The underbelly of Atlanta comes alive!
As with Down on Ponce, Fred Willard takes us on a journey through volatile terrain -- the underbelly of Atlanta, those seedy sidewalks, infested flop houses and lunatics dens of what might otherwise be considered a forward thinking city. And he does it with smart biting humor.

What we have here is a group of criminals and would-be master minds embroiled in a game of one-upmanship that culminates in a slam bang surprising effect. Even Willard's supporting characters create havoc in this ever escalating mayhem and madness. But at the heart of Princess Naughty is a love story that makes you happy to be alive.

If you want a fun, fast, wild ride of a novel, BUY THIS BOOK.

Naughty is Nice
If you have read Willard's first book, DOWN ON PONCE, the first coupla chaps might throw you -- this is a bigger, broader book, third person, with more "scope." At first, that can make it seem less intimate. But just go with it for more than 2 chaps (and these are SHORT chaps) and you will be sucked right in. Under all the violence and cynicism (on the part of the characters) and BLACK BLACK HILARIOUS BLACK humor, there is JUST the SWEETEST love story going on -- oh yum. Toe-scrunchingly sweet, causing you to have GREAT BIG YEARNINGS for things to work out okay even though you are essentially reading about bad, bad criminals who do bad, bad things. Everything CONNECTS wonderfully in this book. NOTHING is gratuitous. Is a character spending a page prancing around delightfully in a gun-slinger girl outfit? Pay attention. It'll hook up later. BOTTOM LINE: If you can't love a book that can simultaneously reference Island of the Housewives and Antonin Artaud, there is no love in you.

Princess Naughty and the Voodoo Caddilac
Once again, Fred nails it to the page. He combines the authenticity of character of Elmore Leonard, the word craft of Charles Portis with the wild imagination of Christopher Moore. Is it true he's scripting a movie?

G.A. Henty's Book on tape: Read by Jim Weiss
My son was given this book on tape as a gift. It ended up being a gift for the entire family. Henty writes very good and interesting historical fiction that has wide appeal. Although most of his books focus on young men in history, my daughter also found the story of Wulf very interesting and entertaining.

Exciting, historically accurate action-adventure!
I received this book to read as a school assignment. After I read the first ten pages, I thought it was going to be pretty boring. I mean, how interesting is a book about getting in a quarrel about tripping over someone's feet. I wondered how Henty managed to write a book that goes on for 360 pages with really small print that kept going on like that. Then, I decided to read a little more. The second chapter wasn't quite as bad so I read a little more, until it got so interesting I didn't want to stop!

G. A. Henty wrote a scores of historical fiction stories about the Middle Ages and other time periods, including Ancient Civilizations, the Renaissance, and even journeys to the new world. At the turn of the century, he was a renowned author, especially among high-school boys. I am surprised that he has been almost completely forgotten today. Henty is a marvelous author who wrote exciting, historically accurate, action-adventure books.

Wulf is a Saxon thane who is under the command of Earl Harold of Wessex. He is always by Harold's side, ready for adventure with his right-hand man Osgod and his best friend Beorn. They fight the Welsh, the Bretons, Vikings, and finally the Normans under the command of the Duke of Normandy, a.k.a. William the Conqueror at the final conflict at Hastings.

If all Henty's books are like this one, I'm going to ask my parents to order the whole set! The only downside to investing your time in this book is the beginning is a little slow. But after that, It's Great! I can't wait to read the next one.

All good books.
This is an excellent book as well as all of the other books by this author. Get them all.

Masterful weaver
If you've ever walked in the woods, loved a dog, lost a dog, lost a love, failed at school or been to camp, you will relish Amy Blackmarr's essays in Above the Fall Line. Blackmarr returns to her native Georgia from Kansas, where life dealt her some blows, to live in a tiny cabin in the mountains. There she reflects on her surroundings and everyday events, masterfully weaving irony and insight but avoiding sentimentality. Her topics range from romance gone bad to her dog's encounter with a bear, and her wry observations allow the reader to learn from her self-discovery.

Aim for Grace
Amy Blackmarr's third book of personal essays may be the best yet. Her sensitive descriptions of the environment, poetic musings, and characteristic flashes of humor make this book a joy to read. The epigraph is a quote from Ann Beattie--"What will happen can't be stopped: aim for grace." I believe that's what Blackmarr did with this book, and she has succeeded admirably.

A Comprehensive Guide to a National Shrine
I first found this book in it's first edition in 1994 after a trip to D.C. After picking it up from the library, I really wished that I had it when I was in D.C. I read it from cover to cover and learned so much about Arlington. I picked up the second edition during a visit to ANC in September, 2001. Every grave marker and memorial of renown is mentioned and the history behind the larger monuments is very good. It would be really nice if color pictures accompanied the text. I hope that Mr. Peters continues to update the book every now and then.

Arlington National Cemetary Shrine to National Heros. GREAT!
This is by far the best text devoted to the history of Arlington national cemetery I've seen. It begins with a detailed hisory of how the Washington-Lee family aquired the property, and the government seizure during the Civil war.. The property was used as a burial ground in part to prevent Robert E. Lee family from returning. The book goes on to list numerous notables now buried there and includes a brief but informative biography of each, most have pictures of the gravesite. Finally the book lists the many memorials inside and around the cemetery and the offical requirements for burial at Arlington.. A Fascinating book, I've read it several times and find something new every time I pick it up. Well worth purchasing for the history buff, or the casual tourist who wants to learn more about our most important national shrine.

Shandler Hits For The Cycle Again
This book is a must-have for any fantasy baseball participant. It offers concise reviews and predictions on most major leaguers in a frank and humorous way. His statistical approach is unique and almost always on the mark.

Talk about well-kept secrets!
Man, oh man. Where has this book been all these years I've been playing - and losing - at fantasy baseball? I've never seen it in the bookstores but this has got to be the absolute best approach to winning your league. I've never looked at stats this way before, but it sure makes sense that we've been evaluating players all wrong. Shandler has won experts leagues with it and heck, if Rob Neyer and John Hunt use it, there's got to be something to it.

The Great Book for Fantasy Baseball or just Baseball
If you're like me and you grew up reading Bill James' baseball abstracts, then the Baseball Forcaster is for you.

Shandler uses sabermetric analysis to look at the numbers behind the numbers in order to evalulate players skills. Those skills are what translates into stats.

Its a good book to read whether you've been doing fantasy baseball for years or just starting. Heck, its a good book to read if you're not interested in fantasy baseball, but want a systematic approach to analyzing player performance.

My only criticism is that it doesn't really have much analysis on minor league players (although it does have comprehensive Major League Equivalency stats for minor leaguers, there is no commentary).

Its one of the two baseball books I couldn't live without (the other one being the Baseball Prospectus). Its what I base my preseason scouting on, and I always have it handy during the season. I only hope too many other owners in my league don't start buying it.

The One Fantasy Baseball Book You Need
As every fantasy baseball competitor knows, many publications out there contain important statistical data necessary to prepare for your upcoming season. But Shandler's book is different. This book not only provides data on every major league player, it gives you brilliant insights on how to INTERPRET that imformation. Shandler even includes stats for minor leaguers -- and a Major League Equivalency Table that helps make these stats relevant when looking for those all-important rookie bargains.

The only negative I can find is that this book is geared for traditional ROTO League players, not Points League players. But the statistics included, along with Shandler's baseball acumen, really make this book indispensable for ANY fantasy league team owner.

I used Shandler's book last year and finished in the money. Money that I used, not coincidentally, to pay for THIS year's book.

One Of The Best!
I have read the Battle of Resaca by Philip Secrist and I highly recommend this book for the serious student of the Battle of Resaca.
Dr. Secrist has done an outstanding job by going into more detail than is normal for a Civil War book. The maps are great and are drawn so that even the novice can find the sites. Secrist brings up-to-date what is happening to Resaca at the present time. I found in the book why that there were certain parts of the battlefield that I couldn't locate. Well worth the price!

Live the battle.
Ideal book for a Civil War buff. Take it with you if you visit the site. Written accounts from the soldiers that stormed across the hills put you in the moment. Several good maps and even pictures taken a few days after the battle help take you out of your living room and into the past.

A Columbus,Ga. Resident living abroad
The Black American Series- Columbus Ga. is an excellent source of information regarding life for the African American in the rural south.I am from Columbus,Ga. and thought that I knew a lot regarding the African Americans history in this city.Judith Grants book makes you cry, laugh and at the same time do alot of soul searching about a people who's history is so rich but yet still ignored. It challenges you to examine futher the lives of people like Dr.Thomas Brewer and Elizabeth Lunsford who were champions in the struggle for their people but unknown to many today.I highly recomend this work to all people but especially to young African Americans who need to see how their ancestor struggled and still suceeded despite all the odds stacked against them.

English 2 period 2
When i first started to read the book "The Hardy Boys: Competitive Edge" i thought it was going to be a real boring book but it turned out to be pretty good. The book takes place in 1996 in the summer olympics and somebody is trying to sabotage the games. I thought it was good because it never got boring, the suspense was stupendous, and it was action packed. It was never boring because there was constantly something going on, it never stopped, every chapter something bad happens. The suspense was on going in the book, i was always on the edge of my seat when the hardy boys came close to the culprit but always seemed to slip away in the nick of time before the hardy boys could do anything. The book was action packed with acts of fightsm guns, and chases through the areas of Atlanta, Georgia. Like at the end, When Joe Hardy was fighting a bad guy on top of a SkyLift 400 feet in the air, now that is what i call action. The hardy boys always seemed to do the right thing in all the situations that they came across, and they made reading the book all worth while. And their funny comments kept me laughing through the whole book.

a good book
I liked this book it really kept me on the edge. I recommend this book to anyone who can read

Excellent Book - Best I've read on GMI
Gary does an excellent job detailing the establishment of the school, the life of cadets on campus and their participation in the Civil War. He has an incredible amount of information on many of the cadets, their attendance at GMI and courageous actions during military action. Cradle of Glory truly brings to life young men who grew from "seed corn" to soldiers fighting for the southern cause. The book includes photos and detailed rosters of each year of the school and Caper's Battalion. If you love reading about the Civil War and GMI, you'll love this book. Great, Great Book.
