The organization, indexing, and color-coding of the AMA books are FAR MORE USER-FRIENDLY than those from other publishers. This book offers increased indentation for subterms within the Index of Diseases, Index of Procedures, and Index of External Causes, directing you to the right code the first time more often!

The SPRIALBOUND binding adds true ease-of-use and is a MUST-HAVE FEATURE! Don't settle for the regular-bound paperback.

I used this during my CPC exam and passed with flying colors! This book would also be great for use during the CCS exam, CCS-P exam, CCS-H exam, and RHIA exam!

I purchased several of Tom Tierney's historical paper doll sets to augment my family history projects. I have 150 years of family photos which are mostly in black and white, of course, so it's great to see the period clothing in detail and in color. The paper dolls will add so much to my research and my family's appreciation of the historical times and stories. Although I intend to keep the paper dolls uncut, they are printed on card stock which would be easy to cut and not tear apart if well-cared for.

This entire line of paperdolls of each decade is delightful and educational. The costumes are marvelous and the little histories that go with the set add interest to the product. What I liked best about this Tierney series is that the set is a family grouping. That seems to make it all the more interesting.

My 10-year-old daughter needed to create a 3-D scene for a Social Studies Fair project, so she cut out these dolls and glued on the costumes she thought would be best suited for the subject (the Salem Witch Trials). Then she arranged them on a wooden floor with a witness stand and judge's table. To give them stiffness and assure that they would stand up, she glued craft sticks to the backs. These are wonderfully authentic period dolls and we couldn't have been more pleased. She place second in the U. S. History category in her age division.

This collection of essays is a gem!

Pam Fleischaker writes with the savvy of an insider and the compassion of an outsider. Whether she is writing about her own typically tortured adolescence, which included not being asked to the high school prom, the challenge and joys of mothering teenagers, or Oklahoma's conservative political climate, her clarity and sharp wit are cutting-edge. These essays are engaging slices of life, most of which address themes with which we can all identify, naming issues with which many of us struggle. They are fun to read, accessible and touching.

Funny, entertaining and insightful

This collection of essays is a thoroughyl engrossing read. MS. Fleischaker's observations of family and raising children are funny and poignant, and you don't have to share the author's decidedly leftist politics to appreciate her insight and passion. This is definitely worth checking out, especially if you live in (or are from) the Southwest.

Words of the ancients...

One of the remarkable things about a discipline such as archaeology is the incredible staying-power of many of the older works. Archaeology is a discipline that crosses over arts and humanities concerns into scientific realms, both physical science and social and behavioural science. yet, while many other disciplines regularly update and supersede their earlier works, in archaeology one will often find the 'most current' research is well over a hundred years old.

True, there are more current studies on Assyrian language than this text by Sayce, yet it remains a standard. Sayce was perhaps the foremost Assyriologist of his time; a professor at Oxford, he produced this text originally in 1875 for the purposes of teaching, and to that end it is well suited.

Until the advent of computer-driven printing services, it was rare indeed for a book such as this to use actual cunieform markings, preferring a substitution method for instruction. This early text (reprinted and made available from the second edition by Wipf and Stock), made no such compromises; the reader learns Assyrian language in the script of the language.

A knowledge of how language works is assumed (grammatical structures, as well as some knowledge of non-Latinate scripts -- Hebrew/Aramaic is very helpful here) and some familiarity with languages that do not have a strict adherence to sound-character correspondence would also be helpful. Cuneiform script is, after all, a kind of corrupted pictogram or hieroglyph, much in the manner that modern Chinese characters still retain hieroglyphic elements despite being much simplified and varied in use from the original image.

Like any language, there are large sections which must simply be committed to memory, both of rules and of vocabulary and word-construction variations. However, like any language, it was intended to be understood, not confused, and thus there are patterns which become clear upon closer inspection.

The grammar follows a fairly standard pattern of setting out pieces -- nouns, numerals, pronouns, verbs, prepositions, adverbs -- then discusses briefly the phonology (however, in many cases, these are educated guesses, based upon knowledge of related modern languages' phonology) and accentuation.

There are some reading exercises in the back -- unfortunately, there are no translations accompanying some of them, so the student without a teacher or Assyriologist handy (which means, most of us) will have to hope that the translation is correct.

In a mere 130 pages, one can learn one of the most ancient languages on earth, and gain an insight into the linguistic mindset of people who dominated the fertile crescent, the birthplace of civilisation, so many thousands of years ago.

But where do I start?

A comprehensive book, but with out instructions as to the composition of cuneiform sentences; also advice on how to go about using this book to read cuneiform. Where do I start; How do I read this language? Other than this bit of information it apprears to very complete in providing one with the tools for reading cuneiform. There will be a lot of hunting and seeking until one gets familiar with the language. One wonders why one would do this. Jimmy

Finding God's love among our everyday lives

This book was a powerful presentation of an almighty and loving God in our everyday normal lives. It is filled with inspiration, miracles, and a God that works his divine wonder into the most ordinary situations we face each day.I found myself in awe in reading many of the truly amazing situations faced by average folk in this short <117 pages>,yet dynamic book. The author appears to have written this straight from his heart and describes many of his own life experiences which left no doubt as to the enormous capacity of God's bountiful love. He's quite effectively related some interesting stories of others who have witnessed Gods majestic power into the most humble fragments of daily lives. This book has thirty wonderful stories, after I finished reading it looked at my relationship with God in a new way.His presence no longer seemed so much "out there" in a distant part of the universe or in a remote dimension far removed from my everyday world, but instead felt him very close by ready to allow me to become closer to him,and all I have to do is ask. I highly recommend this book.

A book for everybody

Awe-full Moments is a great book. It is spiritual in nature, but it is a book for everyone, no mater what religion or philosophy. Wonderful stories and analogies for healing bad feelings one might be experiencing. On the other hand it's great if you are feeling fine and like to be happy, laugh, and see that life can be and is good, no matter what happens. To have faith, to believe in the positive is the best medicine for living well, and this delightful book makes the concept easy. I hope this book does great because I know that people will be better off for having read it. I know I am.

19th Century Ballet Made Easy

Review Date: 2000-01-11
I can't imagine a more painless way of learning about 19th century ballet than Tom Tierney's Ballet Stars of the Romantic Era. True to history, the four ballerinas have the matching costumes they wore for their famous Pas de Quatre -- when all four shared a single stage. Careful details include Marie Taglioni's trademark pearl necklace: she thought her neck was too long, and always wore a pearl choker to disguise it. The four ballerinas share a partner, dancer/choreographer Jules Perrot, so there are five dolls in all. My dancer daughter has had these paper dolls for years, and still treasures them.

This is one of Tom Tierney's prettiest and most feminine books. The plates are worthy of being framed, and I'm sure that most aspiring ballet dancers would love to have them on the wall in their rooms.
Until I bought this book, I'd only heard of Lola Montez, but more for her exploits than her dancing. Reading the notes accompanying the dolls was a fascinating introduction to the ballet world of the nineteenth century.

Barefoot In The Park is the complete and unabridged ninety minute audiobook presentation of a classic Neil Simon romantic comedy. Wonderfully performed by Laura Linney and Eric Stoltz, Barefoot In The Park is the flawlessly recorded production that tells the story of a new lawyer and his young bride, the adventures and foibles in beginning married life, complicated by an uptight mother-in-law and an eccentric gourmet chef who lives in a loft on the roof of their apartment (their window ledge is the only access to his padlocked premises). A superb choice for any personal, school, or community audiobook collection, Barefoot In The Park is also available in a CD format...

I first heard of this play from my good friend, who happened to see it performed in Central Park. I later saw this old copy of the play laying around my high school stage office, and picked it up, remembering my friends mention of it... upon finishing the play (within two days, I could NOT put it down) I realized I have NEVER laughed so hard outloud while reading any sort of literature.. it is witty, comical, and softly but lovingly expressing the hardships of the first days of marriage and living together with your beloved. I highly highly highly recommend picking this up for a mood-lifter, or just a good laugh. It is light and entertaining and very cute!
