Being a person from a different culture I found this reference tool/work in question, i.e., Ethnic Atlanta : The Complete Guide to Atlanta's Ethnic Communities by Janet Schwartz, Denise Black, to be quite usefull and informative. In here one will find all kinds of interesting and informative information that can help different ethnic groups to find people whom share their interests. Highly Recommended.

One of the things I have enjoyed the most in reading (and re-reading) the Time-Life Civil War series are the volumes devoted to the war in the West. Most of my early reading on the Civil War consisted of the works of Bruce Catton, whose history of the Army of the Potomac obviously focuses on what was happening in the East with the clashes between Union troops and Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. Jerry Korn's account of "The Fight for Chattanooga" follows up on Time-Life volumes devoted to Shiloh, the Vicksburg campaign, and the battles in Tennessee from Tupelo to Stones River. Now a Federal army under General William Rosecrans faced Confederate troops under General Braxton Bragg.

Korn divides his narrative into five chapters: (1) Breakthrough at Tullhoma relates how the stalemate between the two armies after the Federal victory at Stones River was finally broken forcing Bragg into an orderly withdrawal; (2) River of Blood tells of the battle on the Chickamauga, where the Confederate attack was strengthened by the arrival of troops from James Longstreet's I Corp (a sidebar in this chapter tells the story of the legendary Johnny Clem, the drummer boy who would be the last man active in the armed forces who had fought in the Civil War); (3) Besieged Chattanooga offers a bit of a twist as it is the Union forces, now under the command of George Thomas, that are on the defense; (4) The Contest for Knoxville follows the Federal advancement on the Tennessee capital; and (5) Decision on Missionary Ridge covers the final Battle for Chattanooga, which involves the Federals taking Lookout Mountain and pushing the Confederates off of Missionary Ridge, thereby gaining control of the Chattanooga Valley.

With Union armies in control of Tennessee, the gateway to the heart of the Confederacy was now open to the invaders. The battle on the Chickamauga River is the key part of this volume, as Korn makes excellent use of a series of battlefield maps to chart the course of events. By the end of the book, General William T. Sherman is planning a Federal advance on city of Atlanta the following spring. As always, this Time-Life volume is full of historic photographs, etchings, paintings and other illustrations. Certainly you will have a better understanding of this part of the war in the West after reading "The Fight for Chattanooga."

I love Savannah. This book just makes me enjoy it more. If there were really a Gravesend Inn in Savannah, I'd ask my parents to let me stay there!

Being a native of rural Appalachia, we owe so much to Mr. Wiggington for the preservation of our culture. No other, in my knowledge has done so much. The entire seires of Foxfire books is a tribute to the plain, industrious, pragmatic, proud mountain ways that I so fondly recall from my childhood. Whether you are doing research, or simply trying to remember how granddaddy did it, these books are an excellent source of knowledge.

This is a beautiful book you can trust to provide solid guidance on growing not only perennials, but companion annuals and vines that tolerate hot, humid conditions. Sullivan also presents lots of ideas for creating beautiful gardens in a range of sites, such as deep shade or at the beach. One of my favorite sections is called "Don't even think of growing these plants here," in which she shares wisdom on plants that are doomed in this climate. Every coastal gardener should have this book.

An engaging narrative of the founding and growth of this town-turned-city in southwest Georgia. The authors captured the flavor and spirit of the area, enhanced by the intriguing photographs. A coffee table book that's "good to the last drop". --Brenda--

As an avid inshore fisherman, I regularly visit the Georgia coast. With so many inland waterways, the task of when and WHERE! can be quite a challenge. Fortunately, the Zydlers have accelerated the learning curve for me. Not only has the book been informative, it has also been a pleasurable read. It's not just a guide of the waterways (although it does that in great detail). The book brings a keen sense of history, a respect for nature and an armada of helpful resources that one could spend countless weeks investigating prior to a visit to this wonderland.

Georgia's coast is best discovered by boat, but having a capable "road map" will certainly enhance the journey. Whether you're a yachtsman, fisherperson, naturalist, or history buff, this book offers much for its reader.

I would encourage anyone that wishes to visit coastal Georgia to buy this book. I'm confident it will enhance your experience as it has done for me.

I am a big fan of coastal Georgia history and found this book to be full of great information. The book begins in Savannah and works its way down the beautiful Georgia coast to St. Mary's. The chapters are just the right length and full of many interesting facts about each landmark. At the end of each chapter there are detailed directions on how to find that location, times/days of operation and other vital information. The artwork found in each chapter is beautiful! This is a must for anyone traveling in the coastal region of Georgia or anyone who is interested in Georgia history.
