Excellent writing, and artistry.
A superior book! The author presents the history of this island in a glorious fashion. The artist is superb. Recommended reading for everyone.

This book is a must-read for all MANKIND (humankind?)
Mr. Green makes history enjoyable, even to those who may have originally thought that they didn't like history. Upon reading this book one quickly realizes that history is indeed alive with intrigue and heart-ache. Join the ranks of those who have read and been changed by this book

A first-rate history of a beautiful place
The typical visitor to St. Simons Island heads straight to the beach. But the vacationer's stay would be greatly enhanced by a quick detour to the local bookstore to buy a copy of this excellent book, which makes for easy beach reading. Mr. Green has made history come alive by highlighting the lifestyle of the island's pre-Civil War residents and by portraying its surprising significance to John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church. Mary Green's illustrations enrich the text by portraying both the beauty of the island and the strength of character of its early residents. The net result of the "Green team's" efforts make those who come to the island realize that it is more than just a pretty place

A Savannah, GA must have
This map is the greatest city map I've ever used. If your planning a trip to Savannah, GA, you must have this map. It is money well spent. My Mom almost wore it out during our mother-daughter trip to Savannah. Don't go to Savannah without this map!!![.]

Take It With Ya
This quaint southern gem on the coast of Georgia can be explored on foot and this map will make your stops plenty and worthwhile. If you want to admire the architectural beauty of homes, streets, parks, (and ghosts), or find oysters on the half shell with great live music, this book and a good pair of shoes is all you'll need.

Best Guide for Savannah
I bought this map because of the great reviews I had read from other Amazon customers, and I was not disappointed! I appreciated several features. The map displayed in different colors most of the bed & breakfast establishments, hotels, shops, restaurants, and historical sites in the riverfront and historical areas of Savannah. The back of the map displayed a more general view of Savannah and the surrounding area. The map is small, portable and can be used as keepsake afterwards. It was well worth the price!

Fantastic Detail
I was blown away by the enormous amount of information about the area's character, history, and interesting places. The portraits of the people and places are facinating. This is a unique guide which I'm looking forward to soon explore on the ground.

Super Book!
Fabulous color photographs, readable, enjoyable, interactive and fun. Many times I drive through a beautiful backroads town and wonder about it's history, it's people, and it's sights. Now I have a guide that will answer my questions and more.

Great Book
This book is packed with great information, beautiful pictures and fun little "games". WONDERFUL JOB Ms. Forbes!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe White's advise is always on target!
Dr. Joe White is one of the most, if not the most respected horticulturist in the state of Louisiana. His advice is always on target and the book would make a great addition to any home library.

A wonderful reminder of childhood memories and gardening
I received this book as a birthday gift and haven't been able to put it down. It evoked childhood memories of Sasanquas in bowls, spider lillies in beloved friends' yards, and laughter at funny names like "Grancy Graybeard." I remembered a gigantic yellow Lady Banksea rose that grew so large it took over the roof of my playhouse. Thanks for the memories and helpful advice. Even my grandfather the masterful gardener would approve.

The best of its kind on this topic!
Anyone wishing to garden in Louisiana's unique environment should consult this guide. Organized by plant type, it is easy use for species identification, planting instructions, and care tips.

Refer to this guide before purchasing plants and again when doing garden maintenance.

Great behind the scenes look at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics
The author was the public relations spokesperson for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, thus he had a great insiders perspective. He includes insightful insider stories. Great read!

What a wonderful book!
From the very first page, I felt like I was there. Dick Yarbrough combines incredible professional credibility and integrity with expert story-telling. What a great read!

Everything you need to know about Atlanta and the Olympics
I was always suspicious about the goings-on behind the scenes during preparation for the Olympics in Atlanta. While Richard Yarbrough's book has not completely convinced me that all was well, it awakened me to the fact that the folks working in the trenches performed admirably under very adverse circumstances. It also confirmed my belief that the Committee's goals were undermined by a selfish and greedy city government. Yarbrough's account of preparation for the games, the bombing of Centennial Park and the competition is must reading for those who, like me, need to know the truth. Good going, Richard!

Baseball Forecaster 2002 Annual Review

A 'must have' for fantasy baseball
I have been getting the Forecaster for about 7 years. It has all the information you need to make good, informed picks during your fantasy draft. Ron's player comments are usually right on the money, and very entertaining. If you don't have the Forecaster and other members of your league do, you're starting from a serious disadvantage.

Invaluable Fantasy Guide
This is the first(definitely not the last) time I have ever bought this book. I have used it now after about 2 months into the year so much the ends are curling up from frequent use. I bought four other guide books for prep in our fantasy league. I NEVER USE ANY OF THE OTHER GUIDES ANYMORE!

Save yourself a lot of time and buy the only fantasy guide you need to buy. This book is not a rehash of the "same old junk" as all the others seem to be. It breaks down the reasons to grab people nobody knows about and goes "inside the numbers."

This is my new best friend that nobody will know about but me. I just hope the cover lasts all year!!

Shh! Don't tell anyone in your league about this book!
Ron Shandler's book is nothing short of exceptional - and it's indispensible for fantasy league players. His use of sabermetric tools is very sophisticated but also easily understandable. (Not many other guides discuss important concepts like Batting Eye, Base Performance Value and Speed Index.) Shandler's book is so solid and thorough you'll find yourself hoping that no one else in your league also owns a copy!

The definitive forecasting tool for fantasy baseball
Have subscribed to Shandler's Forecaster since 1997. Believe me, I've been through all the other mags and publications, both by noted fantasy gurus such as Bill James, John Benson, etc in addition to Spoting News, Fantasy Sports and so on. I still read and buy the others, as I consider them interesting and enjoyable reads. Yet, when I want the crucial info that will lead me to league titles, I refer to Baseball HQ. The Forecaster has guided my preseason and in season ship for 6 yrs now. The best, no questions asked. Projections based on empirical data, trends and base skill indicators. I could go on and on..... Play Ball!!!!!!!

This one is it
I won my first baseball title last year and $1000+ thanks to this book. Although I didn't follow the dollar values of each player, I thoroughly studied the trends in different ratios to determine my own values. I scored at the draft and dominated the entire league. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone except my league mates. I can't wait for the 2004 edition. Also look for Rotoman's projections.

By far the best fantasy baseball guide being published
I began playing fantasy baseball two years ago, and my immediate success is due in large part to Ron Shandler's Baseball Forecaster. Don't bother wasting money on the multitude of worthless preseason fantasy baseball draft magazines on the newsstand, or speculative publications like Baseball Weekly.

One of the reasons Baseball Forecaster outdoes the competition is that it focuses on what it calls Base Performance Indicators, or what economists might call leading indicators. Instead of assuming that a player like Paul Byrd, who suddenly won 17 games last year, or Mark Bellhorn, who came out of nowhere to hit 27 home runs, will continue those trends, Baseball Forecaster looks at some underlying skill measures to understand how those levels of performance were reached. That way it can assess the likelihood of those players repeating the performances. Likewise, it can assess whether a star player who had an off year will bounce back.

Shandler and his team have refined these base performance indicators every year, and while they're very good they don't stop improving them. For example, last year Alfonso Soriano batted .300, much to the chagrin of many sabermetricians who were concerned about his free-swinging ways. John Burnson took that as a challenge and created a new formula to predict expected batting average, one which, tested on historical data, proved superior to their old formula. This book is especially good for 5x5 rotisserie leagues because it has base performance indicators to predict nearly all of the most common 5x5 statistical categories. However, I also use it for another league I'm in which is based on expected runs created and saved.

Last year the Baseball Forecaster helped me grab players like Vincent Padilla, Eric Gagne, and Jarrod Washburn for very little...

ATTN: CHRISTMAS (and other) SHOPPERS
THIS 1998 EDITION HAS BEEN UPDATED. We came out with a new second edition in May 2003; and amazon.com does carry it. However after six months of trying, we've been unsuccessful at getting amazon to reflect this on their websites. You can find this newer second edition on amazon, but you must type in the title field, and verbatim, "Discovering The Tidal Potomac, Second Edition." OR you can purchase this book from many marina ship stores along the Potomac. OR you can purchase an autographed copy directly from me. Please visit the webite, "www.heronislandguides.com" or send me an email: "rkrhodes@hotmail.com" Captain Rick

Updated 2nd edition
Better laid out, but color is gone. Still the best guide around.

THE BEST cruising guide I've ever owned
This is definitely the BEST cruising guide that I've ever owned. Each of the many maps are annotated, for ease of reference. The restaurant reviews are consistent with our experiences, as are the descriptions of the places to visit and see.

Kathy Hayes...
This is Mr. Kempton's first novel. The story is basically of ayoung baptist minister in his 20's who has never stepped outside ofhis own backyard into the real world. All his life, his life has beenplanned for him to be a Baptist Minister and he believes it himselfthat this was his path. He realizes his unhappiness and takes theopportunity after his parents death to seek out a dying unknown Auntin Atlanta Georgia. This also gives him time to think about his ownlife. He immediately befriends a group of  3 roommates who he decidesto "crash with" while seeking out his Aunt. What isinteresting is that he does seek out on each of the characters theirreason of leaving their church and loss of faith in God-although theyare of different religions. He faces issues he has not faced before oreven known. There is sex, language, drugs, abortion, race, homosexuality, and the world of 20 year olds who are verydifferent from him. He also learns of past secrets and issues of hisfamily that were unknown to him. I think the best statement or thoughtin the book was that even after a person dies, they continue tochange. Charles, as a preacher, falls too easily into this world, going with the flow of this new crowd without really thinking ofactions or consequences. They may cross his mind but they don't staythere. He does not want to preach, although at times he finds theright thing to say. I do believe a preacher would have stepped in morethough out of habit in a few instances but we really don't see Charlesdevelop as much as we would have liked. There were some reallydescriptive scenes of his past though and the valley that he grew upin that we liked. We did like the title as it represents "TheGod Among Us' as individuals and how these individualsrelate. Mr. Kempton is now working on his 3rd novel.

The God among us
I havwe just finished reading the god among us by stan kempton what a great book! Sex drugs rock and roll! it has it all in a well written story. I cared about Maddy,Stefan,Sam,and Charles. Thier life together was fun and risky somethign we all should of experienced. As I was reading I truely wish the best for them all, the author made you care about his characters.

The God among Us
What an amazing book! Stan Kempton rips away the curtain of respectability Reverand Charles Quail has used to hide from the world, and he parades his character's naked soul before the reader's eyes. These words were written by someone unafraid to lay his perception of life's truths on the line. In A God Among Us, Charles Quail examines the redundancy of his existence. And before you will have done much more than read `here's the church, here's the steeple' his feet of clay carry him away from that church-where he had been doing what was expected of him-away from a boring wife who mechanically performed her wifely-duty, down from a tiny northeast Georgia mountain town and into the bustling city of Atlanta. We soon learn that Charles Quail is a mere mortal-not a godlike entity simply because he once stood behind a pulpit-when he realizes he has needs more base than he can admit aloud. To say more would reveal too much. The reader needs to peel the layers of Charles Quail page by page and thereby discover the talent of the author. Thank you, Stan Kempton, for giving us this literary reminder that we all march through our daily lives on feet of clay. I look forward to your next novel, and can't help wondering what you will find next time you look inside yourself for a character.

Better than Every Dead Nanny
This is more like Sue Grafton. The dialog has tightened up. My favorite line "Rita, she's alright. You ask me if she did do it the dude probably needed killing." The plot construction is not as tight as Grafton. We are not convinced that the only way to prove Rita innocent is to find the real killer so the page-turning tension doesn't build up. It's a series of interviews which are used to bring in memorable characters and a lot of information about pop music of the sixties. The sub-plot of the two divorced couples and their daughters was more compelling. I was not sure from reading it if this was next in the series after Every Dead Nanny. Did Home-Made Sin and To Live and Die in Dixie come in between? I'll have fun finding out.

Sophisticated Cozy
I love this series and it simply gets better and better. If you're new to this series, take advantage and begin at the beginning.

Loved it
I love this author's books and this one in particular. The author has done particularly well in painting a realistic and moving account of the lives of members of a former "girl group". Something about this book made me identify so much with the female characters - a sign of good writing. Please give this book a go, especially if you haven't read this author before.
