Crystal Collins-Sterling did a wonderful job of creating these Panda paper dolls and their outfits. This book has 8 one sided pages and on the back cover are two panda brother & sister paper dolls Bamboo & Blossom which are made on a thicker paper than the outfits. The outfits are not precut and would probably best cut out by an adult or older child. You can tell which outfit is for which panda based on their arms, outfits for Bamboo ( brother ) has his arms/ sleeves down on his side and Blossom's outfits have her left arm bent in on her stomach. The outfits included are:

Sunny days -a small baby panda w/ parasol, there is a parasol & bathing suit w/ pink sandals, hairbows(2), polka dot sunsuit w/ green sandals and a white "cool" bucket hat.

Playing House - pink outfit w/ black & pink checkerboard pants & matching shoes and holds a broom, a pink scarf for Blossom's head, a blue & white outfit standing behind a little baby panda on a bamboo stool with a bowl & chopsticks & cap as well as a table and teapot.

By the Water - Sailor Dress, more hairbows, a salor outfit & hat for Bamboo and a little lotus blossom pond w/ 1 yellow duckling.

In the Garden - blue & white outfit w/ little pink piglet " Pearl", 2 woven straw sun hats and a small garden plot w/ a yellow butterfly.

Flying Kites - a warm quilted jacket w/ beautiful yellow, green, blue and black butterfly kite, there is a peacock kite, 2 blue hair bows, a green boys hat to keep Bamboo's ears warm and a dragonfly kite outfit. I think this is my favorite page of clothing.

Chinese Imperial Court Costumes -
Summer Robe made of silk w. clogs, a red paper lantern, a Madarin robe w/ jade bead necklace and a green pet bird & bamboo cage, Empress' embroidered dragon robe, a peach fan, Emperor's dragon robe & fancy hat, and plum blossons in a Ming jar. This has to be my 2nd favorite 2 pages.

Reginal Costumes of China -
Nomad's Dress from Tibet w/ felt hat, a shawl to carry sleepy baby, beaded necklace, Mongolian Coat & matchin hat.

I wish the paper pages where laminated so that the outfits would be more durable. One would have to be very careful with the outfits or they would tear easily. The outfits can also be cut out and used for my daughter's lifebook Culture page. A definate steal for the price of 3.95!

A play for 8 men and 9 women with room for other student extras. From book's back cover:

From one of the most popular novels and movies of the last decade comes a stage adaptation which gives new immediacy and excitement to the story of a first-year Harvard law school student and his quest for the prestigious degree. Meet Hart and his friend Ford, as they literally lock themselves in a hotel room for a week to prepare for the most important event of the year - final exams. As they cram, they also reminisce, allowing us to become intimately involved with the people who were so much a part of their education. The action takes place on a simple unit set which incorporates such diverse locales as a dorm, an apartment, a park, and, of course, the ever-present classroom of the icily brilliant Professor Kingsfield. The dramatization remains faithful to the novel yet it highlights the relationships and conflicts among the characters in a way that will challenge the actors. The continual flow of the fast-paced action will delight the beginning as well as the experienced director. Critics have called The Paper Chase "rich ... imaginative ... moving and remarkable," - and that's how your audience will find this play.

I was charmed by this well written, entertaining book. I think you will be too.

Created as a pictorial companion to Paul's Full Moon art exhibit at Pharmaka Gallery in Los Angeles, it catalogs many of the items in the show and introduces us to a selection of the artists (friends all) who contributed them.

It's also a colorful memoir from a member of the influential California art scene - an intelligent, multi-talented bon vivant. Paul loves living - and he especially loves ART and those inventive souls who interpret it. Since his favorite people collection expands as rapidly as his objects, it's lucky for us he keeps a good diary.

We get an informal biography of each chapter's subject, but the real star of these chronicles is Paul himself who describes his adventures and relationships and observations in a cheerful, candid style that feels like he's chatting with an old pal. His world is glamorous, demanding, complex and he enjoys it all. Paul is exactly the right person to be living his life. Happily, he believes in sharing.

This handsomely produced volume is a pleasure to read. My only disappointment is that it eventually came to an end.

Careering with Cocktails.

This is the case of the missing girl enrolled at a "finishing school" in Bavaria. Thanks to Francis Durbridge's tight plotting and the magic of BBC radio, after the disappearance has been explained to Paul Temple and his wife Steve, within 5 minutes we are sharing cocktails with them on the terrace of a country hotel, then 5 minutes later we are with them when they stumble on a body in a deserted house, and after another 5 minutes we have flown with them to Munich and are approaching the prestigious "finishing school" in a hired car.

The pace is even hotter when they return to London six episodes later. Steve barely has time to utter, "Oh, Paul, I'm exhausted. I've never known such..." before the chase continues through hotels, nightclubs and cars with time bombs in them.

A meticulous production and highly-skilled actors ensure that this piece of 1950s escapism can still entertain and enthrall. It can bewilder, too. After repeated hearings I still cannot always understand who caused what to happen where. Is that the way of good mysteries?

Spills and thrills come thick and fast in this case from one of the BBC's most popular and longest running series. The Temples' car is stolen, the driver is shot by someone believing it to be Paul Temple, Steve is pulled from a car seconds before it blows up, Temple narrowly avoids being shot when exploring a launch, both are dumped in a river after a car crash, and both are shot at during a sleigh ride in Switzerland. Unbelievable? Also incredible is the way characters from mainland Europe speak with correct accents but in perfect idiomatic English.
All of which might suggest that this release from the BBC radio archives is as unsophisticated as low quality pulp fiction. However there is one element that outweighs all deficiencies. Listen to Marjorie Westbury, who played Temple's wife Steve throughout almost the whole series! When she is speaking, every detail in this "Paul Temple" world and every character and situation suddenly becomes real. How could you doubt any of it, and how could you believe that this adorable creature with "the sexiest voice on radio" is actually "very short and very round" and already gray-haired and 60 years old?
Admirable work is done by other cast members also, notably Isabel Dean as the widow who is convinced her husband is still alive, and Nigel Graham as the American Danny Clayton. Sir Graham Forbes of Scotland Yard is not involved in this case which extends to six episodes instead of the usual eight.

One of BBC radio's most popular serials

From 1938 to 1969 crime novelist and detective Paul Temple and his wife Steve, solved case after case in one of BBC radio's most popular serials.

They inhabited a sophisticated world of chilled cocktails and fast cars, where the women were chic and the men wore cravats, a world where Sir Graham Forbes, of Scotland Yard, usually needed Paul's help with his latest tricky case.

The Lawrence Affair: Paul Temple and wife are staying in the fishing village of Downburgh, Steve gets the uneasy feeling that she is being watched by a man at Fisherman's Point. A pleasant boat trip turns into a nightmare when their craft gets shot at, and the boatman himself is later discovered drowned at sea. Back in London, the daughter of the head of MI5 has disappeared, and Sir Graham brings the matter to Paul's attention. Could there be a connection between this and the events in Downburgh? In finding out, Paul and Steve find they are in peril once again.

Enjoyable mistery case!!!!

What did you do with your eyes?" This significant question came from a young relative recently, to whom I was describing the days when radio provided the bulk of home entertainment. I tried to explain how words and voices could stimulate the imagination, and how excellent some writers, actors and producers were at providing these entertainments.

Notable examples in this genre were to be heard on the BBC during the years 1938 to 1969, written by crime writer Francis Durbridge. His sleuth was a writer and amateur detective Paul Temple, ably supported by his charming wife Steve. Each case, serialized in half-hour episodes, presented the Temples investigating murder cases. The formula comprised frequent changes of scene and situation, danger, fast cars, dry martinis, meetings at lonely places, and the frequent appearance of a significant clue such as a gramophone record or a cocktail stirrer.

Playing the principal parts throughout what survives of the series were the highly accomplished and versatile actors Peter Coke and Marjorie Westbury. Adding to the magic provided by the voices and the sound effects was the theme music, "Coronation Scott" by Vivian Ellis.

"The Spencer Affair" is one of the best of the series. I was happy to acquire it recently in a new CD reissue. In whatever format, this makes ideal entertainment, nowadays recommended for long car journeys, sleepless nights, or nostalgia buffs.

What an excellent book! From beginning to end, this book was a great commentary on the similarity of discrimination between African Americans and Jews throughout history. Wonderfully written, and highly recommended.

The reason for the above title is that Debussy made a few alterations (almost exclusively additions to the score in terms of orchestration - though there are one or two lines missing that also apply to the singers) after the publication of this version of the orchestral score (even up to not too long prior to his death). However, one will have to be prepared to shell out $190 US. to get the latest version (published by Edwin F. Kalmus) - which is a whole lot more (worse still will be when Éditions Durand issues its critical edition of the score as part of its publication of the complete works of Debussy - those critical editions always cost "an arm and a leg"!)! This kind of price-jump is hard to justify; and that difficulty is particularly tough to ignore when one notes that (thanks to Debussy's largely transparent writing) anybody with a keen ear can capture most or all of the orchestral changes by listening carefully to recordings - and jotting the changes down right into the score (or at the least onto copied pages therefrom with extra staves added as necessary). [The latter eventuality just might apply to one passage in Act II, scene II, where either a (muted?) French-Horn (likelier of these 2 possibilities!) OR possibly a Trombone is added to the texture following the bass line of the 'Celli and Double-Basses (page 126: 6 (2nd half of the bar) and 7 bars after rehearsal figure 33 {bars 363-4 of Act II}. That seems to be the only case of such a more substantial change potentially being necessary in so far as I've been able to determine (further data will be posted if and when it becomes available).] The reproduction of the engraving is of excellent quality, and it's quite easy to follow! Definitely a must for any interested party's library - it's an absolute steal!
