Fantastic, REALLY COMPREHENSIVE Book!
The most important thing to know about this book is that it is REALLY COMPREHENSIVE. Not only does it cover everything you hope it does, but it also covers it from BOTH the perspectives of lower-level employees, and higher-up employees.

I bought this book after finding out that working hard, and STAYING OUT of office politics was getting me NOWHERE, AND HURTING MY CAREER. Especially since I work in an organization where it seems that office politics is all that many employees are thinking about! The book discusses the ineveitability of office politics, and gives you an extensive test to find out how "political" you are yourself. The results surprised me in that I was not quite the "dolt" I had previously presumed myself to be!

Once you have examined your own potential at office politics, the book tells you every possible strategy to get on your boss's good side, and every possible strategy to gain the support of lower-ranking people, as well. One example they gave that I would NEVER have thought of is to pay careful attention to whether your boss prefers written, or oral, communication. I never paid attention to that before-I was giving my boss written memos, because written information is more comfortable for ME, when he prefers to hear things ORALLY.

The book then goes on to describe techniques to grab power in an organization, how to use political information, devious political tactics, political blunders, outwitting difficult people, bouncing back from career adversity, surviving a corporate takeover, and defending yourself against unfair politics. It discusses ALL of these topics from the perspectives of lower-level,mid-level, and upper-level positions. So no matter if you work in the mail room, in the executive suite, or anywhere in between, this book is for YOU. One of the best, most comprehensive books I've recently read.

Self Improvement?
Working hard, keeping your nose clean and the promotions will come and you will be successful. NOT. The book is filled with REAL LIFE EXAMPLES of why working hard doesn't always work. This is the best book on the market today if you want to protect what you have and earn what you deserve. The book will also help those who want to move ahead and steer clear of the traps and potholes. Very easy to read and apply.

The careers bible
This book is a bible for those who want to boost a career. Life is too short to learn from all mistakes. So this books helps you do prevent mistakes and leads to insight how to use the best office politics without losing your self-respect.

It's full of clear real-life situations to make office-politics-rules understandable. I should have had this book when a started my career after the University. It would have saved me time, being fired and frustration.

Iv'e recommended this book to all my brothers and my best-friend.

compendium of practical astronomy
for those of you who happen to be new in this amazing and challenging area of astronomy, you will be lost looking for information to start your studies. there are too many books in astronomy on the market, but all of them turn out to be too easy or too complicated. they are designed for people that only want to be superficial in astronomy or astronomy students. but if you have a technical background or at least, feel good with some technical stuff, this compendium will fulfil all your expectacions. it covers everything about astronomy, from the basic in instrumentation until stars formation, planetary sciences and weird space objects. highly recommendable.

A Classic Book--A Shame it's Out of Print
Michael Langford's "Master Guide to Photography" is one of the most comprehensive and nicely illustrated books on photography. It's a shame that the publisher has let this title go out of print--it should be updated and republished. Michael covers everything from camera basics to the history of photography to very advanced camera techniques and it's all presented in an interesting and aesthetically pleasing way. Time to reprint and expand it--but worth finding the original from a used dealer.

Porsche 917 (Kimberleys Racing Sports Card Gd, No 1)
Published in Paperback by Motorbooks International (September, 1987)
Author: Michael Cotton
Amazon base price: $15.95

A great book on a great (racing) car!
With lots of color (black and white) photos, this book looks at the most powerful (& at 15 million German Marks - a lot of money in the late 60s - most expensive at the time to develop)sports car ever to take to the track.

It goes into its history at Le Mans - its originally purpose being to win there at virtually any cost, including looking at the long tail version that would reach around 240 mph on the long (Mulsane) straight there, and the factory sponsored John Wyer/Gulf sky blue & orange colored short tailed cars that dominated many long distance races.

It also looks at the 917s that might be more familiar to Americans - the turbocharged open cockpit Roger Penkse prepared Can-Am series monsters that produced outrageous horsepower and which arguably put the final nail in the coffin of an already dying racing series. This was due to their enormous power - more than any normally aspirated engine could produce, the attention to preparation by the Penske team - more than any other team but the then underpowered McClaren works team, the driving skill of its drivers, not least Mark Donahue, and the rising costs of gas due to the October war in the Middle East causing presssure to be brought on the series' governing body.

No other team could equal Penske's Porsche turbo 917 and once McClaren pulled out of the series it was all over bar the shouting.

The book has a good, easy to read but informative text - the author, Michael Cotton, obviously did his homework - as well as a list of the car's successes at the back.

The book is maybe a little on the slim side - it almost got a 4 star rating from me as a result, nevertheless, a great addition to any real motor racing enthusiast's library.

Great resource
I moved to the Piedmont area a few years ago and wanted to plant our garden with native plants. That's when I stumbled upon this book. Its great. It has hand drawn pictures of birds, leaves/seeds as well as a small section of color photographs of animals (mammals, insects), plants, habitat. The chapters are as follows:
Geography
Weather & Climate
Farmlands (to include "animals of Hayfields, animals of pastures, microcommunities)
Plant Succession (what happens once a farm is no longer farmed, what types of plants grow, the different phases you're likel to see etc)
Well-drained Soil habitats:
The growing forest (and animals that live there)
The mature forest (and animals that live there)
Dry soil habitats:
The growing forest (and animals that live there)
The mature forest (and animals that live there)
Wet Soil habitats (including flowing water):
The growing forest (and animals that live there)
The mature forest (and animals that live there)

There's so much more to this book too. It covers the different types of habitats - the plants and animals that you'd find and does. Our house is on a former farm that grew up into a young woods with a stream running through so it's been fun to read thrpugh this book and see the different types of habitats and understand more about why they grew up in the way they did and what they experienced 50 years ago.

Great resource - highly recommended

Why hasn't this been reviewed?
I can't believe no one has reviewed this very excellent book on "The Middle Atlantic Coast". I've read and reread and learned so much about the area I've lived most of my life. Perhaps it's the title "Natualist's Guide". Before I read this book I wanted to be (a Naturalist) and upon finishing it I found I was on my way. The Sierra Club guidebooks are extremely informative and this one in particular is a great buy.

Must have!
It is VERY nice book. Especially for medical students and residents.
You can understand from detail to basic of diseases. With this book, you know how to approach and make your list of differential diagnosis.
I worked for infectious disease patients for a while, and this book was very useful because you can get the general knowledge not only about infectious diseases but also general internal medicine, skin lesions, bone diseases, and so on. I especially recommend the chart of antibiotics(Chart 37). I like this book because we can also get the update etiology of diseases. So nice.

The best!
Very concise, covering a large number of conditions with information about clinical features, diagnosis and treatment... just the best medical book for students, residents and general prationers.

Current Medical Diagnoses and Treatment 2003
This book packs in all the important aspects of client treatment into each section. The headings are a little hard to see when skimming, but the information is excellent. A must have for Nurse Practitioner school!

Toddler loves
Since my little boy has been 2 he wants this book to read just before bed. The rhyme is sweet and simple, though you should know that the book is very short and the rhymes aren't great..."how many hairs...millions, billions, trillions..." ahhh, a bit ridiculous, but all that matters is my little boy is happy.

THIS IS A WONDEFUL BOOK!
MY DAUGHTER LOVES THIS BOOK. THE WORDS ARE SIMPLE, THE PICTURES ARE BEAUTIFUL, AND THE CONCEPT IS ONE ANY CHILD CAN UNDERSTAND. HANNAH HAS ALWAYS BEEN A READER, BUT THIS WAS ONE OF HER FIRST, AND SHE STILL LOVES IT.

Beautiful illustrations!
This simple, short book has wonderful, sweet illustrations! It is my 20 month old's favorite... she actually brings it to me AND will sit in my lap withOUT the book and show me all the body parts used in the book. The above review is excellent! I love to give this as a gift. I highly highly recommend it. :)
