we feel great! I thank Claude Rosenberg for such a wonderful book."

Enchanting, Freeing, & Insightful
I found this book to be VERY insightful in encompassing the hidden drives and fears behind accomplishing or or denying ones goals in life. It sort of gives you permission and a way of identifying exactly what these goals and hidden passions are. This book was one of the books that carried me along well as a teen.

The only negative I had with it, is I sensed it sort of came from a rebellion/selfish direction. It was sort of like telling you to -dump what you've been taught, and go with your gut,..it is ok, and it is right-. In my opinion, this is ok to a point, but I would argue that patterns and traditions developed over many lifetimes for reasons.

The book is definitely helpful if you have this silent burning dissatisfaction with life, and a burning to be, do, and experience greatness and happiness(as happiness depends on what's "happ"ening and joy is something from within, not dependant on the happenings). It is also good if you find that what you are doing is just not working out, not feeling right, and ways to identify clues that what you are doing isn't ideal for you.

A MIDWINTER NIGHTS TALE
.

This book is one of the most gentle, tranquil midwinter's tales you could ever read.

It's the middle of winter. It's cold and dark outside. Who wants to get out of bed? None of us do, least of all Mr Sun.

The snow is thick on the ground and the stars twinkle in the sky. Two wisps of smoke swirl skywards from the cottage chimney.

The story line from Nancy White Carlstrom is almost poetic. Take these lines as an example.

"the house snores peacefully under the blanket, of new snow".

"snow, shining, silvery the moon, the moon - get the sun out of bed"

The illustrations are perfect. We get views of this little world from all perspectives. From an aerial scene we see animal footprints leading to the door. A subtle humour pervades the illustrations. The quirky Alaskan origins of the story shine through.

We get a view from space. We see the large cratered moon in his last quarter. We see planet earth sleeping below, with the chimney smoke on the horizon. There is Mr Sun still asleep in his Four Poster bed under the covers.

Now we are taken inside the cottage and we see the warm glow of the fire and the hissing kettle.

Curled up in her basket beside the fire is the most beautiful, black rabbit. This bunny called Midnight is the little boy Nicholas' pet. Nicholas is fast asleep in a Four Poster bed just like Mr Sun's.

We are all asked to solve the riddle of who does wake up Mr Sun? One guess is that it was Mr Moon, for it was the moon "who nudged awake Midnight". It was Midnight who nuzzled Nicholas awake, and together they both stood at the window and greeted the dawn.

There is only one minor criticism of the book. It shows the sun rising while the moon is setting. This only happens around when the moon is full, yet in this book the moon is only a quarter full.

In summary this is a fabulous book. Lobby the publishers and get it back into print. The best editions are printed in Italy where it seems some of the classier children's books get printed. The vivacity and warmth of the colours is a trademark of Italian printeries.

No One Here Gets Out Alive
No one Here Gets Out Alive is the compelling biography of Jim Morrison, told through the perspective of Jerry Hopkins and Danny Sugerman. Through their unique experiences with Jim Morrison, Hopkins and Sugerman relive his life and philosophical legacy. The story is told through the poetic eye's of Jim Morrison, yet contains many outside analytical references to his behavior and persona. Morrison's essence is brought to life as his magnetic personality is captured through abstract dialog and inspiring stories. Morrison's tragic life is traced back from his childhood to the deeply spiritual awakenings that shaped his monumental life. One of Morrison's early memories was of a graphically depicted car accident in the dessert of New Mexico. Morrison portrays a prophetic Native American entering his soul, thus changing him forever. As Jim Morrison continued discovering himself through college, he became influenced by the new revolution in modern authors like Jack Kerouac and poetry from the Beat generation. However, Jim's ultimate inspiration came from within. The freestyle tone of the book is to the far extreme of non-conventional literature. The imagery provided within Morrison's tales paints an eclectic picture containing the memories Jim created. One who reads this book must step outside mediocrity and become open to a bold perception of the world. No One Here Gets Out Alive is a pivotal view at one of America's great modern poets and is recommended to those who appreciate great minds.

Interesting, Well-Assembled.
"No One Here Gets Out Alive" is always signaled as the definitive biography of Jim Morrison. I see it more as a good read, a very good read. There have been some plausible accusations of serious myth-making taking place in the writing of this book (Ray Manzarek is said to have crossed out "the bad stuff"). James Riordan's "Break On Through" is a better, more-detailed and captivating book in my opinion. But "No One Here Gets Out Alive" plays like what it has been accused of being, a great myth. It is kind of appropriate, considering Morrison is essentially a myth onto himself. His image has not died and the music is still alive and well among the youth (I'm not complaining, hot chicks love "Light My Fire" whenever I put it on). The book is a must for Doors fans, it is a document of the life and times of Morrison, of the era in which he flourished and it celebrates the power and poetry of his songs. It is a neat visual experience in the descriptions of Jim's stage performances and in his primal acts we see a blue-print for the madness we so regularly see in today's rock acts. Reading the book is like reading some kind of modern legend. It is also packed with some great photos of Jim and the band (some album covers are included). The story of The Doors has always been a big epic drenched in excess, insane genius, artistic tenderness and even tragic romance. You can see where all the great songs come from. Jim Morrison was a brilliant artist, his songs are timeless and he was also a fantastic poet capable of creating very captivating images in wonderful songs like "The Crystal Ship" and "End Of The Night," he took us on dark, hypnotic journeys in "The End" and "When The Music's Over" and simply recorded some great music. "No One Here Gets Out Alive" celebrates more the image than the man, and yet is also a fascinating examination of the life. I will never tire of reading Jim's lyrics and hearing The Doors' best songs, "No One Here Gets Out Alive" is a book for fans who feel the same.

Absolutely Loved It !!
I already knew about Jim Morrison and the Doors through their music. Which I really like listening to. And when I found this book at Barnes and Nobles, I was happy to see that they had a biography on Jim Morrisons' life. Because I really like his music and wanted to get to know more about his life. Once I was done with this book, there was so much that I learned about him and everything he went through and experienced. I would recommend this book to anyone who is open minded and likes the doors.
