You don't have to have a degree in economics to understand money. Ivan Gelfand's "Your Money Your Future" simply explains how to make, keep and grow money. It's an easy read that covers everything from antiques to zero-coupon bonds, with concise explanations that take you from economic basics to estate planning.

The chapters on investing and retirement planning were particularly helpful. Gelfand's writing style helps the reader understand subjects that are sometimes complicated and laborious. I plan on buying more copies of the book for my friends and family, particularly for the younger members of my family. "Your Money Your Future" is what most financial books are not: enjoyable. Ivan Gelfand is somewhat like a financial "Dear Abby". His explanations are entertaining, short, sweet, and to the point.

I can sum up this book in one word - Brilliant!
Daniel Gansle is a very insightful writer. His observations and predictions are right on in my opinion. But, don't take my word for it. Buy the book and see for yourself. A must for Christian and non-Christian alike.

Amazing New Book on Technology & Future Trends!

Review Date: 2008-05-12
I have read many books on technology issues but this one is simply awesome. Well written and commands your attention from beginning to end, and quotes what many famous people including Bill Gates, President Bush and Steven Spielberg have to say about the future. The book starts off with a bang and talks about everything from early computers to robotics to artificial intelligence to the 2000 technology sector boom and bust (the "dot com bubble") to emerging and future technologies (IPTV, video e-paper, RFID/GPS, holography, cybernetics, "wallpaper"TV etc). Thoughtful discussion of what the tech revolution is, when it began and whether today we are the only ones who have coined the term "tech revolution." The really cool feature though I think is the notes Gansle places in the margins of the page, boxes that have websites to go to. I checked some out and they are all very interesting and fun to look at, amazing to have such a thing in a book where you can go on the Internet too. (I especially got a kick out of watching the original intro to the Six Million Dollar Man on YouTube!). The book is fun and relevant in that it mentions recent sci-fi movies like Terminator, Matrix, Back to the future and if our future will look like any of these. It relates our current tech trends to bible prophecies and it is quite chilling actually. All the surveillance; the Internet and its future; RFID; robots in the future becoming humanlike and demanding rights as humans; UFOs and other parallel worlds; future of cars and energy; nano-technology; warfare; all about global warming and whether it is real and how it relates to the bible; and MUCH more, so much more if I were to list everything discussed in this book it would take too much room. I could go on but here is what you need to know: if you are interested in our future in terms of technology and environment issues and alternative energy and how it relates back to the bible then this is the book for you. You will be entertained and challenged; amazed and bewildered; shocked and maybe even outraged at some of the stuff Gansle says is coming down the pike in just a few short years. I highly recommend this book which is why I am giving it the full five stars, it is a can't-put-down must-read that blows me away more than any other book I've read on the subject.

E-Business is NOT easy, but it CAN be made simple.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2001-01-28
E-Business to the Power of 12: The Principles of. dotCompetition is a breakthrough! For a long time we've had the 4P's of marketing; now we have the 12 P's of E-Business.

In order to really understand and effectively manage anything, such as an electronic business, you must have a 'unified' model that everyone understands and is able to manage respectively. In other words, the business itself needs to be viewable in 'context' so that you can gauge where you stand at any given time and make smart management decisions accordingly. In this fast paced, totally accountable world of electronic business, this is the core to success.

Many companies today, tend to engage in e-business projects; ventures or transformation long before a unified business model and a context for both development and management is established. Many important steps such as learning, planning, and thorough strategy analysis are either skipped or rushed prior to execution; steps that will ultimately maintain alignment between business development, operations, management and marketing in an electronic environment. As a result, electronic enterprises, in particular, due to typically rapid evolution, pay a price for a long time to come trying to manage what becomes unmanageable.

Large and small enterprises alike are also sold e-business solutions prematurely, as "the" answer to their problems and often from vendors ill-equipped to best handle the job within the "context" of the e-business management strategy; something many enterprises simply do not have.

At a time when there is dependency on a host of outsourced companies to operate aspects of your business outside of core competencies, and assuming it's a solid business to be in the first place; ensuring that certain principles and phases of development are adhered to is vital to long term success.

Thomas Power, co founder of Ecademy.com, after thousands of interviews with Internet luminaries such as Dell, Gates, Bezos and Ballmer, successful e-business operators and the like, can help "power" your business with "E-Business to the Power of 12: The Principles of. dotCompetition. Not only are these principles powerful, they are also organized in such a way that they operate as a 'platform', on which you can develop an e-business management strategy and better streamline business development, operations, management and marketing in an electronic environment. You will now know where you stand, what many of your issues are and how to proceed.

Once you've read the book, you can interact with Thomas Power and co, along with e-professionals in major markets around the world at Ecademy.com. Learn, network and develop your e-business within the context of this principle-centered platform. Ecademy.com is the place to be if you're involved with electronic business.

A serious effort to transform the human future
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-04
Martin considers the problems facing Mankind now in the twenty- first century. He lists seventeen challenges. 1) The healing of the Earth, its climate and environment. 2) The problem of the Poverty and short brutal lives of a good share of mankind. 3) The challenge placed by Over- population and in his judgment the need to reduce human population. 4) The problem of Lifestyles, meaning the need for people to adopt more environmentally harmless lifestyles. 5) The need to prevent a War which could destroy Mankind. 6) The challenge presented by an irreversible Gloablism which must be constructed so as to allow local cultures to thrive. 7) The challenge presented by danger to the biosphere, the loss of species. 8)The challenge of Global Terrorism 9) The challenge of Creativity for the younger generation 10) The challenge presented by Disease and possible pandemics. 11) The challenge to increase the degree to which human beings realize their potential 12)The challenge presented by the Singularity the moment computer intelligence begins to feed on itself. The danger that this may get out of control 13) The challenge of Existensial Risk of mankind learning to ban unacceptable risks even if this means limiting certain kinds of scientific activity 14) The challenge presented by Transhumanism or the enhancement of human beings which may alter human nature , or possibly lead to Civilizations beyond anything we can imagine today 15) The challenge presented by an Advanced Civilization in which machines do the work and human beings have opportunities for creation beyond those they had before. 16) The challenge of 'Gaia' the earth's self- control system which we may catastrophically disrupt 17) The challenge of the Skill/ Wisdom Gap.
In his analysis Martin hopes to lead Mankind to take the necessary steps to ensure a remarkable future for itself one beyond what we can imagine for it now.

Useful study of Britain's 1975 referendum
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-21
These extremely useful books examine the 1975 referendum and look at the EU's economic and political effects. They are not written in EU jargon, unlike most books on the EU, usually semi-official.

The first volume studies the early history of the EU, the referendum itself, and the Labour government's manipulation of public opinion in the referendum campaign. It includes reflections by 16 participants in the Yes and No campaigns, and also copies of the two Yes pamphlets and the one No.

Various contributors point out that the EU is a machine for eliminating popular influences on policy, reversing all our democratic gains over the last two centuries. They show that the European Commission acts for, not against, capitalist `globalization'. They note that Thatcher forced through the 1986 Single Europe Act, which removed many vetoes and gave the EU powers over environment policy, letting the EU use the issue of climate change to add to its powers.

The second volume looks at the role and implications of referendums, and at the EU's effects on the Labour and Conservative parties, on the trade unions and on public opinion. The authors show how the trade unions are becoming incorporated into the EU capitalist state, and how the fraud of a `social Europe' has not saved one British industry or job from destruction.

The authors argue that the alternative to the EU is `the pursuit of Britain's wider global interests.' But the real alternative to the EU's embrace of global capitalism is not to embrace non-EU global capitalism, but to advance the British people's interests - not EU first, not world first, but Britain first.

The authors remind us that in November 2004, 77.9% voted against the EU/Government scheme for an assembly for the North-East region. This was hugely significant, the first time a part of the British people rejected an EU policy.

Last December, Blair pledged to back the German government's effort to resurrect the Constitution, which would destroy our democracy, self-rule and sovereignty. The working class is increasingly anti-EU, and the ruling class is increasingly pro-EU - a growing conflict.

Four new studies augment an already outstanding futures work
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-08-21
This sixth edition of the annual AC-UNU Millennium Project's State of the Future report continues its tradition of providing an essential foundation of information and ideas for all those working to predict and improve the human condition of the future. Its structure is unchanged, this year comprising a 100-page print version, containing executive summaries, and a 2,000-page CD-ROM, with complete analyses and background material. This year's work was directly supported by 340 scholars around the world, building on previous efforts over the years by 900 others. The previously identified 15 Global Challenges were re-examined, and new treatments prepared covering the year's developments. Four additional chapters discuss long-range global goals for 2050, counter-terrorism strategies, implications of future science and technology issues, and military requirements related to environmental security in 2010-2025. The State of the Future Index (a measure of the short term prospects for the course of the human condition) was updated, and 50 scenarios were added to the existing collection of around 450. The CD-ROM also contains the complete texts of a number of valuable previous Project works.

The State of the Future reports have become indispensable companions to scholars and policy makers throughout the world - the 2002 edition admirably fits that role.

Phenomenal Reference with a CD in the Back
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-02
This book, which includes a CD with a ton of additional information and visualization, is worth every penny of the asking price. It brings together global statistics, illustrations, and expert depictions of alternative scenarios.

Although it focuses primarily on Energy & Economies, it is closely tied in with achieving all of the Millenium Goals set by the Member Nations of the United Nations, and cacn easily be scaled up and out as more resources are applied.

The Earth Intelligence Network, a non-profit seeking to create the EarthGame as a public service, regards this specific effort as one of the best on the planet, a model for all of us, a starting point for all of us.

The most valuable part of the CD in my view are the seven global scenarios, but it contains a wealth of other information including bilbiographies and lists of organizations focused on ethics and on women and gender, among others.
