A very easy to read and comprehensive score to Mozart's middle symphonies. It's durable and the print is large (9x12). It lays flat for study or enjoyment. It's a must for both professionals, students, and listeners.

There isn't much to say about a score, except that Dover consistently does them perfectly. And Mozart's Symphonies Nos. 22 - 34 is no exception: the user-friendly format and legible music make for the highest quality score available today. If you want to see some of Mozart's greatest symphonies in their purest forms, do not delay in purchasing this one. You cannot go wrong with Dover.

This score is very good, very easy to read, and as I hoped, very fun. It is quite nice to be able to follow along with the recording like this, and gives me a true insight into the composer's brilliance. Just as enjoyable as reading a book! I highly recommend this item!

Nice score from Dover. There are some minor corrections made in latest Hansen scores (this is a reprint from first Hansen print), so it is recommended to check them out. More of that I wait for new complete edition, the blue one to come out after copyright issues are over in Europe. The new edition of Sibelius 2nd and Kullervo-Symphony already exists and is highly recommended, although very expensive in big format (the study score of 2nd has just come out as well).

A Great Choice for Mahler Fans

Once I had collected a number of orchestras performing all of Mahler's symphonies, I couldn't think of a better way to enhance my collection than to get the full scores, too. Sometimes I even play my clarinet along with the orchestra on the CD! What a joy! If you love Mahler -- and especially if you have a collection of his symphonies -- your compendium isn't truly complete without the full scores. The Dover Mahler scores are outstanding!

An extraordinary symphony, right before your eyes

Mahler's 9th is one of the most incredible symphonies ever written. It is an immensely complex and detailed score, one that is difficult if not impossible to appreciate without the aid of a score. It also allows the reader to see the inner workings of Mahler's compositional genius, combining motives in the most subtle of ways.

Exceting, Fast Paced Wonderful Book
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2002-04-17
This was a very entertaining book that kept the readers interest from page one to the end. The author takes us into a world that very few people know much about and does it in a very engaging way. The book details what life is like on the oil supertankers that move oil between Alaska and Washington. The bit that makes this book so great is that this part of the world's oceans is one of the worst in terms of weather and rough seas, kind of like the Perfect Storm all year around. Because of this hard and dangerous environment these ships are built to take the punishment and the crews have very difficult jobs.

The author does a great job in describing the ships, the routes and the dangers they face. We also get an inside view of what it is like to work in one of the most dangerous jobs in the world of shipping. What struck me was that there are a number of foreign flagged ships that are working in this area and these countries and ships have far fewer safety regulations then the U.S. so a good number of these sailors get washed over board or injured in other ways.

This is just a good old fashion interesting and exciting book that would be enjoyed by many readers, not just readers that have an interest in the oil business. I suggest you give this book a try, you will be glad you did.

A masterful piece of writing

It's hard to imagine a better explanation of the issues of tanker hazards. Nalder shows that it's more complicated than just requiring double hulls, that the very nature of the shipping industry means ships will be built and operated ever closer to the edge, and the push to cut costs will continue to result in spills, leaks, and disasters. The mind-boggling size of the supertankers itself causes accidents: hosing out the cavernous hulls causes clouds to form, causing, literally, lightning inside the hull, which has caused explosions. The writing is clear, concise, and renders technical issues clear. If you live in a coastal state, or drive a car, you owe it to yourself to read this book.

The Tao of Reiki is both a thoroughly enjoyable read, informative and believable! It includes detailed descriptions of initiations in the various Reiki styles and levels (including symbols) and a suprising story about how Dr. Usui's reiki manuscripts were recently discovered. This book reveals the buddhist origins of reiki. Fantastic exerpts from Dr. Usui's diary describing his adventures while developing usage of Reiki, you really get a feel of the kind of guy he was! Basically, the most intelligent, useful and believable book on Reiki that I have read.

A must for all selfdeveloping beings

This book is a must for all reiki practitioners. It gives an invaluable informations about origin of Reiki and true story of dr.Mikao Usui and his followers and how to use healing energies of Reiki. My recommendation is to read this book after you have had initiation to a 2nd degree because it is better to develop your own intuitive based relationship with Reiki and then extended it with other thoughts and technics. There is no boundaries so you have to be open-minded and listen to your intuition.

I just finished reading your book and all I can say is WOW!!!!! It is just beautiful! I can't remember ever reading a book that has touched me so. I found myself crying about every few pages and would have to stop and get myself under control again before I could go on. Your writing is so beautiful, tender and honest and vivid. I could feel the range of emotions as though they were my own. Even though our lives have criss-crossed through the years, you have a depth and strength to you that I never suspected or knew.
There was no mystery to your story, as I already knew the ending having met Ken at our 50th Class reunion, but still I found myself grabbing for your book every spare minute I could find. It definitely is a Can't Put Down book. I remember at our reunion how sad I felt that Jack had suffered so with Parkinson's, but being truly happy that you had found someone to share your life in our golden years. Never did I imagine the story behind yours and Ken's marriage. All I saw was two people who were in love and had been married for a year.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. It is truly a masterpiece. Along with the vivid accounts of each of you expressing your inner most feelings, doubts, dreams, helplessness and anger at times it only reinforced our own feelings and emotions that we've all felt through different experiences. I so enjoyed the letters and poetry, especially the "I Don't Iron Shirts."
As one who does believe in miracles and in answers to prayers, I wish you both years of loving, sharing and laughing. You deserve only sunshine and magic and I'm so happy that you've found it once again in each other. Thank you again for your story. It is one I know I will read again and again. Much love, Patty

As a novice Civil War Buff and North Carolina Historian, I found the book very comprehensive in its coverage of this interesting facet of Civil War, Reconstruction, and North Carolina history. Click focuses on a group of slave refugees set up in a freedmen's colony by Northern evangelists and Union military personnel and their struggle to survive in a post-slavery world. The book's rich detail is further strengthened by its ease of read and overall interestingness making it a true gem for someone researching or just looking for a good read.

Even though I am a self-taught researcher of local and NC history and genealogies, I had not heard of this publication until I saw the author on PBS TV. I ordered the book from ... and am still in the process of reading it. It seems well documented and contains information I was not aware of until I read this book. I have helped two different African-American individuals research their families and so this subject was of interest to me. I recently was in court as a juror and was approached by a bystander who heard me describe my "line of work." I told her of this book and how she could obtain a copy. She said she would like to add this publication to her personal library of publications on Black Research. I purchased this book for our local historical/genealogical library so that it could be used by everyone doing black research. I ony live about 60 miles as the crow flies from Roanoke Island and had never heard of this Freedmen's Colony until now.

The One Small Square series is wonderful: the concept is that you take a hypothetical square foot of an environment- woods, seashore, arctic tundra, rainforest, etc.- and explore it at all levels, from underground to the sky. Each book is extensively illustrated with all of the inter-connected layers of life- from fungus to megafauna- in the Square. On the margin of most of the 2-page spreads are activities that you can do, no matter where you live. Food chains, life cycles & seasons are explored, and the back section has an identification guide to all of the life forms presented in the book.

We took One Small Square: Tropical Rain Forest with us on a trip to the Brazilian rainforest with our 5 & 7 year olds. The book was great- for the grown ups & the kids! We used it as a guide to identify many of the animals & plants we saw, as background to help the girls understand what they were going to see, as reading on the long trips up the river. We did many of the activities- some before, some during, and some after the trip. Our guide was so impressed with it that he ordered a copy for himself, saying that it was hard to find something with so much information that was both accurate and interesting to people at many different levels of knowledge. Highly recommended!

Mini-sized guide laden with maxi-helpful information

Review Date: 2000-09-06
The Opera Journeys Mini Guide Series is just wonderful; it's like a "Cliff Note" of the opera, and extremely informative and educational. I particularly like the size; these guides are not cumbersome and fit right into my shirt pocket. The ladies will find sufficient room in their pocketbooks.

The story narrative with the music examples is excellent. I prefer it to a libretto; indeed, it's a much easier way to follow the essence of the story. The essay is magnificent; very well written, not pedantic, and extremely insightful and comprehensible. I congratulate Burton Fisher for a job very well done and Amazon for making these handy, information-laden booklets available. The Opera Journeys Mini Guide Series is a wonderful contribution to opera education and opera appreciation.

My tip: acquire the entire collection because you will be in easy reach of superbly presented opera guides consisting of story analysis, principal characters in the opera, story narrative with music highlights, background, analysis, and commentary.

There seems to be a complicated mix-up with this product at Amazon. The first time I ordered it I was sent something completely different, and the two reviews below (March 2007 and September 2000) clearly aren't about this item. So to avoid confusion: what is on offer here is a FULL (ORCHESTRAL AND VOCAL) SCORE of Puccini's final opera.

Ricordi has started a series of affordable full scores, Dover-style, but just a tad more classy. While Dover offers reprints of early editions, what you get here is a fully up-to-date version of the score reflecting the latest revisions and edits. The music is printed on firm, white paper and easy to read. It is prefaced by a portrait of the composer, a list of instruments, and a synopsis of the action in English, French and Italian. The Alfano completion of the final duet and finale is included. It is a pity that a little editorial lapse resulted in the omission of a page (238) - in my copy, this is added as an erratum on a separate sheet, but I trust this will be corrected in later reprints. What will be more of a problem for many users is that apart from the synopsis, everything is Italian only, language-wise. If, like me, you don't know what `ottone' are, I'll help you out in advance: they are the onstage brass ensemble. You may encounter some more of such conundrums while perusing the score, but on the plus side, you'll improve your Italian. In the end this is a most worthwhile purchase for any admirer of this magnificent opera; only by seeing the notes you'll become fully aware of its dazzling intricacies.
