Childish Skits, No WitReview Date: 2006-09-06
Such dumb "parodies" of tv as "Leave it to Squirley" are not interesting enough to hold the attention of adults who may know of "Leave it Beaver", but it will surely mystify the 9 or 10 year olds who are at IAF's level. This book kicks off with "Jerusalem Dragnet", which has unsettling similarities to a Stan Freiberg comedy album from the late 1950s--but without any internal jokes, wit, or puns. Undoubtedly IAF were inspired by the true geniuses of album sketch comedy, The Firesign Theater. But TFT's albums from the 1970s stand up to repeated listenings even for fairly young folk.
Skit comedy is a flogged horse nowadays, but IAF's gee-wiz "witnessing tools" were trite propaganda even back in the 1970s and '80s.

An Internet Freight TrainReview Date: 2003-02-20
"The Little Website That Could" hauls all of the information you need to know about steering a virtual freight train, from the engine to the caboose. It begins to chug along with getting your business started as a corporation. The chapters of lessons learned along the way, tips about marketing with ezines, and suggestions for looking like a big corporation are the first few cars of the train. Information about search engines, ebooks, and affiliate programs fuel the other chapters and the dogs running by can't catch up with you. ...With a little determination, you too can have extraordinary success with your website.
Lynne Schlumpf describes her entire website experience in this book. She loves trains, and the moral of the story "The Little That Could" has always stuck with her. This book is a result of the success and failures from 8 years of researching internet marketing and operating her website Route 66 Cyber Café. I would recommend "The Little Website That Could" to all entrepreneurs who want to drive a successful internet freight train.

Somewhat disappointingReview Date: 2006-10-26
Yes, it has some nice pictures, but it has very little real information. The specifications for each major locomotive type are repeated, almost verbatim, many times. I realize that there were minor variations, even within the same nominal class, but it would suffice to list the basics specifications once and then discuss the variations. There's very little in the way of history, development, operational characteristics, etc. Much of the text seems to be filler.
If you just want pictures of a several locomotives from most of the major Southern freight classes, buy it. But if you want detailed information or in-depth analysis, look elsewhere.

Great information in the photo captions.Review Date: 2007-11-11
Five stars, however, for the photo captions. The author knows his stuff about the New York Central - e.g., why some pullmans were not on specific Sat. night trains, etc. In fact, I don't think I have ever read such interesting material about how that railroad operated.

Bad CopyReview Date: 2008-10-13
The quality of the copy I got was poor for the first CD, for the second one I thought it was a joke. Could it be that the introduction to Freight Brokerage business started with a Gospel song? No it wasn't a joke, the entire CD was a Gospel songs CD labeled as Freight Brokerage Business CD 1. So sure enough, someone made a mistake and labeled the CD incorrectly.
I tried to exchange it and get a better copy, but I couldn't find a phone number in the Amazon site to talk to someone and explain what I wanted to do. According to the site, if I wanted to exchange it I was responsible for sending it back and if they didn't get it, I could be charged twice. They will only provide a free of charge package for "returns". It was too much of a hassle to exchange and it was going to cost me money to do so. So I returned the product and got my money back.
One thing that I wanted to point out is that this is the first time I get a bad product from Amazon; I have purchased several items from them before and never had an issue.

Okay introduction to industry, but not a good bookReview Date: 2006-01-26
The biggest complaint that I have about the book is its poor organization. Terms and concepts such as Ro/Ro, Customs Broker, Bill of Lading, and Banking are not explained before they are extensively referenced. For those that have some very basic understanding of import/export, some of these terms are not too much of a mystery, but such confusion could have completely been eliminated if only the book was better organized.
Also, perhaps it is a bias result from my specific reading needs, but I thought there were chapters of the book that could have been greatly simplified, combined, or eliminated, such as the first 3 chapters. At a minimum they could be moved to an Appendix section for reference.
There are also numerous spelling and grammatical errors, as well as some sections that are written in "spoken" English. English is not my mother tongue so for me to notice spelling and grammar errors really says something about the proof reading quality of this text.
