Audio Book from Brillance Audio.Review Date: 2007-08-11
A RICHLY INTERPRETED READINGReview Date: 2003-09-10
The Sparrow women's gifts or liabilities, as some might wish to see them, began many years ago when a young girl who was inured to all pain entered a tiny settlement. Elinor, the first of her descendants, can tell a liar from a mile away. Her daughter, Jenny, can actually see people's dreams as they sleep. And, the next in line, Stella, is able to look into the future.
"The Probable Future" is aptly named. What does the future hold for a trio so abundantly blessed or cursed?

Good book for beginner in AJAXReview Date: 2008-10-29
I would recommending starting with this book, but If you've already been working on AJAX I would recommend ASP.NET AJAX Programmer's Reference.
Great Book for all web interface designersReview Date: 2008-02-08
A must read for AJAX developers!
ASP.NET AJAX is a free framework for quickly creating efficient and interactive Web applications that work across all popular browsers.
This book will teach you:
1) Create next-generation interfaces with reusable AJAX components.
Enhance existing pages using powerful AJAX controls with support for all modern browsers.
2) Access remote services and data from the browser without tons of complicated script.
3) Take advantage of the improved efficiency and ease of use in Visual Studio 2008, with its built-in support for ASP.NET AJAX, improved JavaScript support, and a new Web page designer interface.
It starts you off with a intro into asp.net AJAX library and moves into a light introduction with JavaScript. Then moves into the core of the AJAX functionality with using several examples of xmlhttprequest object and transferring data using both JSON and xml.
It then leads you to the next logical step of the calling web services and makes great use of the inherit asp.net members and profiling functionality ALL THROUGH JAVA SCRIPT. Amazing really no more calls backs to the server to find out if they are a member.
It then leads you into the Next big step of the asp.net AJAX functionality which is the control toolkit. This is a absolutely free web controls that just work and christen does a great job at showing you how to do this in easy steps.
It wraps with showing the the asp.net futures section that is iffy at best. It uses an xml based approach to forming JavaScript and although very cool I don't believe will reach the production release.
Overall this book rocks and should be read by all interface designers

Hands on and helpful--a must haveReview Date: 2003-12-02
I found the author's advice to be extremely helpful, practical and easy to digest. Most chapters contain a "back to basics" section which will help people who need a primer on certain retirement planning topics. The author then moves forward with more sophisticated advice.
What I liked most was that the author recognizes that each of us has his or her own comfort level when it comes to investments. He also understands that the early years of retirement are stressful and sometimes require us to reinvent ourselves.
Basic Primer on Preparing for RetirementReview Date: 2003-09-05
Abromovitz, an attorney and financial educator, provides readers with a well-written explanation of the key components of developing, protecting, and rebuilding decimated retirement accounts. He recommends a pro-active hands-on retirement planning approach. In this 224-page, nineteen chapter book, Abromovitz covers how to make relatively safe investments that will continue to grow, how to plan for health issues and large medical bills, how to maximize your social security benefits, and how your financial safety can be improved by investing in stocks, real estate, annuities and 401(k)s.
There is no earth-shattering advice in this book. However, the author provides straightforward advice that can help individuals get and stay focused on the right track so that they can accomplish their retirement dreams.
Most individuals have not really thought about all aspects of the retirement process and have let the chips fall where they may. The devastating bear market of 2000-2002, unfortunately changed the retirement landscape for millions of individuals whose retirements have been postponed and many potential retirees have been forced to keep working to make ends meet. The reason for this was that most individuals did not understand or consider the risks of investing in the stock market.
By reading, studying, and implementing the wisdom in this book, readers will put the odds in their favor to obtain a secure and peaceful retirement. This book should be required reading by all individuals, whether or not they are approaching retirement since the advice provided will help all readers better manage their financial issues.

A Dynamic Contribution!Review Date: 2000-08-24
The case studies exemplify the diversity and range of land conservation options that are possible using conservation easements and add to the richness of the book.
While the reading may be legalistic to academic at times, the diversity of presentations serve to enhance this very rich volume of information. "Protecting the Land" serves as the first in-depth insight to the legal workings of conservation easement legislation across the country. This book is an ABSOLUTE MUST for all those "out in the field" as well as those who may be interested in learning more about the legal dimensions of easement enabling legislation, its history, how easements have been used, as well as a look to the future of land conservation in the US.
From the point of view as an academic, I also believe that this book will be extremely useful to those teaching in the legal arena that deals with conservation easements, as well as to those who are teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in resource conservation and environmental policy.
The caliber of contributors to the volume speaks for itself, from Steve Small to Todd Mayo and Bill Hutton, among others writing on the legal aspects of conservation enabling laws. And on the ground there are numerous contributing authors who have decades of knowledge and experience behind them, including Tom Daniels, Dennis Collins, Chuck Roe, and Julie Ann Gustanski. Those from academe tease out strands that have for too long gone unteased. Jack Wright for example brings both experience from the academic and practitioners perspectives, as do Daniels and Gustanski.
While the volume is not for the lighthearted reader, it addresses the subject matter extensively, and succinctly.
Overall I give this book 5 stars, it is well written, well documented, and provides the best single volume I have seen in more than two decades of experience with land trusts and the phenomenal tool we call conservation easements.
