Great general advice

Casino Gambling the Smart Way is a must read for both veteran and new gamblers. If you are the sort that beleives in systems, or believes that 'red is due' after a long run of black, or if you are the sort that chases your loses, this book may cure you of that. If you know better, you might still enjoy the anecdotes, which are pretty fun to read. However, don't expect much concrete advice on how to play any casino games, or much in the way of analysis of any particular games.

I give it three stars: although the book reads like a disconnected set of articles for a gambling magazine, and perhaps that is where it came from, it is still worth checking out so you can avoid major losses at the casino.

Easily digestable tidbits of great knowledge

I have not read a great deal of gambling literature, but I really enjoyed this book, which I borrowed from my local library before a 4 day trip to Vegas. As a rookie gambler, I am sure that I saved some money because of this book. I loved the practical knowledge such as not to gamble at the airport and some of the stories and advice that is given out in a friendly manner. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is planning a trip to the casino anytime soon.

A Must Read Before Gambling

I had never considered buying a book on gambling. I'm not a pro and have no intention of every being one. I go on vacation and gamble for fun. Right before a recent trip to Vegas, a friend at
work told me that I had to read this book before I went. I decided to give it a try. Boy, was she right. I found the book to be well written, humorous and most importantly informative for the non-gambler. I didn't have to know anything about gambling to understand Mr. Glazer's book. It was a good read. Not too many books are both funny and educational. This one is. I liked how each chapter was complete in itself. I went with a different mind set. Instead of taking money to lose, I took money to spend. Just changing my attitude seemed to relax me. I have always wanted to but been too intimated to try blackjack. After reading this book, I gave up my losing slots and gave it a try. Mr. Glazer's chart was there to back me up when I needed it. I would recommend everyone read this book before venturing into the casinos.

A book that will save/earn you much more than its cost

Hi,

I'm Andy Glazer, the author of Casino Gambling the Smart Way. You can read what I wrote in 1999 about this book elsewhere on the site.

It's two years later now, and I have a somewhat different perspective. Casino Gambing the Smart Way is a good but not great book. The good news is, I feel that way mostly because my standards have gone up. I'm quite sure it will be worth somewhere between 5-20,000 times the cover cost to most people. It's also pretty funny.

I'll be writing more books soon, a wave on poker first, actually, but this one is an excellent start into the right philosophy to take into the casino. There is also a mistake in the blackjack chart, about the proper way to play a hand of 12. The one page in the book I didn't get to proof and voila.

I'm more advanced in my craft now, but CGTSY will still be a good, easy and valuable read.

Soooo, you're ready to hit the casino and make your fortune, huh? Well, as this book describes in detail, the sucess or failure of your outing will be largely influenced by your mindset. You will not learn any unique trade secrets here. But, if you invest some time with this book, you will learn how to get the most out of your trips and, hopefully, avoid losing your shirt. I highly recommend this book. Good luck...

I read this book to children in first grade and they LOVED IT!! The children thought that this book was so hilarious. The book did such a great job incorporating money and counting into it. The illustrations were awesome as well, the pictures kept the children's attention while I was reading the book. I kept a tally of how much the pigs found and where they found the money. The children loved helping me keep track and they all participated in naming all the different locations of where the pig family kept the money. I do recommend this book for a circle or group reading, the children will love it!!

More a math book than a money book

Review Date: 2008-08-05
Although this book incorporates currency into the story line, it is primarily a book with a math exercise. It does not really teach children about money in the grander sense. Children just learning the denominations of various coins and dollar bills may find something new in this story, but it wouldn't be my first choice to introduce the subject. There is also a restaurant menu with prices that could potentially be used as a teaching tool.

The plot is simple: A family of pigs discovers the refrigerator is bare when it is time for dinner, so they hunt all over the house for loose change and then go out to eat at a restaurant. At the end of the story, you are asked to figure out how much money they found (addition), how much they spent (multiplication and subtraction), and what is left. I'm not sure how the title "Pigs Will Be Pigs" really fits in with the story other than the fact that hunger motivates them to search for money.

I found the illustrations to be colorful, but busy, and not terribly engaging. The text is also unremarkable. It is easy enough to read aloud, but the font might deter beginning readers. My own son, age 7, didn't care for the book and didn't ask to hear it again (a real test at our house), so this one is going back to the library.

I and the kids I read this too enjoyed it. I thought it had a cute storyline with the pigs needing money to eat. This book provides a good introduction to give math an everyday meaning and relate it to a real-life scenario. The kids laughed as the pigs went frantic trying to find money and ordering food. The menu was very cute and this brings in background experience with kids ordering from menus, which can lower anxiety about learning a math lesson about money.

I read this book to a group of kindergarten students. Right now they are learning about money just coins they know penny, dime and nickel. Some of the students were able to point out the coins and do some of the adding with the pig family. But majority of them just enjoyed the pictures and the storyline. They were unable to follow the hidden math problem. But overall it is a fun story to read with the students.

A very creative way to teach money concepts. I liked the way the book reviews the way to make change. I read this to a group of 3rd graders. I don't know that they found the book entertaining, but it did help them review money. I think 2nd graders would probably enjoy the story more, but may not understand all of the math concepts as well as the third graders.
I thought the part with the pigs trying to figure out what they could buy etc was a great way to show children how important it is to understand money. Coin especially can be difficult for children (a quarter is the same as two dimes and a nickel, etc).
I would definitely use this book as a review, or an extention to a lesson, not an introduction to money.

A short, concise version of what personal shopping is all about. This is not the textbook version of personal shopping, but the "cliffnotes" version so that is why I'm giving this only 4 stars. If you want to train to become a personal shopper, then you should enroll in a course, if they have one. In most cases, you have to apply and get accepted into a personal shopper program at stores. That can be tough so this book comes in handy if you want to look at alternatives to the store programs.

I'm a senior in high school with my own personal shopping business. I began selling Avon at school, but wanted to branch out. So I started personal shopping at the end of my junior year with the help of my parents who read this book. they're in business, but wanted to know a little more about personal shopping. I read the book, too. quick read. not bad since i'm doing well. I know how to put together outfits and I already know how to sell so this little book is all I need.

What a find. I have a whole new appreciation for personal shoppers, knowing how much work goes into selecting an item. I liked how this book talks about corporate personal shopping and opening a personal shopping business. I love to shop. I just needed a good book that showed me the ropes on how to start my own business in it. At less than $5, this is one of the best business books I've found.

Let me start with saying I have not read this item yet, so I do not know the worthiness of it's content, but when I took it out if the box and it was printed backwards, it made me not too excited to dive right in and read.

Pay attention people, this has the makings of a HOME MADE booklet, it is unprofessionally put together, not stoked. And not worth the money I paid for it.

I recently bought this book for my Mom on Mother's Day, and when she opened the package I was livid to find out that the book that cost $60.00!!! was no more than a soft copy with 50 or so pages worth of reading! My Mom did enjoy it, but she said it was mostly full of info you can learn on HGTV for free. So in closing, not a bad read, but Way To Overpriced!

Flip That House with FAUX: How to Have Fun Fixing and Flipping Houses and Make More Money
This book has wonderful full page pictures in brilliant colors. It could even be a coffee table book it is so pretty. It also is a Habitat For Humanity Project that shows what can be done to a blah house to make it a showplace for friends and relatives. The story of this house and how it was done has a lot of family appeal and poignancy. It is a story of how a family and friends pulled together through adversity and sadness to make a thing of beauty and joy. My favorite picture is the koi pond. I've always wanted one and now know I can have a faux koi pond. This book would make a great Christmas gift.

This book has several recipies which he call's C-4. this is not C-4 it's the same mixture timothy mcveigh used 2000 lbs of to blow up the building in Oklahoma city. it's fertilizer and nitromethane. i don't blow stuff up but i tell you what, Ragnar Bensen's book sure doesn't make me feel comfortable. i wouldn't want ANYONE making this stuff anywhere near me! if you want to die waste your money on this book, and some ammonium nitrate and some nitromethane and then mix em together and smear it all over your head and hit yourself in the face with a hammer. it won't detonate but you'll definitely realize what a dumbass you are.

Look, the reason people want books like these is because they believe that at some point in the future they will need to make explosives outside the law. "New and Improved C-4" probably met that need at one time, but as of this writing most of the "easy to find" chemicals mentioned in the book have become pretty hard to get. You can bet that if explosives are outlawed, the chemicals to make them with will be too. Ragnar points out in his book that nitromethane and ammonium nitrate both age and become unsuitable for use in explosives. So when these are outlawed, where are you going to get them? Wouldn't it be more prudent then, to write a book on how to steal explosives from the people who are allowed to have them? Why bother stealing nitrate and nitromethane? Go for the already useable substance; explosives. This book simply prompted me to get my explosives manufacturing license so I could lay hands on these chemicals and make some noise. Although four hundred dollars is too much for this book, I would pay one hundred for it, because there are some pretty pleasant surprises in it, and you probably could make a few of the explosives without too much trouble. I think the key ingredient is blasting caps. If you can get some, buy this book, but not for an inflated price ($400). DO NOT attempt to make blasting caps. That would be stupid. Get a license, buy some caps, and have some fun. By the way, the hot tub explosive will exite you at first, until you go to the store and find out that the key ingredient is quickly disappearing from market. I've tried to be honest in this review, and I hope it's helpful. I hope people trying to sell this book aren't too mad at me, but come on, four hundred dollars?

This was in no way worth any of the money I paid for. It gave general information on how to open a business. There was little to nothing discussed about the particulars of being a tour operator. And what was discussed was plain common sense. I have since purchased a number of books for a few dollars more that were light years better than this.

If I could rate it 0 stars I would. I recently purchased this book and can say that it was not worth the low price. Even though it will only take you all of 15 minutes to read this book, those are 15 minutes you went get back. This book is about as basic as could possibly be and seems more on the level of a "How To" guide for a second graders "Career Day" book report. It is so basic it is useless. Avoid it and spend your money elsewhere.

Good book for someone who need only basic tour planning and budgeting education. I do not recommend if you are in a tour college program to go work for bigger tour company.

I have been in the jewelry making business for over 20 years. I teach jewelry making classes on a weekly basis. One of my students brought this book into class and I found it to be very informative.

Okay, so all I can say about Mongopop's review is "DUH". It says the book is for PROFIT...of course the book is going to focus on the business aspect for the majority of the book.

I come across many people that just do not have a creative talent or the ability to grasp concepts. Again...DuH....the book is helping people that probably already have a good base of knowledge about jewelry making. The book includes 8 year old instructions, because most beginnners NO MATTER HOW OLD are at that level. This is a new concept.

Anyway, I just wanted to comment that I was SO disturbed by MONGOPOP's lack of intelligence...I just had to make a comment.

The book is great...Do not let this one review steer you away from a book that will definately help you.

It really scares me that some people will go out of their way to post negative views. I wonder if Mongopop has ever given a positive review. I doubt it.

This is not much of either type of book jewelry or doing craft type home biz. The only thing about this books title is to sell books to people that don't know much about either of the main items in the title. If you know some about either this tome will not help in any case. You can get the copyright type stuff from the Gov for free, and the legal stuff from your library. Also the laws governing a small biz are so locally written check again with your local library. I do own it and will be trying to off load it.

"Make Money Doing What You Love"....That is what this book was written for. It was NOT to teach you how to bead. One should already be skilled before attempting to sell their creations or to even think about starting a business. I found it to be informative and helpful, as did the people that I teach. It was easy to understand and well written. I'm pleased to have found this book through Amazon.com. Thank-You. BB

I found this book extremely helpful in getting started in real estate investment. It included helpful tips and the chapters flowed together in a comprehensive guide. Definitely worth the money. I have spent more $$ on other books that were nowhere near as helpful. I highly recommend this to other people who are interested in getting started in flipping properties. As you can tell from his successful real estate investing, he obviously practices what he preaches. This book isn't meant to be a complete guide to real estate investing. You need to do your own homework, too, which the other reviewers obviously have not done.
