I selected this mini book along with some others that I thought were interesting. I am a bridal designer and as a personal touch I like to give my brides little gifts along with their purchases. This little book is excellent! I now give a copy to all of my brides. It contains amusing anectdotes, lovely poems and little tidbits on making your wedding day very special. Makes a great keepsake.

This book stands head and shoulders above the many "material histories" that have appeared over the last few years (e.g. salt; fish; spices): it overflows with fresh insights, original ideas, and interesting objects for speculation. It is amazing (and sad) that it is now - August 2006 - out of print!

I have been looking for a long time, for a pictorial book on the Canadian Rockies that really does justice to the great scenery on offer - this book is it !
As some of the text you read early on in the book says, you will quickly realise that this book was not put together in a few weeks by travelling up and down the highways and slapping together a book. There are not too many typical roadside views here, if you want those then buy almost any other book on the Rockies. There is a terrific selection of scenes from flower filled meadows, to panoramic vistas of lakes and peaks from mountain tops and much more. There are no pictures of hotels or towns, just magnificent scenery.
It may be difficult to obtain this book new these days, but if you are passionate about beautiful photographic books on the Canadian Rockies, then you will want this one. Also note that the author has published a new book of similar quality in 2007 called "The Magnificent Rockies" and if Amazon does not sell it at some stage, "canrockbooks.com" does.

This book presents a very straight forward and a practical approach in explaining complicated financial concepts. One salient difference of this book, when compared to other Corporate Finance books is that, the author draws very good practical examples at various stages when explaining the actual use of financial concepts.

My motivation for buying this book was two fold.

Firstly I wanted to refresh the subject matter I learned under Financial Management of the MBA program I followed sometime back. Although at the moment I am not very much involved in Finance related activities, in future it is likely that my job scope will involve Finance to a greater extent. The simplicity of explanations and the practical insights suggest that you do NOT need to have followed an MBA to understand the concepts.

Secondly the decision to buy this book was fairly swift. This is because I was already reading one of the books co-authored by the same author John Tennent which is "Guide to Financial Modeling" which is yet another down right practical guide to financial modeling.

This book strikes a very rare balance between Simplicity (In Explaining), Practicality and Comprehensiveness of the subject matter covered. In my opinion this book fills up a much needed void in the field of Financial Management.

HANK AARON

Hank Aaron was born in Mobile, Alabama, on February 5, 1934. His father was a boilermaker's assistant. He was luckier than many black men in Mobile. Jobs were hard to find. But he had a wife and seven children to support and he worked very hard for his family.

Hank wanted to be a baseball player from the time he was a little boy. He would always dream of becoming a big leaguer. It is good to dream. It makes you work harder to try to make that dream come true. Hank Aaron worked very hard. He practiced everyday and made that dream come true. He set many records in baseball. His batting average is over .300. He has over 3,000 base hits. He hit 755 home runs, 41 more than Babe Ruth. That is one of the things that made him a baseball legend.

The main character is Hank Aaron. He was not a confident person until he began to play Major League Baseball. He was caring and very sensitive. For example, it really hurt his feelings when they rejected him when he wanted to get into the Major Leagues.

The conflict for Hank Aaron was when they would not allow him into the Major League Baseball. That really put him down. They told him, "No blacks are allowed to play in this league. You will just have to play in the Negro League like the rest of the blacks." So, he did. He went to the Negro League and played for the Indianapolis Clowns, in 1952, making $200.00 a month.

To resolve his conflict, he was observed by the manager of the Milwaukee Braves. He saw that Hank batted cross handed, but that only mattered until he saw how powerful Hank's swing was. Also, he saw how Hank got a base hit almost every time he was up to bat. The manager asked him to be on his team. Of course, Hank said yes. He has gone on to become one of the greatest players in baseball history. And he has done it in a quiet, calm way. He just plays the game.

I would recommend this book especially to people who like baseball. I would give this book five star rating and two thumbs up. Hank Aaron's story will inspire you and sometimes make you want to cry.

In this action packed mystery Frank and Joe Hardy face lots of dangers with the help of their friends Chet,William, Tony, Biff, and Phil. The Hardy Boys travel around the world from Jamaica to Bayport to Africa. Starting in Jamaica on a winter vacation, Frank and Joe Hardy are caught in a storm inside a little hut. Joe accidently finds a mask in the sand, that leads them on search through a desert in Africa for the Mysterious Caravan.

When they were running from a rock slide it was so realistic, I felt that I was there, with my heart pounding in my chest. Like all of the other Hardy Boys books, this one has lots of suspense and entertainment. I highly reccomend this great mystery by Franklin W. Dixon.

I bought this for my 6yr old daughter when she was in the process of learning how to ride a two-wheeler. It's a great book that she can read by herself and relate to the subject. She loves it!
