In it's 80 pages, this tiny little book (three inches tall) gives a great introduction to the work of the celebrity we know as Tom Cruise. This is terrific for trivia buffs! There are great photos, a summary of his career so far, and a few quotesby Tom and those close to him. It's a nice treasure for the Hollywood junkie.

I read the book and thought that it was very well done, it had a very captivating plot, and it went into great description about one of hollywoods best actors, Tom Crusie, how is roll playing Lestat De Lioncourt, affected his life, to his greatest, most horrifying moments in his life, truly unique, with a profound endearment, that with-holds the human heart in an iron cage. I loved it, and thought it over, and said, it was one of the most interesting reads, I had ever read, and now, Tom Cruise is one of my favorite actors, with his characters, and his motives, and his thoughts, about his children, and his wife. In this book, not only will you find, Tom, but all of us, locked together in hatred, with a sadness, of hope, and pain, with this pain, we can see, not only the truth, but the harsh fiction with-in our lives. Tom Crusie is a very deep person, spiritualy, with his thoughts, and his great chararcter, you will fall in love with his movies, and his whole look upon life, death, and truth, to the great subjects of fiction, in this world. The plot, already holds a keene fasination to most people, and with its stories about Tom, makes it more captivating, I really loved, and I thought it was sad too. How his life affected alot of people, not only mine, but others as well, I loved the book, as much I do Tom Cruise.

My 7 yr old daughter was in 1st grade when we bought this book. My daughter's class went from studying the 43 presidents to studying the 50 states. We had been pleased w/the presidents book from this same series, so we bought the state version. The small size, paperback nature, reading level, & casual drawings (like an elementary class project) make it VERY KID FRIENDLY. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it for the target audience -is elementary school children who will have a chance to study/grasp more in depth material later.

This book was written by students in Ms. Brandt's class which does not specify the age or grade. Five students took on ten states to research; autographed by each, and gives a simple but fun look at the states including humor. The reoccurring theme of each state is the state, its nickname, capital and facts that would be of interest to children. The illustrations bring the states to life with the capitals depicted by a star in each students' writing. They wrap things up with a list of all the Presidents, when they served, and where they were born. I think it's a great starting point and reference for 3rd and 4th graders.

This is an adorable story with precious pictures. It relates the adventures of a young mouse, Wilfred, who is celebrating his birthday. His fellow mice plan a pleasant surprise for him, but he'll have to work to get it. I recieved this book as a two-year old, and I am so glad my mother preserved it for me. This is a great book for bedtime, or any time. Young children and adults alike will enjoy the delicate pictures and accompanying text. You will truly enjoy this book!

Excellent 'Learning to Read' Book for pre-K

This is one of the books I am teaching my three year old grandchild to read. I tried the phonetics learning approach and didn't like it. Now I am teaching him to read by sight. So far, so good. He can read half of the book now and learning the words is getting easier and easier for him.

I recommend this book for anyone that wants to teach a pre-K child reading. It is a fun book all about children and their everyday adventures and the words are short and easy for a child to recognize.

The child learns by seeing the same words over and over again in different sentences.

If you are trying to teach a 3 or 4 year old reading, start out with this series. You both will enjoy it!

humor for grammar geeks

Review Date: 2008-11-19
If you've been living in a cave, the subtitle explains what Eats, Shoots and Leaves is about: "The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation." Since I'm a bit of a grammar geek (albeit an imperfect and occasionally lazy one), I absolutely loved it.

There wasn't much that was news to me. Ones vs. one's was helpful, though I understand that's controversial. I spent far too much time one day googling to chase down which was correct. For the most part, I vastly prefer the practicality of the British usage of such things as putting punctuation inside or outside quotation marks depending on where it makes sense and whether to add an extra S when forming the possessive of words ending in S:
British: When did John say "stop"?
U.S.: When did John say "stop?"
British: Thomas's
U.S.: Thomas'

I do, however, much prefer the logic of the terminal comma in a list, since it makes it clear whether or not the last two items are separate or a pair.

More entertaining than the facts, however, was the humor. I laughed every couple of pages, and read so many excerpts aloud that my 12-year-old picked it up to read as soon as I'd finished it.

The bottom line here, though, is that this is a very subjective book. If you're the kind of person who knows the difference between there, they're, and their, cringes at new car's and truck's, and daydreams about taking a Sharpie to the 10 items or less sign, you'll probably love this. If that sounds obsessive to you, and like I should get a life, you'll probably hate it.

This book was recommended to me for my bad grammar, but it didn't do much to help. My problem with this book is that after you read it, you feel like a third-grader. I'd prefer less opinion and more instruction ,but that's not the case in this book. The author wants you to know her opinion but offers little instruction. If you want to read a rant on grammar then this is the book for you, but if you want a black-and-white approach with examples ( instead of someone repeatedly telling you how easy it all is)don't even think about using this book as a reference.

My punctuation is definitely not perfect, but I enjoyed "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" a lot because I too am frustrated by the insanity that has writers putting an apostrophe before the "s" in any word ending in that letter! Drives me batty! I believe that the author has toungue planted firmly in cheek and found myself laughing all the way through her book. I am glad that even in punctuation, humor can be found.

It also heightened my awareness of "writing right" and made me want to do a better job of using reference guides to understand why things are done as they are, instead of just going by the seat of my pants and "I think it looks right, oh I'll just throw in some more commas."

If you must: I suggest your local library. That, or you could buy it used. They are currently selling used copies of the hard back for one cent.

That's about all it's worth. Her information is fair, but her attitude is horrible. She insults every facet of the very audience that is asking her for help.

I was impressed by the value and quality of this book.... Outstanding!!!!

A great book, it includes all the famous plays such at Romeo and Juliet, and Hamlet, and all of his others. It also includes shakespeares sonnets, which themselves are great. If Shakespeare hadn't written such good plays he'd be famous for his sonnets alone. It is a must have for the drama lover. Or the poetry lover.

William Shakespeare's works make sense out of what it is to be alive. They cover every facet of the human condition, and include some of the most beautiful poetry ever written. Nobody should ever go through life without reading these incredible plays. And this edition is an excellent choice; it's not overpriced, it's thorough and clear; and unlike many collections of Shakespeare's Complete Works, you can pick it up and read it without breaking your arm. Highly, highly recommended.

Brian Kendig's previous review says it all, but I wanted to add a caveat to a still-potential buyer: the text is so incredibly condensed that the endings of some of the longer lines are scrunched up in awkward brackets in the white space above, making for a disjointed reading of an already unapproachable edition. (Please read the previous review--it's quite helpful.)

It is called ectoplasm , not R. L. Stine's protoplasm.
Ghost stories are good stuff for camp fires and little kids,
but this one is kind of hokey.
Not believing in ghosts is fine:
we can't really "measure" them.
But if you die and wake up as a ghost,
that might be entirely different, ha, ha...

A Night in Terror Tower is an amazing little book. With only 129 pages it is more than able to draw in a reader and fuel the imagination long after completion. The story is about two young children in London. They take a tour to the Terror Tower in London. The tour turns sour when they lose their guide and are hunted by the mysterious man in the black cape. The children are suffering from memory loss and nothing seems to be going their way! When the man in the black cape catches them the story takes a major twist, the kids are now in the past! This story is excellent for younger readers and will keep them turning pages for hours. I would recommend this book for anyone ages 8-12, but even adults could enjoy this as a quick night read! The graphic settings and bone chilling details to R. L. Stines books really keep you involved. The story is filled with humor, horror, drama, and action that won't let you sit anywhere but the edge of your seat.

They spend their day with a tour group. They come to visit terror tower. While touring, they get separated from their group and are persued by a man in a cape that wants them for reasons unknown. No I'm not talking about Nancy Drew.

In this editon (the original) Nancy and her friends travel to Shadow Ranch where they fall into a mystery. They come across an abused child living in a shack. Her guardian seems to be a crazy, old lady who likes to beat the child. Remember this is the 1933 version, and this kind of behavior was normal. Nancy feels for the child, and upon searching the shack she discovers a trunk of expensive girls' clothing as well as a doll. Does the trunk belong to the little girl? Upon closer examination, Nancy believes that this little girl might have been kidnapped at an earlier age, and is being brought up to believe that the kidnappers are her real parents.
Will Nancy solve the case?
This is a really good copy if you can get your hands on it, if not applewood books has a copy.

Bottom line is this is a terrific book to read. It's a great book about horses and of course Nancy Drew!Anybody who loves mysteries will love this book. It's basically about Nancy Drew going to her two best friends'Uncles'house/ranch to have a great time riding horses and solve a mystery. When her friends tell her about all the vandalism that has been going on Nancy knew she had to figure it out. Plus she her friends, and some other people on the ranch have been seeing this so called "Phantom Horse" who everybody thinks is a ghost. Nancy doesn't know if it's really a "ghost horse" or if somebody on the ranch or anywhere else is just doing this as a prank. That's all I'm going to tell you for now, anyway buy this book you will loooove it!

The Case of Nancy Drew: An Adult Reader's Thoughts On SHADOW RANCH
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-09-20
Originally written by Mildred Wirt Benson from outlines by Edward Stratemeyer, the Nancy Drew series was first published in 1930s. THE SECRET OF SHADOW RANCH was the fifth book in the series, and it presented its heroine as a rich, headstrong, and distinctly reckless teenager who sometimes carried a pistol and who wasn't above breaking the law when it suited her purposes.

As the series progressed and other writers began to generate Nancy Drew novels, the character changed and Nancy was "toned down;" instead of flatly rich, she became reasonably affluent; recklessness was replaced by commonsense caution; and while she might be willing to bend the law a bit she would never knowingly break it. In the 1950s and 1960s the earlier novels were re-written to reflect this change in character.

As originally published in 1931, SHADOW RANCH not only found Nancy packing heat, it also demonstrated that she was a good shot when it came to fending off wildlife. Re-written in 1965, the story concerns Nancy's visit to Arizona, where she faces a phantom horse and works to find both a hidden treasure and a missing artist who may be in the hands of kidnappers. Earlier books found Nancy assisted by Helen Corning, a slightly older friend; on this occasion, however, she is accompanied by two cousins, the ultra-feminine Bess Marvin and the tomboyish George Fayne, both of whom became reoccuring characters in the rest of the series.

The Nancy Drew books tend to repeat certain basic ideas, and in this particular instance the repetition is not so much amusing as it simply repetitious. Still, the book does have its minor charms: Nancy is distinctly the ideal of a specific era, able to do whip up a chocolate cake, win a square dance contest, and solve the mystery all at the same time.

The Nancy Drew books are not great literature by any stretch of the imagination--they are too distinctly formula for that--but they are competently written, literate, and never talk down to their target audience. They are also good "comfort reading" for grown-ups who recall their childhood reading fondly. SHADOW RANCH is not among the best of the series, but entertaining nonetheless.

The Sceret Of Shadow Ranch is great mystery. It's about Nancy and her friends thinking they wher going for a vacation on Beth and Georges uncels ranch ranch in Arizona for the summer. A hidden treasure and a phantom horse became another mystery for the three friends to solve. I mostly liked the ranch setting . i would love to spend a weekend at a ranch like that. i didn't however like how mean the bad guys wher to each other. I think it is sad when other people make others feel worthless. Nancy, was my favortie chartecter because she was mysterious also when she was solving mysterys she keept going no matter how hard they were to solve. My favorite part is on page 152;"You're a downrite marvel, that's what you are young laddy," Ms,Thurmond said that about Nancy Drew. i like when the charecter,Nancy, how she helps notice how smart she really is. it is a really good story. The only question i have about this book is that;i wish they would have said what the debt was, like why they had to sell the ranch? I would recommend this book greatly because it really makes you think.

Inside the life of people who walked with and interacted with the most perfected human who ever lived on Earth. Through hypnosis and past-life regression, a first-person view of other times in history can shed more clarifying light on the information we have been given in scriptures, etc. Dolores Cannon is a very curious, professional woman who loves research and she painstakingly checks out all the facts she's uncovered in her work as past-life regressionist. I deeply appreciate her work and the light of truth she has brought to the world. The life of the Essenes was to record and protect knowledge and the teachings of Jesus. They prepared for his coming, then sheltered and protected Him and his family. Very moving and factual.

I greatly enjoyed the story or the information presented about Jesus as Yeshua BenDavid student in the Essene school. The story including much rich background information that supports my beliefs from many other sources. If it was made up she had read a lot of material. But included in the back of the book is a little story that she included after running across people in Britain who knew a story of Joseph the Tinman, Jesus's Uncle. Now this story related that all the gret kings of England were descendnts of the House of David family that escaped up to Britain after the crucifiction. I had to cut that out of the book and throw it away. It is absolutely not possible. First of all the orginal population was greatly displaced with the invasion of the Anglo SAxons after 410 AD and the bloodline was completely changed in what we now know as England. It has been genetically demonstrated. So that part of the book was really off the mark and should never have been included. I throws it all into suspect.

INCREDIBLE & BREATH TAKING!!

I can not endorse or recommend this book any more than to say it is 10 stars on a 5 star scale! I have studied Jesus and the Essenes for over 30 years and I found this information enlightening. There are many mysteries explained about the Dead Sea scrolls, Moses, Ezekiel, creation, the Magi, and other Bible characters and stories. The information on the education and youth of Jesus is amazing. The revelations about Mary and her uncle Joeseph of Arimathea confirm information only now being written and speculated about. There are astonishing disclosures about the miracles in the Bible and the life of Jesus! Plan enough time to read this in one sitting or two at most. This book has the potential to change your life.
