This item was purchased for use in a college course but could be used on its own because of the CD and the online help in
addition to the book. I like this better than the Mavis Beacon trial version I used. There are also helpful sections on grammer
and punctuation.

This was one of the best books I've ever used. I learned to type using the live demonstrations and skillbuilding games in
about 6 weeks. After that I learned the basics of Word so that I could type letters, reports, and other useful documents that
I use in my daily life. When Alex Haley asked what he would have done differently when he wrote "Roots", he said "I would
have typed faster".

I recently enrolled at a local technical college and this is the textbook for one of my required courses. I wasn't sure how
this book was going to help me because I'm already proficient in typing. I do, however, think that this book is excellent
for those who have no experience with keyboarding / typing. The instructions are simple and straightforward. The software
program that is used is simple and easy to install.
This book is geared to increase your ability to type using the "touch" method. If you're a hunt & peck typist this book will help you learn how to type without having to look at your fingers all of the time. There is ample room for practice and the lessons encourage you to improve both speed and accuracy.
The only thing I don't like about this book and software are the "Paced" practices. It is very easy to get locked into them in a seeminly neverending loop. If you get caught in one just remember that you can always go back to the lesson menu and go forward. You'll have more of the paced practices in later lessons.
Overall I think this is a good textbook for the beginning typist to learn the touch method and improve speed and accuracy.

I had to take this for my keyboarding 1 and 2 classes. I have decided to keep this and not sell it, so possibly my kids can
use it or someone in my family, that needs to brush up on typing can use it. Or I even might use it to increase my speed even
more.

I bought this for a class which was cancelled. I decided to go ahead and work through the book. I am only partially through
the lessons and have increased my typing speed by 14 words a minute. I am sure with the practice pages that this will increase
before I am through the whole book. I have used the Reference Manual many times for documents that I have had to type up
recently.

This book is very good at explaining the IS-LM model and is easy to follow. It proceeds in a logical fashion and is very clear.
I believe there are sufficient graphs and examples to make clear how the models work. The principle models are: the quantity
theory of money and The Loanable funds model for explaining the classical economy; First, the Aggregate Demand curve is derived
from the quantity theory; Then, for Keynesian analysis the IS-LM is explained very well and is used to explain fluctuations
in the AD curve. From here, Mankiw moves logically and smoothly on to the Mundell-Fleming model. Of course, AS is addressed
as well as many other concepts. We used this text in my intermediate macro class. Although, the book is very intuitive and
not very quantitative in its presentation, and hence a little boring, I learned a great deal and I highly recommend it. I
have learned the concepts and models backwards and forwards with this book due to the abundance of graphs and examples.
Easy to understand if given effort

The bad news:
I am not aware of any great textbooks on macroeconomics. This one is no exception. The main problem with this and other macroeconomics books is when they get to international trade and the exchange rate. They just do a bad job in this part of macroeconomics.
The good news:
It is not a great textbook, but it is a fairly good one. The book is about beginning/intermediate level macroeconomics. It covers all the major topics in the field. The case studies are very useful. The explainations are very good (except international trade).

The Future of Sustainability: What We Need to Know
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-10-05
Review Date: 2008-10-05
After pursuing countless generations of continuous growth, the human species is finally confronted with one of its greatest
challenges: how to live sustainably upon the earth. The fact that we have not done so up until now is readily evident - natural
resources are running out and being degraded, local environments are experiencing radical climatic changes, and people around
the world are dying from starvation and disease. As a result, new models are being sought out in terms of how human should
live and be on this planet. Sustainability is the key word, and knowing what it means and how to work towards it is essential.
One of the best books to date that I have seen actually explain what sustainability is and how to go about achieving it is
The Road to Sustainability.
Written by Federico M. Pulselli, Simone Bastianoni, Nadia Marchettini, and Enzo Tiezzi as part of the Sustainability World Series published by WIT Press, The Road to Sustainability presents a view of sustainability that starts from the acknowledgment of nature's physical conditions and limits that we can no longer neglect. That is, that there are a finite number of resources (termed natural capital) in the world and that this finite number must be accounted for in models of growth, development, and sustainability.
Most models of human and cultural sustainability are based on economic factors and indicators, such as the Gross Domestic Product in the U.S. and many Western countries. The GDP (also sometimes called the gross domestic income) is one of the measures of national income and output for a given country's economy. GDP is defined as the total market value of all final goods and services produced within the country in a given period of time (usually a calendar year). It is also considered the sum of value added at every stage of production (the intermediate stages) of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given period of time, and it is given a money value. The GDP does not distinguish, however, between activities that produce welfare and those that damage welfare, nor does it consider the depreciation and devaluation of natural capital caused by human activities. Natural capital is an economic way of saying "what the earth gave us:" clean water and air, animals and plants, mountains, oil, top soil, natural resources, etc. To correct this lack of natural capital in current economic models of sustainability, the authors of The Road to Sustainability employ the Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare (ISEW). ISEW was developed by Herman Daly and John Cobb in 1989 as a more holistic model then the GDP, and it includes aspects of economic life ignored by GDP. For example, it combines positive factors (like services of domestic labor, services of durables, area of natural reserves) with negative factors (defensive expenditures, loss of natural capital, use of non-renewable resources...), integrating different economic, social, and environmental components. ISEW therefore enables specific regions, communities, or areas to be represented in a more realistic way since it includes human impacts on natural capital.
How important is sustainability in these terms? As the authors clearly stress, it is very important. Using the example of Overshoot Day, one begins to understand the importance of this book and its overall model. Overshoot day is the day in the solar year when humans have used up the year's supply and begin to consume their capital. Greenhouse gases build up in the atmosphere, wastes and contaminants accumulate, resources become depleted and minerals are increasingly expensive to extract. The capacity of the environment to provide the same quantity of goods and services as it did the previous year is called sustainability. When we utilize more then the environment can produce, we have overshoot natures sustainable capacity.
Research indicates that Overshoot Day was December 19 in 1987, November 21 in 1995, and it was October 9. The latest data indicates that Overshoot Day for 2007 was in September, and so far 2008 is shaping up to be the same.
The Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare corrects aspects of the calculation of GDP. It subtracts social costs due to air and water pollution, long-term environmental damage, defensive private expenditures on health and education, and deterioration of renewable and depletion of non-renewable natural resources. It adds, as a component of welfare, the value of unpaid domestic work in families, the distribution of wealth, considers services of durable goods and public infrastructure as benefits.
Comprehensively written - and accompanied with numerous charts, graphs, and case examples - The Road to Sustainability provides a solid introduction and argument for beginning to build a sustainable future. We need to understand sustainability not only in terms of product development or natural resource use, but also in terms of the human impact and footprint on the planet. This book does just that, and much more. Anyone concerned about the future of the planet and the human species place on this planet should read the book. It is not only geared towards economists and other academics, but towards the wider audience of activists, concerned individuals, and people in the process of working towards the future. The two case examples in the back of the book are an excellent addition, clearly discussing how the ISEW model works and can be applied to any municipality, state, country, or other entity. Reading books like this give us hope - hope that is based in science and that is economically sound.

Well, I recently purchased a Dake Bible and God's Plan for Man by Dake. I had owned a Dake Bible in the past. I loved it!
But I was unaware of many of the teachings in it. I knew of some, but not all...
The Dake Bible has so many things to say about everything it is hard to digest every teaching in it.
But I liked what I did know about it enough to recommend it to others. I even gave copies away to others.
But when I received my new Dake Bible and God's Plan for Man I started to read them together and study God's Plan for Man thoroughly! I discovered so many strange teachings by Dake I was shocked!!!! I decided to put those books on the shelf!!! I am not so sure I even want to look at Dake's opinion on things at all now!!!
The Dake Bible is one of the most thorough Bibles I have every seen. Dake has something to say on just about everything!!!! I have to say when Dake is right his notes are really good. But when he is wrong he is really wrong!!!! He tends to stick with stuff that is always controversial. It seems like he is always trying to prove his point. Instead of just giving commentary on a subject...
I do not think I could ever recommend anything from Dake again!!!!!
I suggest that you find out what Dake teaches before you purchase his stuff.
Here are some of his errors:
1) The Gap Theory
2) The Giants were hybrid children of angels and women
3) Races should not mix
4) Pre-Adamite race of people on earth
5) Demons are not fallen angel
6) God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all have their own bodies, souls, and spirits
7) That the heavens and the planets are inhabited
8) That not only does Jesus have a first and second coming. But the Father also has a first and second coming.
9) That when Jesus returns the Father will be coming with Jesus...
10) King David will be resurrected to rule in the Millennium. Jesus will not be the King of Israel...
11) The tribulation will not be worldwide.
12) The Church is not the Bride of Christ
13) There is a difference between the Kingdom of Heaven and the Kingdom of God...
14) Saul was not the first king of Israel, Moses was...
15) Satan never enters bodily into anyone... (what about Judas?)
16) There are other kingdoms on other planets
17) This Earth will be renovated. The new Earth is a renovated Earth.
18) There is no eternal sonship of Jesus Christ. Jesus was eternal as the Word. The sonship was nothing more than the humanity of Jesus.
19) Satan and His angels will dwell visibly with men during the tribulation period.
20) The manchild in Revelation is not Jesus it is the 144,000 Jews resurrected to heaven.
21) There was a flood worse than Noah's it was before Adam. It was Lucifer's flood that destroyed the first creation. So God from Genesis 1:2 had to recreate the Earth...
This stuff just goes on and on!!!!
No one that has not been saved at least 20 years should even consider looking at the Dake's Bible...and then you better have a really good working knowledge of the Bible!
One other thing, I am a Pentecostal/Charismatic and these teachings are not reflective of what Pentecostal/Chaismatic's believe!!!! Most Pentecostal/Charismatic's would find these teachings very strange!!!!

The real kit of Gregg College Keyboarding contents: Text(1 book), manual(small book, around 200 pages-very necessary in class!)
and a CD. At the College Bookstore, cost abot $110 (plus sale tax)
What I bought by Amazon, for $75+shipping, was ONLY the text book. No CD, no manual. It wasn't clear on the ad that the "kit" is incomplete.
If I should know this fact, before purchasing, I would never buy this product.
I thought to send the whole box back, but I do not want to invest other$ 128 for the same purpose. Now, I use a copy/ scanned version of the manual in class, and I don't make homeworks at home ( without CD)
Next time, I'll be more carefully when buying second-hand books.

The seller was good. I just should have read the fine print because I needed the 2007 version and I found out later that I
actually paid for the 2003 version.

I purchased this book to use with a college class thinking it was a complete student kit. It is NOT - it is just the book.
I am sure the text is fine, but I rated it with 2 stars for the confusion. This is only my first disappointment with Amazon
- their delivery and service has been great other than this.
