I first heard a reference to the book in a sermon, so I went looking for it. David Dunn writes delightfully of the various ways he has brought joy to the lives of others by simply thinking of and acting upon ways to serve others. If we would follow the principles set forth in this little volume, the world would be a much happier place.

David Dunn captures the essance of what humans strive for in perfecting our race. By giving yourself away you gain the greatest gift of all. It's all about heart, and sharing ours, and he captures the very core of the matter in this delicious story. I found the book, or shall I say it found me, just when I needed to remember that the greatest thing we give is ourself & our attention to anyone or anything. Blessings to this author for getting it & sharing it so wonderfully!

I have kept this book as a favorite in my library for the last 10 years. It offers ways we can give more of ourselves without dipping into a piggy-bank or feeling taken advantage of. I highly recommend reading this little book! It is a quick read with humor, joy and love springing from each page. The book was written in the 1940s and the principles still apply to today's society. That alone tells of the truths offered within its pages. PositiveResults.com

This book was an extremely interesting read. It gives you lots to think about in our computer-centric world. Cochrane may come off as a little odd at first, but the more you read the more interesting points he brings up. It gives the reader a perspective that you wouldn't get from the more mainstream tech editorials. Definitely worth the read.

Insights on Business Technology

Review Date: 2004-07-18
This series of essays from global thought leader Peter Cochrane is required reading for business technologists. Cochrane addresses the issues we think about-and don't think about-in ways that offer new insights into everyday challenges. His observations on giving presentations in "Salesmanship" will make people think twice about getting up in front of a room. These essays, which cover everything from security to online shopping to management to mobility (and beyond), are infused with creativity. Cochrane's ability to see around corners, and to look at the world just a bit differently in ways that ultimately make sense, will re-invigorate thinking and leave us better prepared for the next challenge.

Kick-start your brain!

Review Date: 2004-10-05
I'm not sure how Cochrane can contain such a diversity of thought within a single mind but I'm very thankful that he can. The broad sweep of these essays has truly opened my eyes to the inexorable and interwoven position of technology in all aspects of our lives. Technology is not "out there" it's "in here". I feel more awake, better educated and perhaps a little afraid. Read this book to kick-start your brain, evolve your own "uncommon sense" and get involved in the dialogue. Cochrane is expert at illuminating our shadowy future. The issues addressed are some of the most important of our times. I highly recommend this book if you want to know what technology "means".

Wonderful Snapshots

Review Date: 2004-06-21
As I rule I do not care for essay collections but I found this book to be completely worthwhile. Starting with a snapshot of his own educational issues, Cochrane opened my eyes to new possibilities in learning, and how to share ideas with others. Subsequent articles on topics that I was familiar with became fresh ideas and I found that I was not only able to follow (prehaps for the first time) but actually appreciate the various nuances on topics that I normally would not consider. The book uses both text and visuals to make clear some of the technical points and helps tie together issues ranging from learning to technology and all with a brilliant focus on business management.

A delightful and easy read on the composition of the afterlife. What makes it of special value is the emphasis on the practical applications that we can make here and now on how to emphasize our spiritual priorities over our earthly priorities. Inspiring and motivational.

This book is well written and documented with a wealth of information gathered on the subject of the afterlife. The author holds true to his writing style of easy to read and understand language for the average individual. As with all his work, thus far, it's based upon the information from the Edgar Cayce Readings as well as other informative documentation.
I highly recommend this book to anyone with questions regarding the afterlife.

I found this book to be an excellent source of information re: the afterlife. The author describes information that was received in various forms, such as near-death experiences, channeling & after-death communication, and draws heavily on many Edgar Cayce readings.

Many important insights that were gained from those on the Other Side are discussed, including: 1)Our thoughts become "things", and have a major effect on ourselves & others; 2)Where we find ourselves after death depends, at least in part, on our beliefs and how we choose to live our current life; 3)We are never alone - our loved ones and guides are always around us; 4)We are not seperate beings, instead we are all interconnected - etc...

I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the afterlife &/or Edgar Cayce readings.

As a certified past-life therapist, I realize that Barbara Lane has put into words what I have instinctively known for years about accessing clues to past life memories. It is no accident that we tend to be attracted to or fascinated by specific people, places, occupations, or to scenes from movies, books, etc. Ms. Lane's book is insightful and very well written. I believe this book will be most helpful for anyone who is curious about his or her past-life history.

Great starter journal!!

Review Date: 2008-01-14
My friend turned me on to the idea of writing down my thoughts and dreams in journals to one day share with my future husband, and immediately I was hooked. I have since filled five journals to present to him on our wedding night.

This journal was the one that started it all. I bought two and filled both in about a year. It was a great way to start the habit of journaling not simply for myself but for another person to one day read and appreciate. The journal itself is beautiful and very romantic, with gorgeous pictures scattered throughout. The author also includes starter topics at the beginning of each page to help inspire you. Some women might like this; I personally did not. I followed the topics for the first journal and then just crossed them out and went with my own train of thought for the next one. For one thing, each prompt only gives you ONE page to fill, which isn't nearly enough space for the prolific writer, so you may end up crossing some out anyway. For another, the topics repeat themselves, which is tiring after a while.

Overall, though, this journal is highly recommended for any woman who wants to chronicle her dreams to eventually give to her "One". All I can say is pick up this journal, pick up a pen, open your heart chakra and let your creativity flow. Your future husband will one day thank you for this gift from the soul. (At least, I very much hope mine will!)

I am a total sap & love romance. I saw this book and thought this would be an amazing gift to someday give my husband on our wedding day.

I purchased the journal and was very pleased. There are beautiful wedding pictures on every few pages of a dress, couple holding hands, couple at the altar, etc. VERY BEAUTIFUL. It provides you just enough lines to express your innermost dreams and hopes. With prompts like:
*Today I prayed for you that...
*My hopes for our future are...
*Today I wanted to tell you...
*When I think about you I...

I can't put it down. I play some soft wedding music at night and light candles, pray, and write wherever I feel like writing. I plan on keeping this a secret from my boyfriend and giving it to him on our wedding day. It will make a beautiful gift to him, one that our children and families can look back on.

Love it!

This debut thriller is a standout. Haunting and mesmerizing, it grabbed me and kept me up all night reading it. I was drawn into the minds of the characters who have to go with their lives while dealing with their changed world. Yet the author's touches of humor alleviate the intensity of the suspense.
Birnbaum displays a superior talent in a first novel, and we can only hope for more to come.

If you've ever worried about bio terrorism, reading this will interfere with your sleep. The plot is terrifying in its simplicity and plausability. A page turner that is a must read for anyone who wonders if this could really happen - it can. The author clearly understands the medical underpinnings and has woven his medical knowledge into the plot as well as the psyche of his characters - makes for a very interesting read.

I LOVE this series! I was looking for some chapter books to read aloud to my 7 year old son, who isn't quite as motivated to read as I would like him to be (do all moms say this??), and I stumbled across this series. Funny, funny stuff. He loves the plots, is really intrigued, and can't wait to read every night. Only issue is that he gets so excited for these books right before bedtime that it's hard to get him to settle back down. Well-written and just plain fun to read. Suddenly my son realizes that books can be lots-o-fun!

My daughter liked the first two books in this series so much, I read them too.
This book is not at all what I expected, but I liked it as well.
Our Humble Yet Rather Desperate Narrator takes us on a journey with Pretty, Freekin, and Scary back to Franklin/Freekin's hometown, where no questions can be asked (a fact that led to Franklin's premature, mysterious death).
This is a story that has to be read to be believed.
We would also like to petition the International Order of Narrators to apologize to and welcome back Chris P. Flesh to their order -- and while they're at it, give Chris a nice plaque AND a shiny medal.

A great book for experienced nurses or folks like me, who are just starting in the profession. Annette Vallano's book answered questions about nursing I wouldn't have even known to ask. I'm changing careers after twenty-five years as a teacher, and this workbook/resource book contained the best career advice I could have received. It gives a realistic, honest, nuts and bolts picture of what nursing is like today, both the good and the bad. I have a head start in how to be assertive and pro-active in finding and creating the nursing position that will suit my skills, interests and life-style. I also understand some of the work related pitfalls can happen and how to avoid them. Finally, the book has a heart and soul that gives meaning and importance to the unique abilities we each have to offer in our work as a nurse.

Pre-writing my responses on a separate sheet of paper, and then re-writing my edited responses into Your Story helped me have enough room for some of my more lengthy responses. Kind of a hassle, but worth it!

I am happy to see that I can now give other family members this book as a gift.

After Death is a book that can offer not only solace but meaning to anyone facing death, their own or that of a loved one. We are used to thinking of dying as an unalterably lonely experience, but with this book as a companion it need not be. There is great comfort in discovering the depth and range of how our fellow humans imagine, understand, and, in some cultures, even know the after-death.

As important as the content, to me, is the author's voice-a voice of great warmth, compassion, and intelligence. As one reads this book, one feels more and more deeply the sense of human kinship in this journey-a profound antidote to loneliness and fear. I found this to be a truly transformative work.

This readable, page turner engages the reader from the start in asking the fundamental question of life, what begins after death? The author is widely traveled and well-versed in comparative religions and belief systems. Written in an anecdotal and open style, the author states no positions but offers different views from Native American philosophies to Brazilian religious beliefs. A must read for anyone with the smallest sense of curiosity about how our global neighbors wrestle with the place/voyage after death. Great gift for New Agers to seniors to skeptics and saints
