nice change of scene
Continues the story of bratty Natalie on her one-track way to find the love of her life. Ms Price takes the characters now to North Georgia, an interesting twist, and introduces some very well-done characters who are fascinating in their imperfections. One bone to pick - whichever company did the jacket cover for this paperback did a real disservice to this book by giving it such a bodice-ripper design. These books are heavily researched historical fiction and that cover is cheesy and misleading.

Attention getting - couldn't put it down.
After having read Savannah, I had to continue the quartet. By the time I finished reading To See Your Face Again I almost felt I knew the characters personally. I had to go to my local library to find Before the Darkness Falls and I am so glad I did. In my opionion, this is the best of the quartet. When I finished it, I had to find out more about the families. I have even gotten information about the characters on the internet to learn more about their lives. This book leaves one needing more - it's just that spellbinding.

tybee tales is unique
Fast read and very entertaining. I am not sure how much of my enjoyment came from trying to guess the actual identities of some of the characters. I do think that Michael Elliott's affection for these people and this place does come through and will strike a universal chord with "mainlanders" from many places. An easy book to enjoy on the beach!

A must read if planning a trip to Tybee Island.
If you want to know about the REAL Tybee then here's the place to discover the scoop before you take a trip down there. After reading his book you might be tempted to pack up all of your belongings, give your two weeks notice and head down there to stay!

addition to previous review
The book is good for all people...topics covered apply not only to athletic fields(and golf courses), but also to the average home user. After reading the maintenance section, most people will learn that they over-fertilize and over-water.

Topics also include tufrgass diseases, weed control, and managing insect problems.

Good turf management book
This book provides a compehensive discussion of turfgrasses and their management. There are plenty of pictures showing grasses, weeds, and diseases suffered. The pictures are all very clear and close up so you know what you are looking at. There is also plenty of info on how the manage(fertilize, mow, etc.) grasses. I actually used this book in a class taught by the author(Dr. Richard Duble); while I used this as a college textbook, this book does not read like a college textbook so it should appeal to a wider audience.

New South
If you are a native of Atlanta or just a connoisseur of good photography you will enjoy this book. Gleason gets some incredible shots of the Atlanta skyline. If their is one minor flaw it would be that he forcuses to much on downtown and not enough on areas such as Buckhead and Druid Hills. One of the best things about arial books such as this is that you get to see the city from a different perspective. Gleason captures the essence of Atlanta, capital of the New South.

A great atlantan intellectual
I have known Robert Craig through his teachings at Georgia Tech, and only this book demonstrates his overwhelming knowledge of Atlanta and it's only and few representative historical architectures. Through this book, many a style mostly art deco and streamlined are defined and throughout the cultural aspects of Atlanta. A Very good resource.

dense
This was not the book I expected it to be: I expected another history of Atlanta and of the bitter fruits of Atlanta's business-oriented politics. Instead I got a group of essays about the Atlanta labor market - not necessarily a bad thing, since Atlanta politics has already been discussed to death by other authors (I recommend, for example, the works of Clarence Stone and Larry Keating). Except for the first three or four essays, most of the essays in Atlanta Paradox are of interest only to labor economists. Having said that, some of the essays (especially the one on spatial mismatch) are fairly good. Others are flawed, primarily because they result on surveys of very small groups, and occasionally make conclusions about subgroups based on responses by 5 or 10 people - hardly an appropriate research technique.

Atlanta Restaurant Guide
Published in Paperback by Pelican Pub Co (July, 1988)
Authors: Bill Cutler, Lauterbach Christiane, William Cutler, and Christiane Lauterbach
Amazon base price: $7.95
Used price: $5.00

Good overview of Atlanta's restaurants
Though this edition lacks several important restaurants that have opened since its publication, Lauterbach's book still provides the most solid, comprehensive review of the best (and worst) af Atlanta dining. Unlike Zagat's guides, this book provides in depth information about each restaurant's atmosphere, what to eat and when to go. I've come to completely trust its advice.

Atlanta: Race, Class, and Urban Expansion
Published in Hardcover by Temple Univ Press (January, 2001)
Author: Larry Keating
Amazon base price: $69.50

one of the better books about Atlanta
Atlanta continues to fascinate policy analysts -- not just because of its all too common sprawl, but because Atlanta politics combines two features not commonly seen together: African-American domination of the electoral process and business domination of development policy. If you are going to read one book about Atlanta, read Keating's. Keating explains how business worked with the African-American elite to shape Atlanta, and generally is quite critical of the results. My only quibble: as the editorial reviews indicate, Keating is not happy about how Atlanta turned out. I wish he had explained whether he thinks a less pro-business city government would have achieved better results. Certainly, demographically similar cities with more populist, anti-business leaders (such as Marion Barry's Washington) do not have superior public service or less middle-class flight than Atlanta.

Sensitive portraits in an unusual community
The portraits in this book reveal a community of people who for decades had lived in a community cut off from the city around it. Because of the social services that the "mill community" offered until the later 20th century there was little reason or motivation for the residents of Cabbagetown to leave the community. When Oraien Catledge entered the community to photograph it, he found a place where time had seemed to stop. He has said it reminded him of the fifties, when he had visited impoverished families in rural Mississippi. These sensitive portraits took a decade to compile, and reveal the conditions of the area while also illuminating the pride and self will of the residents.

ONE OF THE BETTER ONES!!!
Have read several Sibleybooks and this is one of the better ones to me. Kate Mulcay is set to interview Representative Return Pickett, called Turn by his friends. He does not show up and when they go to see about him all they find is a bloody trailer where he lived. Kate sets out to solve the mystery, she has to put up with theGandy girls, a crazy woman who a motel, a sheriff who is very young, a co-worker she can't stand. She has to go into a deep cave to try to rescue someone and she get shot at. The ending has a slight twist to it. All in all a nice little, faily clean mystery. A quick read and one I think you will enjoy.
