A Student's Perspective
The word BORING is what usually comes to mind when I read textbooks for my classes. They are not something I look forward to because I typically drift off into never-never-land. Usually they're missing some dynamic, and as a result they just don't seem to capture my attention.

However, this textbook sparked a DIFFERENT reaction in me. First off, I found the futures and opinions market interesting and the material in the textbook easy to understand. It was teeming with examples and diagrams that enhanced my grasp on the fundamentals behind the market. Unlike other textbooks, I found that I ENJOYED the reading. In particular, I enjoyed the numerous real-world applications provided in the boxes throughout the chapters.

I believe the greatest asset in this book are these real-world applications like: how price movements in the orange juice markets market could forecast freezing temperatures better than the U.S. National Weather service, to the enormous role hedging plays for the airline industries. By intertwining stimulating examples into the required nitty-gritty, it held my attention. I thought reading this textbook was both educational and FUN. It sparked in me a new-found enthusiasm in futures and opinions.

Futures and Options Markets: An Introduction
An outstanding introduction to futures and options markets, clear, concise and bursting with examples and current issues and controversies. Unlike most futures and options textbooks this text focuses on all types of assets - commodity, financial, energy etc. The book's blend between theory and applications and examples is outstanding. The applications, which are an intergral part of each chapter makes this a must for students and established researchers who want to gain a full understanding of the current state of the futures and options industry.

finally, someone seems to have shared my own experiences
This book was honest, funny, and thoroughly entertaining. Mr. Collins obviously is not afraid to appear less than cool or all-knowledgeable about his subject, but he obviously knows enough to give his reader a ton to think about. In my life, I've encountered many traders who come up with systems, but I haven't met one who doesn't frequently circumvent them. Collins' own experience with such improvisations merely confirms what I've observed--a winning trading approach is incompatible with human emotion. The trades we feel the most sure about are almost always the ones that lose money. But it's obviously hard to stay one-hundred percent committed to a mechanical approach, as Market Rap confirms. I don't know how effective the systems in the book are, (I will get around to testing them), but they seem simple and straight-forward; characteristics that work the best in my portfolios also. Finally, most traders can't get enough of trading books just because they love the subject so much. What's especially cool about this book is, the author obviously shares our passions.

Funny, poignant, harrowing, riveting, highly recommended.
Market Rap: The Odyssey Of A Still-struggling Commodity Trader is the story of Art Collins who left a job with a generous, secure income to pursue the frantic and frenetic life as a full-time floor member of the commodities exchange. In making this transition Collins endured loss of security, the consternation of family, and personal demons that threatened to undermine his dream. Market Rap is funny, poignant, harrowing, and a riveting read. Included throughout Collins personal story are highly effective trading ideas and methods. Market Rap is immensely rewarding reading for anyone who aspires to become a successful commodities broker, and non-specialist general readers with an interest in this significant aspect of the American economic system.

This kind of lucid writing is rare in business books.
The clarity of the studies and writing used to explain Asia's consumer markets pre and post-meltdown, makes this book a really easy, and enjoyable read. I would recommend it to anybody who, like me, is trying to sell into the vast Asian market and needs some guidelines on the current consumer trends. I am most impressed with the authors' style as well as the thoroughly accessible lay-out and chapters headings that enable the reader to dip in and out at random. I have used this book as a resource for a number of trips and presentations that I have given in the past few months. Better than most.

This is one of the best books around on the subject.
I'm a frequent traveller to Hong Kong and the surrounding area, and the authors have really hit on something. South -east Asia is still in recession, but it's not a recession as we know it. It's merely slowed-down to a less frenetic pace.

My last visit to the area was in late December when I visited Hong Kong and Macau. I found this book really reflected what was going on after the 'meltdown', and is packed full of really invaluable info.

A readable and thorough introduction to fixed income markets
Extremely readable. One could read this book in a single sitting and get a great jumpstart to an understanding of fixed income markets - the why and the how.

Wiseman has an engaging style of writing which prevents the stifled yawns normally associated with reading this genre, and keeps one turning the pages...

The book nicely covers the fundamental theory of why there exists a fixed income market, then turns to the players and discusses what they do, and finally covers some of the fundamental trading strategies and math employed to turn a buck.

Nice one...

i could not put this book down
i found this book very well written. It provides detail and yet covers that what it says it does. I find that Wiseman explains concepts in a verystraight forward way. Although i had to pause to eat and think about some of the financial products discussed such as "par yields". I found I was able to understand the book. The book contains some of the trader jargon and a outline of the players involved in the market. I think that anyone who wants to something with securities or trading should read this, before/during/after an intership. As the english say "Wiseman" is the dogs ballocks!! get this book!

Terrific series -- Very highly recommended
Gullandrian tradition holds that on Midsummer's Eve no one can be called to account for amorous indiscretions. Even the king's daughters indulge in revelry. Unfortunately, they are also still held responsible for the consequences of their actions when pregnancy is involved, as Princes Liv Thorson discovers. And while she might prefer to quietly return to her life in America, her Viking prince and kingly father may have other ideas.

Rumors spread quickly in the palace, and within twenty-four hours not only had Liz endured the traditional family revelation of pregnancy, including nausea and rash, but so has the man responsible heard of her condition. Prince Finn Danelaw was entranced by the woman he held in his arms, and would certainly fulfill his responsibilities to her. Unfortunately, he may have to follow her America to do so. In a country where bastard children are badly stigmatized, and a king demands marriage, Finn has his task cut out for him if he is to convince the princess that she has his heart.

This reviewer must confess to a personal love for this series. Something about the combination of historic alpha males clashing with strong Americans is incredibly appealing. Indeed, author Christine Rimmer has a flair for capturing the essence of historical flavor, yet presenting it in a modern setting, which is absolutely captivating. The amusing celebration on Midsummer's Eve is a delightful beginning to an ancient consequence! And it is such a pleasure to watch the rebellion of American daughters in the face of an archaic father with a heart of gold. I can hardly wait to see how the third and most independent princess of all handles her prince charming. PRINCE AND FUTURE...DAD comes very highly recommended.

Prince Finn, the player, meets Princess Liv
This is the second of the Viking Brides series. Liv Thorson is the first born of the triplets. She's a student at Stanford Law School with plans to become a member of the Supreme Court! Liv is in Gullandria for her sister's wedding. One of the group showing her the country she was born in is Prince Finn Danelaw. At the wedding celebration Finn and Liv do celebrate-the next morning Liv wakes up naked with Finn and unable to find her underlisse--guess who has them? Within 24 hours Liv finds herself with the family myth-she has thrown up, fainted and has a bright red rash on the upper chest--the signs of pregnancy! The maid is the King's spy so Liv & Finn find the King demanding a marriage. Liv refuses and goes home to CA. Finn follows to romance her into marriage. It's fun to watch Liv & Finn discover *Love* There is even some suspense in their story. Good book

The Speculator's Edge: Strategies for Profit in the Futures Markets

Unquestionably the Best Book on Markets and Trading, Period
Of the many dozens of books I've read on markets, trading and speculation this is clearly the best. Extremely well written, the book is both educational and entertaining. I'm personally convinced that the market approach advocated by the author must be considered by anyone who is involved in the very serious business of speculation. Clearly this book is a classic. I've had it over a decade, read it many times, and find myself in trouble more often than not whan I've forgotten to follow the ideas presented.

Best book on the subject of contrarian investing
This book is not a technical book about the science of trading or speculating. Rather, it presents a compelling and original perspective on the function of speculation in capital markets, and explains what it means to buy low and sell high. Moreover, the book has very little to do with the commodities markets specifically, and a lot to do with general speculating in the financial markets.

The Speculator's Edge is the first book I have read which explains who takes "the other side" of a stock tranaction, and explains why. As a study of the psychology of investors and the market, the book has few peers. Pacelli states the original of this book came from a boast that he could write the best book available on the subject of speculation (and investing) because most books were worthless. He succeeded.

Written by various authors ranging in age from 18 to 93
Tell It To The Future: Have I Got A Story For You About The Twentieth Century is a special anthology of short nonfiction historical stories that embody the nature of life in America across the decades of the twentieth century. Collaboratively edited by Francine Ceforla and Bobbi Madry the stories in this superbly presented anthology are written by various authors ranging in age from 18 to 93, and contain a common theme of learning, humanity, and transcendence that carries the emotional momentum of the book all throughout. An enjoyable and memorable collection, Tell It To The Future is a strongly recommended addition to personal, school, and community library American history reading lists and reference collections.

A must read for history lovers -- Very highly recommended
A rich tapestry of voices weave cultures, ages, backgrounds, hopes and dreams in a seamless presentation in TELL IT TO THE FUTURE. Indeed, dry historical data comes to life in pencil drawings and multihued storytelling. As the excitement of American's open door policy gives way to the disillusion of war, the depression, and recovery, only repeat itself, the vibrancy of the American spirit gives voice to the pain and triumphs of each decade. Each chapter lists major events that shaped that decade, an author's story that relates something relevant to the tone of the times, and interesting facts of historical interest.

Reminiscent of tradition of storytelling to preserve history, TELL IT TO THE FUTURE relates history through stories told by all generations, weaving a complex and multi-layered history shared by all. Bridging past and future, these voices share their experiences of coming to America and building this country to make it strong despite the challenges of the decades. The stories, poems, artwork, and letters lend a texture and depth that makes TELL IT TO THE FUTURE a must read. Very highly recommended.

Whale of a Good Story
Several members of my family are futures traders and this book captures the business perfectly. Also a good history, beginning before the Civil War and working its way toward the downfall of Long Term Capital Management. The author does a good job of mixing history, the markets and some great anecdotes together so you never get bored reading it. Valuable piece of history and worth the price.

Thorough and Entertaining
This book is a history of the futures and derivatives markets from the 1850s to the present. It painstakingly traces the history of the markets as they developed in Chicago and later in New York. What I liked was that the author mixed a good amount of the institutional history with stories about trading scandals to keep the reader interested and entertained. The markets showed that they were always two-faced -- dealing with the public and also for themselves. They got more mature after futures and options were introduced in the 1970's but were still seeing scandal until the late 1990s when the narrative ends. The book also discusses the battle between the markets and the government along the way and it is an interesting part of the story. Makes you wonder whether Enron would have happened if there had been stronger regulators in place. A highly recommended book since it is the first history that I know of that covers this material. Seems a vital part of American history that has been overlooked until now.

Wonderful referrence tool!
As the author of futures book "Futures For Small Speculators" and a licensed trader it is important for me to stay abreast of all of the legalese that goes with my profession.

What is even more important is that I'm constantly knowledgeable about the rules and regulation surrounding this business so that I can deal with my clients in the highest ethical fashion.

This CDRom book does all that plus much more. I was impressed by it. The easy to use search directory makes it simple for any brokerage company or large investor to stay on top of it.
