It is essential that you use the study guides to Dr. Elder's books after you have read them. I thought I had a great grasp on the principles he taught until I started on the study guides. I did excellent on the money management and record keeping but fell short in reading chart indicators. This study built up my confidence in several areas but sent me back to the original books to reread, study and ensure I got the lesson. The areas you will be tested on is organization, psychology, markets, trading tactics, money management & record keeping, case studies, and traders speak. Do yourself a favor and learn some lessons here, it will save you money in the markets.

Far better than I expected

I actually believe I got more out of the study guide than the accompanying book. Very very valuable and worth more than twice the price... I'd recommend it to everyone but especially to those new or having repeat issues of the same trading pitfalls.

Once you've passed the stage where you have a keyword or two for each card, you'll want this book. I was glad to see this back in print because I felt that it helped me tremendously in learning to create a story out of a reading and not just a bunch of cards. She offers advice on working without defined spread positions, on assigning cards to the events in a story as well as creating a story from the cards you have.

Initially, I have doubts on purchasing this book as i failed to find the previous edition: Super Tarot - New techniques to improve your reading. My guts feeling told me that both are the same book but of different publishers/ edition and thus I called my nearest bookshop and they confirmed with me on that.

There are examples given with the author interpretation version to help training and understanding reading techniques. The author really makes it very easy on how to overcome some difficulties one to narrate the cards together in meaningful flow by grouping, looking out for clues/signs and some important pointers. I even tested on my peers using just the Major Arcana method taught by the author. I asked them via SMS on mobile phone. Out of 15 readings I have given, 5 said very accurate; 4 said quite true; 3 claimed they don't know yet and the rest said not very correct.

Most importantly, I do feel that my reading skill has improved tremendously. I must say that a lot of practices still count and experiences (and with the intuition) will tell how to interpret the card meaning given in the book. Currently, I'm trying to use the whole pack to fine-tune my reading skill with court cards and Minor Arcana. It takes patience too and some willing guinea pigs to perfect the art.

The book opens to me that there are spreads available to suit what type of readings. Besides, there are many advices and suggestions from the author on how to tackle from. Thus, I strongly recommended this book to any tarot novices who have difficulties connecting each cards meaningfully and/or those who wish to fine-tune their reading skills.

This book is an excellent reference on the history and likely
direction of suprconductors. The author begins by defining the superconductor in terms of the ability of metals to carry electricity without the loss of energy. Numerous applications
of superconductors are provided. For instance, they may be utilized to store power or run trains as in the Japanese meglev
levitational train. The book describes the evolution of the
Kelvin absolute temmperature scale to articulate Absolute Zero.
The author describes important critical temperatures of
superconductors; such as Hg at 4.1K, Pb at 7.2K and the theory
that an increase in magnetic field results in a decrease of
critical temperature. The Meissner effect is described; wherein,
there is an expulsion of magnetic fields from the interior of a
superconductor. A phase change causes material to become
a superconductor. The goal of labs for the longer term is to find
materials that superconduct above temperatures where nitrogen
or N liquifies. New products; such as SQUIDS are superconductors which may be utilized to detect brain signals. In addition,
computer technology is creating superfast switches called
Josephson junctures; wherein, a thin layer of insulating material
is sandwiched between layers of a superconducting material.

When I first saw R. Winston, on the BBC TV show, I thought "this guy doesn't look superhuman", at least not in the sense that everyone would give to the word superhuman. And yet, this book - probably more than the tv show - explains precisely why modern Medicine makes us super-beings, not by turning us into some kind of X-men, but rather by using our natural body response to injuries or diseases and by boosting and helping our immune system. This book opened my eyes on this medicine at the opposite of ER tv shows. Great book !

I have this book and use it as a school social worker a lot with my 5th and 6th grade students. I'd say it is appropriate for 5th through 12th. When I don't have time to plan I grab this book! There are detailed lessons for discussing lots and lots of important topics. The other "Talk with Teens" book is also very good. I recommend them both!

A very insightful, intelligent, interesting, and FUN read. This book provides backgrounds on the history (or histories) of LSH and how they were influenced by culture and in some instances were able to deal with more taboo subjects than mainstream comics. Read this if you are a LSH fan, or a sci-fi fan, or a comic book scholar fan. Highly recommended.

Great Essays

The essays in this book cover just about everything in Legion history (except L.E.G.I.O.N. / R.E.B.E.L.S.). They vary in style and quality, but many are by themselves worth buying the book. Some are written by academics and others by fans.

There are big essays on Keith Giffen's run (Giffen even provides a quote on the back of the book) and on Paul Levitz's run. There's essays on Jim Shooter, the death and resurrection of Lightning Lad, on the architecture in the Legion, on science in the Legion, fashion in the Legion, women in the Legion, homosexuality in the Legion, race in the Legion, the early Legion's approrpriation of other material (from classics to popular movies), the Legion's teenage cruelty / superdickery, comparing the Legion to the revival of the Justice League, whether the Legion should age in their stories, the Amethyst saga and its importance in Legion history, the reboot Legion's themes, the role of adolescence in the Threeboot, and generational theory in the Threeboot. Only one author writes two essays, so there's 19 authors -- including Matt Fraction and Barry Lyga, who write the foreword and afterword, respectively.

The book is edited and has an introduction by Tim Callahan, who wrote Grant Morrison: The Early Years for the same publisher.

Yeah, it's pretty much a plethora of Legion, a celebration and analysis of the whole of Legion history. Whatever you like about Legion, there's something here for you, and you'll learn a lot along the way.

Recommended.

This is the most genius that I have ever seen compacted onto paper. Although completely deranged and lacking in grammar proficiency, Dr. Garfield, D.D.S. succeeds in being thorough in his treatise, as well as thoroughly entertaining and interesting for the entire 488 pages. The book is filled with complex diagrams of human and animal anatomy and gruesome illustrations of primitive dental "technology". I particularly enjoy the last chapter, entitled "The Future" in which Dr. Garfield predicts the future of mankind. The first page of this chapter displays a picture of two naked busty Polynesian women experimenting in a laboratory. (Although Dr. Garfield's book is about teeth, he somehow tends to mention breasts an awful lot.) Among Dr. Garfield's predictions for the future are: The elimination of eating or drinking, and therefore the need for bodily openings, which disappear courtesy of evolution; and the perfection of medical science, which renders medical doctors unnecessary....which will make room for new degrees to be earned, such as "Doctor of Infinite Happiness".

This is the sort of book that is worth tracking down at all costs, and if you are lucky enough to secure a copy, show it off proudly to all you believe are capable of grasping and appreciating such a magnificent work as this.

If anyone actually ever reads this review, it means that someone actually searched for this book besides myself.END

Perspectives on an Uncertain Future

Review Date: 2001-06-04
This is one in a series of "Strategy & Business" books from Booz-Allen & Hamilton, published by Jossey-Bass. All are first-rate and well-worth checking out. In this book, Joel Kurtzman edits a series of in-depth interviews of 12 of the most influential thought leaders during the last decade. Obviously, some will quibble with the number and/or with specific selections. However, although several may be unfamiliar to you, after you read the interviews I think you will agree with me that all 12 are eminently worthy. They are: Charles Handy, Minoru Makihara, Keshub Mahindra, C.K. Prahalad, John Kao, Paul M. Romer, Stan Shih, Norbert Walter, John T. Chambers, Warren Bennis, Gary Hamel, and Jean-Rene Fourtou. In the Foreword, Brian N. Dickie (president and COO, Booz-Allen & Hamilton) suggests that "the new agenda" for CEOs and their top[ teams (managing for growth, business process redesign for the next generation, and new organization structures) and then suggests that "the winners will be those CEOs who can integrate the new agenda with their own clear vision while simplifying the execution challenge and inspiring their organizations to perform beyond expectations." It is from this perspective that Kurtzman then provides the 12 interviews. None of them fully addresses all of the issues but together, the CEOs provide insights of substantial value to decision-makers at all levels of organizational configuration. Here are three brief excerpts, obviously taken out of context but nonetheless thought-provoking:

"With people scattered around the world, you really have to let them be on their own. The assignments are often difficult and you need them for specific purposes. Those purposes may change. That means you have to run the organization on the basis of professionalism and trust -- and subsidiarity." Charles Handy, Professor, London Business School, and author of The Age of Unreason and The Age of Paradox

"The management of creativity is more intimate [than the traditional management skill set that is appropriate to a large, complex industrial-era organization]. By that I mean that it deals with an individual's personal, psychological landscape. It deals with the way you create relationships. It deals with creating an atmosphere and environment that support the creative process. As a result, it is a management skill set that is inherently psychological and that encourages desired outcomes rather than demands those outcomes." John Kao, Harvard Business School, and author of Jamming

"What we have to do is work out a balance between tolerating some monopolies and monopoly profits -- since that's how we motivate people to discover new recipes -- with competition to keep prices low and distribute products widely. We encourage this competition by granting property rights that are partial or incomplete. In practice, what this means is that while in the physical economy with diminishing returns there are perfect prices, in the knowledge economy with its increasing returns there are no perfect prices." Paul M. Romer, Stanford Business School

Kurtzman has exceptional skills as both interviewer and editor, framing initial questions and then adjusting smoothly during the rigorous but informal exchange of responses. He guides each "thought leader" without imposing any of his own opinions. The result is that the reader is provided with direct access to how each of the 12 thinks as well as what each has to share about a given issue. Those who share my high regard for this book are urged to check out the other volumes in the "Strategy & Business" series from Booz-Allen & Hamilton. I also highly recommend Strategy + Business magazine of which Kurtzman served as editor-in-chief.
