Meta-Evolution: The Future of LifeReview Date: 2001-06-22
The five extended chapters review the evidence for interpreting all phenomena, including- biological, social, technological and religious processes in evolutionary terms; finally extrapolating current trends into future outcomes.
Although a number of authors have attempted to extend the evolutionary paradigm to include areas such as behaviour, ideas and social development, none has attempted such a rigorous all-encompssing analysis.
The evidence as presented is compelling without being technical or tedious, allowing non-academic readers ready access to this exciting thesis, with immense philosophic as well as scientific significance for future generations.

Today's 'conservatives' don't know much about conservingReview Date: 2003-11-20
C. A. Bowers opens up one of the most crucial debates that we should lead if we are serious about an ecologically sustainable future. We generally shy away from this discussion because of its potential pitfalls, misunderstandings and a tradition of abuse of the term 'conservatism'.
I believe that Bowers' book is hugely important because it emphasises throughout the concept of mindfulness, as opposed to preconceived convictions. It challenges us 'to rethink our traditional political categories' and to question what the media and politicians want to make us believe. We have to learn to step out of the box because the traditional political vocabulary simply is not fit to cope with the sustainability challenge.
The central question of the book is 'What do we need to conserve in order to have a more sustainable future and just world order?' This clearly calls for a complex answer and is also arguably the most important question to be asked if we want to turn our destructive, exploitative, overdeveloped and overconsuming global world order into something which can sustain itself within the limits of the ecosphere.

A view from the inner circle : an insider's report.Review Date: 2003-12-19
I was working for New Careers Corp. at the time the head office was moved to
Kamsack. I remember how shocked everyone was. But it was only from reading MacKinnon's book that I found would that Minister
Martin argued against the move. With expenses of a million for a building, and $200,000 telephone and transportation costs,
it is no wonder that Janice MacKinnon moved the New Careers office back to Regina when She became Minister.
I highly recommend this book.
A fair and balanced look at her time in GovernmentReview Date: 2003-08-10
I was impressed with her non-partisan look at the Blakeney and Devine governments. She protrayed their intentions and results fairly and balanced. Her look at her own political career was enjoyable as well as she documented the struggles and tensions within the Romanow government and the challenges that she had to make in her own department. If you are a fan of Canadian history, you will want to read this amazing and fun book to read.

A tale of two ballpayers...Review Date: 2008-03-06
Why is a book such as this one absolutely necessary? Let's look at the lives of two professional basketball players. In early January 2008, former NBA player "J.R." Isaiah Rider was arrested on a no-bail warrant. Following a dispute between Mr. Rider and his cab driver, the police discovered he had two warrants out for his arrest. His troubles with the law go back years, and he is hardly the first pro athlete to have his name in the paper for breaking the law. But it is always sad to see someone just throw their life away (SF Chronicle January 7, 2008).
Baron David, on the other hand, came to camp for the Golden State Warriors with a new attitude. Davis was upset about his contract and could have come to camp with a very bad attitude. But he had several conversations with the great Jerry "Logo" West, who basically told him how fortunate he was to be a professional basketball player and that Mr. Davis should "Be positive. Just go up there, shut up and play." Mr. Davis is now enjoying the best season in a stellar career. (SF Chronicle January 17, 2008.]
March Isenberg stresses honesty and integrity in this book. And he walks the talk. Many Amazon book posts have several 5 star reviews that just happen to come out a day or two after the book is published (sometimes the same day; sometimes even before!). You check those reviews and several of the writers have not reviewed another book - before or since. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Well, this book has been out 4 months and this is the first review and you may rest assured it is 100% my work with no input or suggestion of any kind from the author!
That's the way it should be. And if you have the good sense to read this book, you'll learn how the game of life should be played: The right way.
