This is a terrific book! There is a huge selection of art, and all of it is very high quality. I love the colors and there are wonderful ideas in the beginning of the book. This is a perfect companion to their first book The Decoupage Gallery.

If you like decoupage, get this book! I have already made two projects inspired by the pages. I am thinking about getting another copy of the book because I forgot to make color copies of the prints I used before I glued them down and I want to use them again.

Originally I bought this book for scrapbooking great images. Then I realized why not personal greeting cards for birthdays and holidays?! And when a friend wanted a theme for a party, I used the images from the book for invitations, placemats, centerpieces, coasters etc. And Ive only just begun.

What a beautiful book

This moving book shows the problems associated with being a child actor, but Dolly has a larger struggle than some. She manages to survive child abuse but is diagnosed with schizophrenia and later manic depression. Her fight for survival is a truly amazing tale.

These Fashions didn't come from a Missionary Barrel !!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-08-02
It's obvious that no member of this family ever had to dive into a *missionary barrel* to select clothing. Tom Tierney chose an upper-middle-class family to represent America in the 1930s.

Following the stock market crash of 1929 a mother wearing a fur coat was not commonplace. The hats do grab your attention - - perhaps they were designed to draw eyes away from any shabbiness in shoes or dress? My own wardrobe during those years is remembered as a blur of nondescript cotton print dresses, and that was long before no-iron fabrics were invented. Those were the days when the father's shirts were sent out for pressing. They were returned, folded around cardboard inserts that the children eagerly grabbed for their drawing projects - - which might include original paper doll designs!

Some will purchase this *American Family of the 1930s* - - possibly to leave it uncut for a collection. Fewer children receive paper dolls as gifts now, but when they do they probably get busy drawing & coloring clothes that fit the mod taste of most girls nowadays. Reviewer mcHAIKU enjoys Tierney's dolls as historical statements even though these fashions do not help grandchildren to 'envision' her growing-up years.

I purchased several of Tom Tierney's historical paper doll sets to augment my family history projects. I have 150 years of family photos which are mostly in black and white, of course, so it's great to see the period clothing in detail and in color. The paper dolls will add so much to my research and my family's appreciation of the historical times and stories. Although I intend to keep the paper dolls uncut, they are printed on card stock which would be easy to cut and not tear apart if well-cared for.

If you collect paper dolls, or just like them, I suggest you snatch this one up. It's one of the newest additions to my collection, and is already one of my favorite of the Tierney paper doll families. The entire family comes in swimsuits: grandparents Walter and JoAnn; Walter's sons Patrick and Brad; JoAnn's children Scott and Shannon; Patrick's smiling wife Kathy; their absolutely darling children--Bridget has Shirley Temple curls, Deirdre has a fashionable bob-cut, and Brandon has his uncle's good looks. They have fashionable costumes for all occasions: shopping, winter outings, and, of course, Shannon's afternoon wedding! On the last plate is Shannon's beautiful wedding dress. Georgeous dress, in the 30's fashion. I won't spoil it though--you have to see it for yourself! A must-buy!

The best biography of Anne Boleyn I have read.

Scholarly but not stuffy, Eric Ives' book is the best biography by far I have read of Anne Boleyn. It is packed with original research and serious scholarship but at the same time is readable and easy to follow. The average intelligent layperson would enjoy reading this. Ives, Antonia Fraser and Alison Weir are all MUST READS for Tudor scholars and history buffs.

Fascinating and informative

I found this an excellent read when I was studying Anne Boleyn. While never becoming too bogged down in details, it tells her story compellingly and with the necessary human touch which makes Anne's story so engrossing.

Focusing on faction as one of the major causes of Anne's downfall, we are taken from her contested date of birth to her final end, through the whims of the king, life at court and her dubious romances. Ives gives the legends a brisk working over and gives the facts clearly with all the available evidence. This is THE book on Anne to read and I strongly recommend it to anyone studying her life.

As irresistible as Anne herself

Review Date: 1998-10-09
Even those who have little interest in the story of the second wife of Henry VIII could be attracted by Mr. Ives' clear writing style, wit and "proper historical scepticism". To those with a keener interest, this book is as irresistible as Anne herself. With much of the book based on original research, the text offers new and absorbing insights into a complex person and of life at court under Henry VIII. For the most part, Mr. Ives maintains a proper distance from his subject, but from time to time, he opens his cloak of objectivity to expose the admirer beneath. If you are also an admirer of glimpses of court life, both in France and England, then you should order this book.

The Greatest Witch-Hunt Ever
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2001-10-02
Anne Boleyn was accused of essentially the same catalog of crimes used against every powerful woman since (and probably before) Jezebel - sexual infidelity, witchcraft, heresy, capriciousness and foul temper. As Ives explains, she may not have been physically the most beautiful woman at court, but her intellect, sophistication and worldliness (she had served at the Austrian and French courts) made her by far the most attractive. What is incredible about her courtship with Henry is the sheer number of missed chances to get a proper annulment of Hal's earlier marriage to Katharine - which, of course, would have removed the impetus for the English Reformation, and all the carnage that followed. What makes this a great read is Ives' ability to translate renaissance history into modern terms: Anne's rise and fall were inextricably linked to larger political and religious forces in Henry's court: her demise was the direct product of a temporary court alliance between the hard line crypto-Protestants (Thomas Cromwell et. al.) and the equally hard line Catholic sympathizers (Norfolk, plus the former followers of Thomas More). Once Anne was off the scene, they happily returned to their ideological trenches and resumed ploting against each other. Anne's was a vibrant life in a world which punished the vibrant and the intelligent.

Review Date: 2006-02-16
These reproductions of very old postcards from the Landauer Collection are great fun and might have gone UNdiscovered by me were it not for several family members who have become fascinated in A.T.C.s: 2 1/2" X 3 1/2/" Artist Trading Cards. The images are perfect to "remodel" and use for concocting your own cards /OR/ collages.

PLUS, you don't have to sacrifice the actual card but can copy on lighter weight Kodak paper to cut into small images. The postcards can then be used as intended for correspondence with lucky individuals who perhaps share your taste in the unusual & colorful objects used in turn-of-the-century advertising. You may find some you can't resist for your own amusement - to decorate a window sill, for example - OR - ?

The books of 24 cards (each) make interesting gifts - and even better, you can "pair" with "The Antique Advertising Paper Dolls" (isbn: # 0486240452). The cover of that collection would be a wonderful decoration for your own ALBUM of A.T.C.s. You can see how serendipitous this hobby becomes >> from postcards to trading cards to paper dolls. Reviewer mcHAIKU is pleased that each of these has an appeal even for today's teens who try to appear sophisticated/COOL yet want for themselves a slice of someone else's nostalgia!

A very nice book of art nouveau patterns...many of the patterns are large/complicated, but it does have some patterns that are doable for less experienced crafters. The only flaw in the book is that it doesn't have black/white images to accompany the full-color images, which means you'll have to scan it into Photoshop and fuss with it a bit to get a simple/crisp printable pattern.

Art Nouveau at it's splendid best!

Although the designs in this book may not be for the beginning stained glass artist, the color combinations and whimsy incorporated in them will most certainly get your creative juices flowing! I spent several hours just thinking of how I might take just small segments of some of these masterpieces of glasswork to create my own projects. Although Art Nouveau as a whole "look" may be too much for some people, there are certain aspects of these works that are timeless and would fit with nearly any other design genre. Great book for any artisan or craftsperson in search of marvelous design ideas.

I absolutely love this book. It's definitely not for beginning stained glass crafters, though - lots of curves and intricacies. I'm looking forward to when I have the expertise to use some of the patterns.

There are 30 pages of some of the best art nouveau patterns I have ever seen. I've already used one of the patterns to create a needlepoint pattern, and I plan on using many more. Even better than I anticipated!

I have a lot of veteran friends who worked on this POW issue, and I mean by that, attempting rescues of men in Laotian prison camps toward the end of the war. By defining the VN war solely within its own borders, we not only lost this conflict, but left behind many Americans who we would not recognize that were somewhere else than Vietnam. Then, the Paris "Peace" Accords really sealed their fate. Nixon and Kissinger should have been shown with their pants down to their ankles for their miserable "accomplishments" to end the war. The North Vietnamese let us bring our remaining troops home, then attacked; Thieu knew it was going to happen.
Nigel Cawthorne shows what happened to South Vietnam and our POW's once they got rid of the pesky Americans, who had been an intrusion for 25 years, after they demolished the French. We have yet to respect this enemy, and also all our vets who worked so hard in this hopeless fracas. The most amazing part of the book to was about the 3.25 billion dollars of reparations that Nixon agreed to, on White House stationary; that was the bargaining chip to bring these poor souls home. We violated them as well as ourselves by the bozo's we had in the Nixon Administration, and are still paying the price, both at home and overseas in IndoChina. I am glad that I never got shot down and suffered the fate of our military men who were sadly betrayed by this country and continue to be so. More and more, the experiences I portray in OUTLAWS IN VIETNAM were thankfully the only ones I still have to report...!

This was the first book I had read that really opened my eyes to the public manipulation a government was capable of. Cawthorne pulls facts together from very credible sources and uses them to weave cohesive arguments that are difficult to refute. This book should be more widely read, and portions of it should be used in Civics classes across the United States to teach our youth to be more objective about political motivations.
If any fault can be found with the book, it's the amount of detail it provides. Though, given the prevailing public "knowledge" of American POW's, it serves the author well to support his statements from many angles.

I have read Nigals book many times, more for my on information then anything. This book gives a definitive explantion and reasons behind why the U.S. Government refuses to deal with LIVE POWs rather then the remains of MIAs.

It is well researched and has given hope that the Vitnamese will one day come forward with men that I believe and KNOW are still under supervision by their captors. I could write more on this subject as I was one Nigal's informers.

I loved this book and truly enjoyed reading it to my grandchildren. Baby Bop cannot find her shoes!
She goes through the house looking for them and trying on many different pairs, from high heels to cowboy boots. Does she find her shoes?
The illustrations are colorful and the pictures large bringing the story truly to life.
It is simple reading and also teaches young children about different shoes. A really fun book for young and old to share.

This was my first real lesson in children's books. I was picking the hip, educational books that I thought that I should pick for my young toddler. But she was drawn to different books. She loved the repetitive nature of "Where Are My Shoes?". She asked for it over and over again for a couple of months. It was the first book that she "read" to me. And, of course, she was drawn to those Barney characters (Baby Bop) who were featured in it. I've learned my lesson -- now I pick books that appeal to her. After all, the idea is to foster a love of books.

My physician looked over treatments in the book with me, and admitted we had tried the six things that were supposed to work from some articles in journals. They did not work. Schaller says this. It could have saved me time, money and annoying medications (or herbs from "experts" with no research and of no use).
