Superbly biblical and balanced!!!Review Date: 2003-11-06
This book has an important message for the believer who feels that he is sentenced to being a second-class citizen in the Kingdom of God simply because he finds his daily calling in the secular world. If he is bored and frustrated with the work that God has given him to do, he will find here the path to joyful fulfillment. It's truly transforming to discover that the secular is sacred when God puts it into your hand, and that in working for that earthly employer, one is serving the Lord Christ. This book proves that there is no scriptural authority for the belief that serving God in business is any less spiritual than serving God in full-time ministry.
With chapters like:
-No One Can Serve Two Masters;
-Assignment:
Babylon;
-Up on the Lampstand;
-The Daily Grind;
-Trimming the Lamps;
-Glowing without Glaring (a terrific chapter);
-Light
Housekeeping;
-Secrets of a Light Heavyweight;
-The Added Things;
-The Rest Areas;
-The Church in the Workplace;
and
-Help Wanted: Spiritual Grownups (another great chapter),
this book is a God-send, and I can't believe that no one
has ever reviewed it.
It's a gem among gems, and it can be found on-line for under $2.00. So far I haven't been able to find any other book he has written which has addressed this area, but Larry Peabody surely has influenced some other authors in this regard, and he has given myself a great deal to think about and apply.
I can't recommend this book highly enough, and I'd give it 10 stars if I could!!! A treasure to be had!!

Can the bible really contain a code that modern computer progams have detectedReview Date: 2007-07-01
The author makes a compelling case for finding a code in the bible with compter software. He discusses the often presumptios claims of others who he feels have not documented the accuracy of thier claims. Very well written and compelling.

Two small examples from the book: Instead of looking at Bible-reading as an interaction between text and reader, we should include the role of the Holy Spirit as indispensable. Instead of merely seeing God's role in inspiring the Scriptures via the writers, we should value God's role as the illuminator of the Scriptures to the readers.
Cover to cover, it is an awesome book Pinnock has written, and should be read and understood by every critic of fundamentalist beliefs. It takes a great mind to get past the modernist framing of what the Bible is all about, but it takes an even greater mind to put all of that cross-worldview understanding into words as Pinnock has done in this amazing opus!
