Even though I am a little old to be still reading these stories I can't help it. I love a good Nancy Drew mystery! This story pulled me in and kept m reading. I enjoyed reading about how smart Nancy was in confusing and outsmarting her captives. Any mystery lover should read Nancy Drew stories just for the pure enjoyment of it.

I am a book lover and have read at least a chapter book a day. I have read all the Nancy Drew Books and this one was my second favorite! In this book Nancy goes to China to find a missing girl and uncovers a smuggling ring!

Nancy, Bess and George go to New York when Nancy's Aunt Eloise asks Nancy to investigate the disappearance of one of her neighbours, a young chinese girl who was living with her grandfather. The search eventually leads the girls to Hong Kong. Mr. Drew accompanies them because his case also has ties to Hong Kong and if that weren't enough of a ridiculous coincidence already, Ned Nickerson is studying in Hong Kong at the same time. To be quite honest this book didn't interest me very much. I found the plot boring and unoriginal and there was little action. In the book, the criminals threaten to put a bomb on the plane if Nancy and her friends fly to Hong Kong. So what does Nancy do? She uses a ruse and hopes that the criminals believe that she is not making the trip and then the girls board the plane potentially putting the lives of numerous innocent people at risk. Talk about selfish!!! Couldn't she have at least driven to another city and flown out of there. I wouldn't say that this is one of the ten worst books of the series, but it's pretty close.

"Mystery of the Fire Dragon" was the very first entire Nancy Drew book I have read in its entirety, and I became a fan and tried to get my hands on every Nancy Drew book I can (courtesy of the school and local library)since.

The plot is Nancy's aunt had a pair of new neighbors who moved in her building. They were an elder chinese man and his grown daughter Chi Che. Chi Che went missing one day and in an effort to track her down, Nancy (the redhead) and her two constant companions Bess (the blonde) and George (the brunette) stumbled upon a smuggling ring. The action eventually took them to Hong Kong....not before someone threw a flowerpot at Nancy, Bess was abducted, Aunt Heloise' oven exploded, and George have to undergo Oriental drag. And oh yes....Nancy's hot beau Ned Nickerson is revealed to be able to speak Chinese. How convenient.

Overall, this is one of the better Nancy Drew mysteries... considering that this book was written in the 1950s/60s, its depiction of its Asian characters are surprisingly non stereotypical; none of them acted like buffoons or know karate. Which is very refreshing.

I liked the book "Nancy Drew and the Mysterious Mannequin" because I like mystery books. This one was exciting because it had so many details, twist and turns, and surprises. At the beginning of the story, Nancy's father, Carson Drew, receives a beautiful rug with a hidden message about a missing mannequin. Nancy is excited about the mystery and asks her friends to help her try to find out where the mannequin is now and why it has been hidden all this time. This takes them on an adventure around Riverdale and then around the world. The friends end up travelling to Istanbul, Turkey where someone gets kidnapped and.... well, I won't ruin it for you but it was great!

A woven Oriental rug is anonymously sent to the Drews from Istanbul and Mr. Drew believes that it is from a Turkish client of his, Farouk Tahmasp, who formerly owned a rug shop in River Heights. Nancy discovers a coded message woven into the rug. The message instructs Mr. Drew to bring Farouk's mannequin to Istanbul and Nancy tries to learn what became of the mannequin after Farouk closed his shop in River Heights. I didn't find the mystery in this book terribly exciting and there really wasn't much action or suspence either. Toward the end of the book, when Nancy and her friends go to Istanbul and the book should be coming to a climax, what do they do? They go sightseeing and the book turns into a tour guide with about one chapter left. There is a different twist at the end of the book, but if you paid enough attention when reading the book and didn't fall asleep you could probably figure that out anyway. This isn't one of the absolute worst books of the series, but it isn't far from it.

This book is about a rug who was sent to Carson Drew with no name or address. This was the message woven into the rug:Carson, find mannequin. I love her. Carry her to, well, I can't tell you the rest because you have to read it and find out because I don't want to spoil it for you!

The rug wanted Carson Drew to come to Istanbul, with Farock's manniquin. Nancy Drew finds this out and takes Her father,Ned(her boyfriend),Bess and George(cousins),Dave and Burt ( there boyfriends),and Aisha (Farocks lover)to Istanbul to find Farock.

The Story of Helen Keller
By Lorena A. Hickok

Have you every thought about how it felt to be deaf and blind at the same time? This a true story about Helen Keller. She was deaf and blind. She lived in Tuscumbia, Alabama. She was born with a sickness that made her blind and deaf. She was alone in the dark until her teacher Annie Sullivan came along. Annie taught Helen Braille. Helen was no longer in the dark. Helen was able to communicate with other people.

I like this book because it teaches me about the blind and deaf. Also, it is a happy and sad biography.

I think the author was trying to get through to us that Helen Keller had to use patience, effort, and confidence. We should use those lifeskills in our lives too.

This has been the best book I have ever read it made me cry and laugh as little Helen finds who she realy is. But she lost her sight and her hearing as to menagitis. She was lost in the widerness she was locked up until Anne came and she taught Helen how to do many things. She was a little girl who found the key to her happyness and her life. I recommend this book to ages 8-12 so go and buy this book and see what happend to Helen.

This was a great story for kids of Helen Keller's life. I easily understood the story line and it could be eaisly understood by at least a third grader. It starts with the tragic tale about a girl in darkness and goes to her elderly days when her dream was that no blind man will wake around with a tin cup begging. It describes how her sense of smell saved her mother, her sister and brother-in-law by smelling the fire that started under her bed.It tells how she was the oping act for plays to pay for her teacher's eye operation.(teacher meaning Annie Sullevin)It goes into great deatale about her life. That is why I would rate this book five stars.

The drawings in this book are inaccurate (instruments, the way they are held/they open, maps etc.). The artist did an awfully poor job on just about every illustration. It makes you wonder about the text! I was happy to buy this book as I thought the whole series was a great idea! But I wish the authors put more effort into this project and more responsibility.

My children asked for them for Christmas! They can't put them down. I homeschool and these are a great tool for learning. My 11 year old reads them on her own very well and my 7 yr. old reads them with a little help. Highly recommend.

All About Basketball, by George Sullivan

Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain, and Julius Erving. If you had to use these names in one category, you would probably put them in as some of the best basketball players ever. This book gives you their bios., records, and so much more. That's not all! This book also talks about the history of basketball and how the game started.
I enjoyed learning about the players' records and their accomplishments. Here is a direct quote from the book that really got me into it, "Chamberlain's best season as a scorer was 1961-62. He finished with 4,029 points in 80 games, an average of 50.4 points per game. That's a record that still stands."
Here is another quote that is great, "Jordan can shoot with accuracy from midrange to long distance. His head bobbing and his tongue wagging, he beats defenders with either hand at different speeds from any spot on the floor." Michael Jordan spent his career playing for the Chicago Bulls, and has been an excellent basketball player to watch on the court.
My favorite part of the book was the biographies where they talked about the famous and not so famous players in the history of basketball. I recommend this book to anyone who is into basketball and wants to learn more about its history.

This is a groundbreaking book that everyone who even thinks of having a baby should read. More and more, society needs to realize the importance of the baby's time spent in utero, and this book beautifully illustrates that experience. Each chapter is concise and leaves the mind to ponder the many insites it touches on. The content is loving and heartfelt as the baby expresses what it feels and knows about life, past lives, and the spirit realm, just before he is ready to enter this world. This book is so wonderfully written, I was moved to tears at several instances. Although the idea of channeling a baby's messages, while in the mothers body, is not a very mainstream idea, the content is so down to earth and real, you can't help to suspend your disbelief( if you have any) and succomb to the unconditonally loving messages that are addressed.

More jokes about eels for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, more clumsy spells of wizards, more greed from the Headmaster, and a smelly female dragon that is awfully mad at Wiglaf for killing her son. Probably a bit too predictably for nine to twelve year olds, this dragon's weakness is a bath. Basically a saturday morning cartoon episode set to prose, this might be good for reluctant readers just getting started on chapter books or six to nine year olds who devour up anything medieval, but the 9 to 12 tag is pushing it a bit.

My son and I discovered this whole series of books when he was a first grader...perfect for him to read as a second grader now. In the spirit of Harry Potter and the Hobbit but not so complex that kid's lose the story line. Full of jokes and adventure, I cannot recommend these any more strongly for the 7 to 10 age group (depending on reading ability). We've had two impressive endorsements:

When we first began reading about Wiglaf, it was on a plane to Colorado. As I read to my son, I realized that other children were tuning in to the story. Several parents asked for the book titles and the author when we landed.

Also, late last year I read books 1-3 for a first grade class and have since read to the second grade. The library has been unable to keep two full sets in stock and the teachers have purchased their own sets. It has taken reading by storm as boys and girls strive to finish the series.

Oh yeah, and adults will get a private chuckle out of the humor and wordplay from time to time.

This book was great! I got it for my 9 year old son, because it was recommended by Amazon as similar to Harry Potter. It has many similarities, including humor, peril and awful relatives. The main difference is the length of the books. At under 100 pages, my son finds this book much less intimidating. I definately recommend this book for anyone who enjoys wordplay, adventure, and likes seeing the little guy win every once in a while.

Although the revised editions of the Nancy Drew books never lived up to the originals in my opinion, the writing was always decent...But then around volumes #27-#30, it really started to decline, and became what I call poor quality. It seemed as if the writer('s) really did'nt care what thier readers would think of thier work, just as long a they got thier pay check, they were happy. And the art is atroucious! The cover paintings arent too bad, but its the illustrations inside the books that really show the lazziness of the artist. I really liked the original illustrater's (which was Russel Tandy) approach. He would first actually read the whole book before going to work, unlike Nappi who would doodle a few pencil drawings that looked as if they came from a generic color book from Big Lots... I dispies this garbage...

This review concerns the original 1953 edition and the revised 1969 edition. Nancy goes on the trail of the ruthless Velvet Gang, bold criminals that steal valuable jewels and art from the homes of wealthy people while the owners are throwing parties. The gang members use velvet masks to conceal their identities. This was a very good book that kept me interested from begining to end. The book is well-written (the original, at least) and is loaded with action. George is kidnapped, as are Nancy and Bess and Nancy is constantly coming face-to-face with the gang. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I highly recommend it to all fans of Nancy Drew.

Title: The Spider Sapphire Mystery

In this book Nancy goes on another wild journey. This book was really fun and it keeps you on the end of your chair. In the book Nancy tries to find out a mystery about a spider sapphire , and at the same time she is taking a trip to Africa and trying to find a firend's brother. The reason that I liked this book was because it has many descriptive words, and it gave lots of detail about how each person felt about a topic. Some reasons that I dislike this book was because in the story there were some misspelled words and the student on the trip that caused a lot of interruptions. While Nancy, her friends and students from her school were on the plane a girl name Gwen was told to sit down. She said "If I'm going to get killed I want to be standing up, not sitting down." Then the captain of the plane asked her to take her seat and she said "I'm going to have my father sue this airline!" Again and again she was told to take her seat, but she never did, until the airplane almost crashed!
My two favorite parts of the book was when Nancy found out wher Ned was and saved him, and when Nancy got to me a girl named Lilia Bulawaya. She was a great singer and friend. Lilia had asked Nancy to find her brother in Africa. Nancy agreed that she would try. Nancy gave another great mystery away. Well who knows maybe one day I might just turn out to be another Nancy Drew!

Nancy, Bess and George go on an African safari with a group of Emerson University students. Before leaving, Nancy is asked by a singer to locate her missing brother who was a safari guide. Also, a synthetic spider sapphire is on display in River Heights (apparently it must rival New York or Los Angeles for these types of shows), but the exhibition is troubled by reports the that owner of the synthetic sapphire has stolen the real spider sapphire on which the synthetic one was modelled. In typical fashion, both mysteries which originate on another continent are tied to the exact place in Africa where Nancy is going. If someone can find even the smallest shred of something to enjoy in this book, I wish they would let me know because I couldn't find anything in it that I thought was good. The plot was boring, the writing was bad, the action was...there was no action, even the artwork was terrible. I didn't enjoy this book at all and I can't recommend it to anyone.

But I kind of had the hint that Rosamond had done something with the key from the beginnig of the story. All in all it is a great book.

I recommend this book to anybody.
