Down the Aisle...is an incredible guide for full figured women. It is an absolute page turner...Ms. Canton has certainly done a lot of research and has made our lives so easy. The most amazing fact is this book can be used for everyday styles as well...If I could change the title, I would re-move "wedding"...it is for all women and not limited to the "bride 2 Be". Kudos to Ms. Canton...Job Well Done!

What can I say about this book that wasn't included between the pages? IT's wonderful. Finally a book that lets big girls strut their stuff on their special day. Ms. Canton covers everything that a bride may need and then some from make up tips to dress'es that flatter all shapes and sizes. There are dress makers listed in the book to follow up with and locate to see what they may offer. There is even a section on brides who may have a disability and how to handle this when planning a wedding! This book has been a long time coming for us big girls and as a soon to be bride myself I will certainly be praising this book for years to come and to all brides everywhere.

FINALLY a book for plus size brides

Down That Aisle in Style!: A Wedding Guide for the Full-figured Woman covers EVERYTHING a "curvy" brides needs to know to look her best on her special day. The book is absolutely beautiful and makes a great engagement gift.

Chamein covers everything from head-to-toe, including choosing the proper undergarments to hold you together for that special day. I now have a book that I can refer to my e-newsletter readers who are getting married and do not know where to start.

You WILL NOT be disappointed with this beautiful book which currently hold a prominent space on my coffee table (smile).

Wonderful Family Saga

This is a wonderful story, and I couldn't put the book down. By the end of it, I seemed to know the characters like they were my own friends; I found myself wishing I could live next door to them. This book also provides an excellent "real world" view of Natural Family Planning, showing both the challenges and the tremendous fruits it can produce in a marriage. Anyone who finds him/herself questionning whether NFP is "worth it" will get great encouragement from this story.

The novel follows both a young woman in contemporary times and her great-grandmother in the early part of the 20th century. These two storylines are skillfully woven together, with chapters alternating between one and the other. This technique makes for an even more interesting read, particularly as we discover the parallels between two lives and storylines which seem on the surface to have nothing in common.

I highly recommend it.

I would recommend this book to young adults who are just starting to date and trying to figure out their values regarding dating and love. I think this book is a refreshing look at the meaning of relationships and the purpose of love. It offers young people a chance to demand higher expectations of their dating relationships.
I really enjoyed the character, Jason. Through his character, the author showed us that not all young men are the stereotypical womanizer.

Once I got started, I had to pry myself away from this book! And even as a mother of 2 babies, I finished the it over the weekend. This is a beautiful story of unconditional, eternal love which bridges time and space. Ellen Gable portrays magnificently the Lord's gentle knocking in calling each of us into a deeper relationship with Him, no matter what our current state of affairs is.

The characters are very well developed, and one can identify with them in one way or another through Gable's use of humor, real life situations and emotion strung throughout the story. It also contains a wealth of information and is both educational and inspirational.

I highly recommend this book as reading it will be enjoyable time well spent!

What a wonderful first book by Ellen Gable. Once started it's hard to put down. Emily's Hope takes you on a real journey. The characters are well defined and memorable. You share in her struggle to find faith and love in her future, as well as travelling into the past of her great-grandmother. The different value systems of these two women reflect the shifting morals of today. A must read for young women, Emily's Hope educates and entertains at the same time. I loved this book and look forward to reading it over and over again.

Self Contained Hearts

Review Date: 2003-04-30
Self Contained Hearts as opposed to selfish hearts are always full of love, and do not depend upon others to provide the justification for living, or the direction for living consistent with their beliefs. While they may seek support and advocacy in their accomplishments, they rarely require that for motivation to pursue their interests. They possess internal engines and are usually self guided like heat seeking missles often driven by conscience relying upon tenacity and perseverance. Setbacks become hurdles to be overcome within the context of larger goals and big picture worlds made possible because the heart is full, and not partially developed and fully applied. They rarely rely upon the acceptance of others and usually define success differently than most.

Okay since everybody has written alot about the book already I'll give the "bullet points." The book has a very diverse feature of races which I found as a breath of fresh air. The rules and added classes are well written and easy to understand. The new weapons and armor are interesting along with a truck load of information of the iron kingdoms. I'd say it even rivals Forgotten Realms in history and culture. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is due to magic creation section, you thought the DMG was tough this took me about a 5th reading and compairing the two books to figure it out. This section of the book was the only unflowing part but other than that I would HIGHLY recommend getting this book.

If your looking at Eberron I'd look here first. Eberron doesn't even come close!

From scanning the reviews, I think everything I would say has already been said. This book has been the most enjoyable d20 sourcebook I have ever read. The artwork is fantastic and the content is awesome. For a rule/source book... it's a page turner. Well, page turner in a role-playing gamer way. Odd to say that, but there are various devices throughout the book that keep you interested - adventure hooks in sidebars, enlarged quotes and narratives, and really great, off the wall ideas. The paper is thick so the book looks incredibly thick; print is unfortunately in black and white (off topic: the Warmachine tabletop books (printed in full color) from Privateer Press are on par if not better than Games Workshop's tabletop books). I only noticed slight problems in some character class modifications detailed; otherwise the book appears to be spelling-, punctuation-, and grammar-error free.

I finally found a campaign setting as immersive and interesting as al Qadim... I am once again excited to DM.

Highly recommended.

While I was never a dedicated fan of the Jonah Hex / Weird Western Tales series DC put out in the 70s and 80s, I definitely liked the reincarnation of Jonah Hex in 1993's `Two Gun Mojo'. Freed from Comics Code constraints, Joe R. Lansdale, Tim Truman, and Sam Glanzman put together a blood-splattered storyline with plenty of eerie goings-on, pathos, and Lansdale's unique sense of warped humor. "Riders of the Worm and Such", the 1994 follow-up, went more for humor than horror, but was still an entertaining read. Lansdale was going through a burst of productivity in the Western genre at this time (his coeval title for Dark Horse, `Dead in the West', is worth searching out, but be advised it goes a bit too over the top with the grue).

Jonah Hex now has his own ongoing series, up to issue #33 as of early July 2008. It continues to be one of the few Western titles with any kind of staying power on the comic store shelves. Compilations of earlier issues in this series are now seeing distribution as softcover graphic novels, hence `Guns of Vengeance', which features issues #7 - #12.

In this series, Hex occupies a Wild West where homicidal behavior and moral depravity are steeped into every nuance of daily life. This is the perfect setup for lots of violence, and `Guns' - or rather, Jonah and his trigger-happy compatriots - delivers. Every bullet strike calls forth a detailed, over-the-top spurt of gore, and in some stories the body count gets high enough to carpet the streets with corpses.

The stories in `Guns', which are written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti, are all standalones rather than multi-chapter stories, and center less on the horror or supernatural themes that are the bread and butter of the `Weird Western' titles. `Jonah Hex' focuses more on Spaghetti Western-inspired plots revolving around revenge and retribution. Gray and Palmiotti occasionally provide moments of black humor, but only the `Gator Bait' tale (i.e, Jonah Hex issue # 10) comes close to a Lansdale-style grotesquerie. Featuring a family of inbred backwoods types who enjoy feeding the occasional trespasser to their pet alligators, `Gator Bait' is simultaneously funny and grisly and one of the better stories in the compilation.

Overall, the artwork in the `Jonah Hex' series is good, and the issues compiled in `Guns' don't disappoint in this regard. The artwork by David Michael Beck, Paul Gulacy, Luke Ross, and Dylan Teague has an appropriately realistic style with lots of washed browns, grays, and blues. Moebius set a high standard for modern Western comic art with his famous `Lieutenant Blueberry' series, and DC's editorial staff seem to recognize this in assigning artists to `Hex'.

While the long-term fate of the `Jonah Hex' series is never secure in this superhero-focused world of comics retailing, I'll be looking for more compilations to appear on the store shelves and I'll be picking them up. If you feel some nostalgia for the Old School titles like Marvel's `Two Gun Kid' or `Rawhide Kid', the old Weird Western Tales series, or Lt. Blueberry, treat yourself and grab a copy.

I'm a long time reader of Jonah Hex from years ago when it first came out. I was very disappointed with the way the artwork in the Hex series basically ruined a fantastic character and comic series.
I was NOT disappointed by Face Full of Violence. It is 100% pure Jonah Hex all the way and the artwork is great just like the original series was.
Great stories, great artwork and inking, I hope they make a hundred of them because I would buy them all. If you've read any of the original series, this is a must buy.

One of the most underappreciated characters in one of the most underappreciated genres in comics gets resurrected and reinvigorated thanks to the writing tandem of inker Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. A duo who worked together on a series of holiday-themed Punisher one-shots (none of which were anything if at all to write home about mind you), both writers are firing on all cylinders with Jonah Hex: Face Full of Violence, which collects the first six issues of the revamped series. Instead of focusing on one continuing storyline, Face Full of Violence contains six seperate stories all involving our favorite scarred outlaw, as he pursues kidnappers, has run-ins with those from his past, and generally takes on all comers without blinking an eye. The stories themselves are gritty and violent without going over the top in terms of gore and profanity (this isn't a Vertigo title, it's under the DC banner), but it retains plenty of attitude and a mature tone that isn't seen in mainstream comics too often these days. The art by Luke Ross and original Jonah Hex artist Tony Dezuniga is nothing short of great, making an already sweet package even, well, sweeter. All in all, if you dig old western comics or have fond memories of a man named Hex, this is a must own.

A trade that stands out from the rest

In a comic medium of decompressed stories and multi-part crossovers, Jonah Hex completely exposes an old school tradition by crafting clever, witty and meaningful stories in stand alone issues. Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti and Luke Ross are able to take a classic DC character, in a under appreciated genre, and captivate the audience. This collection offers readers a little taste of what the monthly title has been able to deliver on a monthly basis. Very happy that I've been getting the monthly title but this trade will sit on the bookshelf with some of my other titles.

This was a great book because my great grandfather lost his eye in an accident when he was little, so it was like reading his story but different. Since I like playing baseball, it was a real blast for me. You should buy this book because your child would love the experience of reading a book thats based on the authors husbands life.

One-Handed Catch would have to be an inspiration for any amputee to read, especially a young person. I love the way "Norman's" mother never let him slip into self-pity and dependency, but always encouraged him to learn to do things for himself.

Even as an adult who is not an amputeee, I couldn't put this book down!

As a mom of a child with one hand, this book was insightful and enjoyable to read. After Norm loses his hand in an accident at his family's store (not a gruesome description given), the author goes out of her way to carefully describe how this one incident affects so many others. The characters' reactions to this change in Norm's life are enormously accurate and heart-felt (and sometimes comical). I could relate to every single character as they progressed through the stages of grief to acceptance without even knowing it. It's all done in an uplifting way...not sad or awkward. An awesome quick read for anyone...you'll love it!

One Handed Catch is a marvelous turn-paging baseball book of all time. When you read this book you will be so into it you will not want to put it down until you finish the whole book.
One Handed Catch is about a twelve-year-old boy named Norm. One day at his family's butcher shop a terrible accident happens. While Norm was grinding meat for his father the grinding machine suddenly stops. He sticks his hand in there and the machine suddenly starts up again. His hand gets chopped off. Now he has to deal with only one hand for the rest of his life. Norm is a very athletic who loves to play baseball.

Mary Jane Auch's husband went through the experience when he was a kid. My father went through somewhat similar thing that happened to Norm. She teaches us that we have to deal with stuff that happened to us. Even though we can't do as many things as other people can do.

Third in the series of cook books to follow the wonderful BBC series this wonderfully picks up where #2 ended and keeps going so well I honestly have to check which is which when trying to find something.

The anecdotes at the begining of each section and receipie are charming and amusing and the recipies are so well laid out that even the most frieghtening appearing items become easy in the hands of a novice cook.

Some of these items are regulars on my table and some are guarenteed to exicite a pleased sound from family members when they hear that is what's on the plan for the night. Examples include a salmon mousse that is a regular at picnics,Wilde Green Chicken combines spices, chicken and peanut butter in a way I wouldn't have imagined and the chocolate whiskey cake should not be eaten by anyone considering driving!

If I have any complaint about this book it is that perhaps more than any other 'fat ladies' tome, this seems to have more ingredients that are hard to come by in the US-rabbit, pheasant and woodcock spring to mind, and as a personal prejudice, there are a lot of fish dishes and I am not fond of fish, but that's my problem, not the book's.

In short this is a cook book that is well established in my kitchen cabinted of well used and often resorted to books.

British cookery at its best

Classic British cuisine for the modern world. Baroque indulgence as opposed to lean, mean, designer fare. Something for everyone, from the experienced cook to the beginner. Served up in a very witty style.

For those who can't cook and would like to impress their friends, not to worry - just whip up some Cosmopolitan cocktails (vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice ...mmmmmmm) and Welsh Rarebit Souffles (gourmet version of cheese on toast) with salad on the side. If you can't manage those, I suggest cooking classes.

Intermediate and experienced cooks will find many recipes for soups, fish, fowl, meat and game and vegetable sides which are also easy to adjust to one's own taste. I myself don't follow all the recipes slavishly but use them for inspiration, tweaking a bit here and there to suit available ingredients and personal taste. In addition, there are a few rabbit recipes, which I found useful - organic rabbit meat has just become available in my town.

There is something for every occasion, from leek soup to trout in a good French rose (the wine). For every budget as well - from cheap fish and cuts to pheasant and salmon.

For the cutting edge postmodernist cook, I suggest Fragomammella (Strawberry Breasts), taken from the Italian Futurist Cookbook and Penis Stew (apparently an old Orthodox Jewish recipe).

The core of the book is classic British cuisine (Beef Wellington and grouse anyone?) with a world twist - a touch of the medieval and Elizabethan, India, Singapore, Spain, Russia, I can't count the countries that inspire some of the recipes. If you don't fancy British, there is a good recipe for Singapore Prawns with Bugis Street Sauce. Lots of down to earth recipes as well as haute cuisine fare - tripe and onions, the classic tomato tart, even an American inspired Strawberry Shortcake.

I myself am weak on desserts but Plum Kuchen looks yummy and not to difficult to attempt. Chocolate souffle is included for those more classically minded.

In my humble opinion - a Desert Island Keeper of a cookbook.

When my beloved and I want to cook something special -- one of our favorite hobbies -- we check out the Two Fat Ladies' cookbooks. (I recommend their previous two books, too). I love the stories and explanations that preceed the recipes -- they add depth and luster. I can't read the book for very long without feeling hungry. Their recipes are forgiving, leaving plenty of room for adaptation if you can't find an ingredient indiginous to England. Don't miss watching their series on the Food Network.

If you've come this far with Jennifer and Clarissa, this is truly "full throttle", and you won't be disappointed! You can, literally, *hear*, both of their voices when you read Clarissa's comments at the start of each chapter and both of them commenting about the receipts they've compiled for this book, which is just entirely wonderful! I happen to listen to anyone who sings the praises of animal fat, butter and the like with my my own good sense telling me, "No! It's not good for you!" And then, my French-based culinary training kicks in and says, "So what? You don't eat like this everyday, so *enjoy*!" This is why I love "The Ladies" books. If, twice a year, I can make a true Alsatian choucroute and please everyone, I'm sure I can also pull a recipe out of a "Ladies" book and remind everyone what home cooking is all about.

Okay, off on yet another one of my anglophillic, praise-ridden reviews, but sometimes, or even very often, British entertainment is just miles and miles more evolved, and less consumed with the shallow crap, we Americans tend to be consumed with. (I guess I'm speaking more about the Two Fat Ladies Cooking Show on Food Network than this book.)
Here are two hefty and darling women, cooking and meandering through England, making hearty, stick-to-your ribs dishes. Yum. Okay, I have to draw the line at the Penis stew, but for the most part, wonderful recipes to inspire any chef.

I bought this for a friend. He's a train enthusiast and always wanted this book. But it was so hard to find--and usually cost an arm and a leg. This is going to make for a great Christmas gift. Amazon is a great place for those hard to find items. And quick shipping as well.

Also an excellent book on the history of DIsneyland

I consider myself an expert on Disneyland; I'm a former Imagineer and a collector of Disneyland information. Michael Broggie is not exaggerating his father's importance to the realization of Walt's dream. This book goes slightly beyond the sanitized "official" version that the Disney company promulgates and includes some stories and details that haven't been widely known. It's a beautiful coffee table book, complete and accurate (except for one or two nits someone like me might pick). I love it particularly for all the never-before published photos--you get so tired of seeing the same old approved shots when you collect Disneylandiana.

In case Amazon doesn't provide links, I would also recommend "Walt Disney Imagineering" by David Mumford, et.al. and "Inside Story" by the late Randy Bright. Both are "official," but just as authoritative as Broggie's.

Best book about Walt Disney's vision...

Having been a "Walk in Walt's Footsteps" tour guide at Disneyland AND an engineer on the Steam Trains, I can say with full confidence that this is THE best book written about Walt Disney and his vision of Disneyland, and his love of trains.

The photographs are outstanding, the writing is wonderful, interesting, and easy to read, and the the stories, history, and facts are amazing.

Buy this book for yourself, and get an extra copy to give to someone who likes Disney - they'll be very thankful!

I have always loved the trains at Disneyland more than any other attraction. I always had dozens of questons about the trains that I wished I could get answers to. When I found out about this book I ordered it immediately. (My first experince with "one-click" ordering by the way, and WOW how easy!!) The book arrived on a Friday and I sat down to read it as soon as I got home from work. I could not put it down! I read straight through until 4am the next morning and finished it. It answered all the questions I ever had about the trains at Disneyland. It is a wonderful glimpse into the life of Walt Disney, and the group of incredibly talented people who worked for him. If you love trains, this book is a must. If you love Disneyland, this book is a must. If you could care less about trains and Disneyland, but you love a good story, this book is a must. Thank you Michael Broggie, for sharing this wonderful story.

I normally only read technical books. I picked this book up just to look at the pictures. Then I started to read the short articles within the chapters. I found them so fasinating that I found myself reading the main articles. My son asked my wife "what is Dad doing reading?". Walt Disney said that it all started with a mouse, but after reading this book you will realize that it all started with a train.

This comic strips from 1993 are in my opinion... really funny! For an example of some strips, Peppermint Patty always taunts Charlie Brown to ask him if he loves her! Another year of Peanuts!

"Being A Dog Is A Full-Time Job", strips from 1989, was very funny! Join the Peanuts characters on tons of new zany adventures! For, example we met another one of Snoopy's brothers Olaf!!! Lucy enters him in an "ugly dog" contest(Isn't that just like her?). Peppermint Patty goes to summer school!! She's so mad Marcie and Charlie Brown go to camp, she sneaks away to camp!!And plus, an "old friend" of Charlie Brown's calls and wants to meet him at the mall!! Could this girl have really been an "old friend"??!! To reveal more in this delightful book would be crazy!! It's funny, because I was born in 1989!! Have fun with this one!

Being a dog is a full-time job, indeed...as Snoopy's wacky antics will certainly convince you. Snoopy pulls various pranks on the adorable Peanuts children that will have you laughing until your eyes bleed! Laugh as Schroeder repels Lucy's wanton advances, and Peppermint Patty plays both sides of the ball! Fun for the entire family, even distant cousins!

Although the story is fantastical in nature, it holds the universality of wanting a place to belong, fate, overcoming fears, and the conflict between man and the unknown. Wendi and Richard's textual adaptations of their first five comics offer a new look to the story, and a great deal more detail. Written from a third-person view, it allows the reader to feel like a part of the group, while not having to feel like their suffering all he hardships that the elves feel. The biggest things that drew me to this book, were the characters. They are so complexly simple, that it's hard to remember, sometimes, that they were originally ink and paper drawings, telling their stories through pictures, as well as words. Secondarily, I was drawn by the world, itself. How clearly and vividly it's described has captured me from the first time I even heard of Abode, distinctly the fact that it was inhabited by such creatures as the elves and their bonded wolves. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed realms of magic, love, fantasy, trial, or challenge. It holds all of these, and much, much more within it's comforting arms, and is definitely an excellent escape from reality.

I stumbled across this novel on accident: I remember thinking, "how complex can a story about some elves be???" Was I wrong!!! These elves ain't about no cookies, okay??? They have a rich heritage and stunning characterizations, and--like the humans they clash with--have the normal range of bonds and emotions. I love the characters, and their quest to find their origin isn't unlike ours. If you want a rich, classic story that entertains on all levels, or if you want to see what the big fuss is about the Pinis, this is a great place to start. STUNNING!!!!

A beautiful story enriched with captivating characters.

JOURNEY TO SORROW'S END, like any of Richard & Wendy Pini's work, is superb. You could not ask for a better novel. It has everything: excitement, adventure, romance, and best of all, the world in the eyes of an elf. Be sure to read this one and I guarantee you'll be hooked to the everlasting and captivating world of ElfQuest!!!

As a hardcore Elfquestfan I really like the whole audio version of "Journey to Sorrow's end" and as I read the Elfquest novels first I was already familiar with the third-person-view the tapes are written in. The only thing I don't really like are the voices of some of the elves. But everything else- the story, the characteres, the style... makes it wonderful!

Beautifully written, lyrical, mythical.

How do you rate something like this? Wendy Pini has an exquisite sense of pacing, a master's command of the English language, and a grand story to tell. Without hesitation I would recommend any of her works.

This is the first book in the series. Told in text form, it stands easily on its own -- people who don't have or want the graphic art series won't miss anything here. It tells the story of a band of elves who are persecuted out of their home and must find a new one before they die in the desert. Along the way they encounter a new band of elves, hostile trolls, and some even more hostile humans. Sure, they're elves and they're cute, but these elves have courage, heart, and compassion -- they are as accessible and understandable as we are, metaphors for what we wish we could be.

Unlike many novelizations of graphic art, this book is accessible to newcomers and doesn't leave out important things. It expands some parts of the graphic art series, adding details like background, private thoughts, and extra interactions.
