This is the authoritative source for all the artwork and posters of Jules Cheret, who perfected color lithography in the late 1800's. There are a number of color slides of original Jules Cheret posters plus excellent descriptive information to help one identify a suspected Jules Cheret poster. The catalog is by theme or advertiser without an index or table of contents to help one located the exact page where, let's say, Moulin-Rouge or Olympia might start. This does then force scanning to find the start of the catagory one might want - an inconvenience. In spite of this, once you discover the catagory area, the material is informative and precise enough to help with identification.

Thank goodness it is a practical manual. I can't imagine how a theoretical manual would read; interesting no doubt. Since the emphasis is on common sense, I am going to take a higher view that is an improving book and not simply another crypto anti-Fabian tract: one designed to break the power of encroaching trade-unionism (however sound an idea that might have been at the time). I am stuck at the similarities between this book and D.C. Beard's book, "The American Boy's Handy Book." Both are in the style of "what to do and how to do it." With the bouquet of DIY and home improvement infused in the American culture like an enormous teabag; Earl Grey of course - with maybe a double shot of bergamot, a gentleman of leisure would no doubt profit from improving the shining moments of directed perusal through the pages of this small tome if they could only rouse themselves to take the opportunity for self-improvement. The instructions of painting in oil and distemper were eyebrow-raising to say the least. One could only wonder of reaction of the late Victorians and early Edwardians as they read this book. What would Lord Baden Powell think?

The book covers a lot of ground and there are some great suggestions about working a second job, dealing with being laid off and a lot of other money making (and money keeping) techniques. Greenblatt has taken a lot of different money management ideas including his deep background in working in a lot of different vocations and blended them into a pretty good book for getting out of debt and managing one's money. Recommended.

The book was about a girl named Michelle. She was going to get a pen pal in school. She hoped that her pen pal would think the same as she and like the same things as she does. But, every time she was assigned a pen pal, Michelle wouldn't care because the pen pal had a different personality. Finally, she got the right pen pal and was very happy!

great for kids having a hard time learning opposites, or just learning how to identify things. clear pictures, clear words. my brother is autistic and he loved this book, it helped him a lot. he first read it probably almost 10 years ago and he still talks about it. he even got a new copy of it for christmas last year he loved it so much. i'm a teacher's assistant at a special education school and i'm planning on using it in my class. i definitely reccomend it. it's a wonderful book.

Pvt. Wars is a splendid, maginificent playwrite. It , like many other plays, doesn't read very well. But I myself performed the part of Gately and it was a wonderful play. I think that anyone who in interested in acting should atleast read this play

Excelent mysteries. 3 Novelettes and 2 short stories. Three entertaining murder mysteries, 1 theft, and 1 portential murder. Ellery does it again with style.

Joel R. Beeke, a graduate of Westminster Theological Seminary, has provided the modern reader with an extensive survey of the English Reformation's legacy of the doctrine of assurance. With keen insight into the writings of the period, he traces the doctrine through English Puritanism and its parallel in the Netherlands, commonly called, "The Dutch Second Reformation." He divides the book into three sections: 1. Assurance Prior to the Westminster Assembly, 2. Assurance from the Westminster Assembly to Alexander Comrie, and 3. Comparison of English Puritanism and the Dutch Second Reformation on Assurance. I was at once awed and inspired and found much food for thought. Anyone interested in vital, experiential, Christianity, ought to acquire this book and read it diligently. As Dr. Beeke concludes, "Christ shall ultimately win the day in believers through the instrument of faith" (p. 285). Also helpful is his 69 page bibliography of primary and secondary sources. In my estimation, this book should not only be read and re-read, but recommended at every opportunity. Ian H. Murray, former editor of the Banner of Truth Trust, said Beeke's work is "A long-needed and outstanding work on the subject of assurance...ofpermanant importance for preachers and students." I might as well add historians to Murray's list, as this book is fundamentally important in uderstanding the history of Christian thought on this point.

Don Fiene, a professor of Russian language and literature, began putting together this bibliography of works by and about Robert Crumb in 1979. He examined hundreds of Crumb's works, tracking down their original appearances and reprintings, and solicited the help of dozens of people who were either fans, acquaintances, or collaborators of Crumb. Characteristically, Crumb himself declined to help out, although he did give the final draft a once-over. He also contributed a funny introductory note in which he worries that Fiene might one day shoot him just to put an end to the need to update the bibliography.

Fiene's checklist is an absolutely indispensible tool for anyone with a serious or scholarly interest in the work of R. Crumb. It's divided into four sections: works by Crumb, beginning with juvenalia dating back to 1950; works about Crumb, including general articles and specific reviews; an exhaustive index that features all Crumb characters; and an extremely detailed chronology of Crumb's life. All of this information is incredibly useful. Moreover, the entire checklist is sprinkled with ink panels from Crumb's work, as well as a color centerpieced story, "Let's Get Outta Here!"

That's the good news. The bad news is that the checklist stops in December 1980. Yep. Almost 30 years ago. There's a crying need for someone to take on the enormous task of updating Fiene's work. My guess is that Fiene has probably passed on (he would be in his early 80s by now), so some other enterprising academic needs to take up the torch. I only hope that the update comes soon. But in the meantime, many, many thanks to Don Fiene.
