I remember buying this book when I was in the 5th grade ( I am now 20 years old) on a trip to Washington. I bought this book
at the top of the washington monument. I remember how I could have looked through the pages a hundred times. His illustrations
are to date and very detailed. I remember there being several dolls of Washington and his family and a good amount of outfits
for each doll. This will be a collectors item one day.

Brahms' German Requiem is his best vocal work. Unlike the typical mass of the 18th and 19th centuries, This mass is not in
Latin but in German. If anyone owns of a recording of this work, owning this score will greatley enrich your pleasure. This
is indespensible for the Brahms fan. The notes are fairly small but easy to read, and there is ample room for your own notations.
If you want to see a masters work in full force, buy this copy!

I love these insight guides; very interesting,& packed full of info and beautiful pictures. Gives the traveler a working
knowledge of sites to see, customs, history, politics and the ideology of the people of a given region. It is not meant to
be an extensive study of an area, but a useful travel guide, and for that purpose it earns 5 stars easily ! It is not a guide
of where to stay or where to eat, but it gives useful information about each area covered so that a traveler knows what a
locale has to offer and some background on each area. Great to pack in the suitcase or browse in the armchair !

"Get up and Glow" is a great book. Some of you may be able to read it straight through, but I doubt it. The emotional journey
the book takes you through allowed me only to read one or two chapters at a time. That's probably the best way to read it,
becuase there are exercises (and basic soul-searching) that you'll do throughout the read. I found the book to be better
and more fulfilling than many of the other well-known self-help/spiritually titles of the last 10 years. Unlike other
books, "Get up and Glow" does not preach or judge. It's written from the heart and with love. The book is also well written
and edited. There are truly some "lightbulb moments" in the book. I won't spoil it, but the essence of "Get up and Glow"
is found late in the book when refering to "Home."

I happened across this Giftwraps by Artists series six years ago in a local large-chain bookstore and bought several of these
books. They have been a wonderful investment. The paper is heavy, tears out from the booklet nicely, and is luscious and
glossy.. This is not your typical cheap giftwrap. It adds a wonderful touch to your gifts. It also makes a nice gift.

Rossini too good to be true
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.

Review Date: 2007-03-18
Before I purchased this score, Ricordi's claim for it to be "Critical Edition" made me feel skeptical. It is true that Fondazione
Rossini of Pesaro and Ricordi have been working on the monumental task of publishing the critical edition of complete works
of Rossini, but those opera scores cost a fortune to buy. This score, "Rossini - Favorite Overtures," indeed has SIX of his
most famous overtures in critical edition. The only "favorite" one missing here is "Semiramide"--a very small compromise,
especially considering the price. It is simply too good to be true.
Rossini's music has suffered greatly by editors and publishers. The most striking example is the overture to "L'italiana in Algeri." This Ricordi score indicates that the usual flute part (as it has traditionally been played) was actually written as a piccolo part. Rossini's piccolo is not just high pitched and loud. It is witty, chirpy, and sarcastic, perfectly fitting for a "dramma giocoso" which "L'italiana" is.
This score is a must for any musician or music lover who is interested in Rossini.
Unfortunately, there are no good recordings made with the critical edition. The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra recording on DG is a joke. Listen to the overture to "L'italiana" when the piccolo and other winds rush, unable to keep steady tempo only four bars into the main Allegro section. This orchestra badly needs a conductor for traffic control and to learn that the joke should be in the music, not on them. Norrington's recording with the London Classical Players is not a joke. That is an insult to Rossini with his unmusical and unidiomatic interpretation. Tulio Serafin needs to be resurected to bring full justice to this fine music that is finally available (at least in print) as Rossini originally intended.

A Very Good Discovery

This modest little volume, almost devoid of text, is a nicely-printed collection of patterns by a lesser-known but very worthy
deco stylist, Serge Gladky, who was apparently one of the pioneers of the movement. The restrained and intelligent color
palette is perhaps the most striking feature of his work; his use of shapes is even more mathematical than a collection of
patterns would imply. It's a useful and inspiring resource for designers and afficianados, and the material richly deserves
to be preserved and presented.

I thought A Glass Full of Stars would be pleasant subway reading, and was surprised that I could not put it down! Mallory
Dorn Hart is masterful at creating characters that stick with you. Characters that are like people you know, though in an
historical era. I found myself thinking about "Caroline" and "Thierry" in between readings. It was hard not to skip to the
end, but well worth the wait. Very suspenseful and fun.
