This book is a must read for any biologist. I loved the introduction almost as much as I loved the poems themselves. This book illustrates the controversies of evolution and the Biogenetic Law in their early stages in the late 1800's very well. Larval Forms is a great history book as well as a wonderful, unique collection of poetry.

This is my favorite textbook. Walter Garstang was a whimsical
genius. His poems describe perfectly the form and function
of the larval forms of the seas. He creates magical scenarios
for these splendid dynamic scientific descriptions.
I treasure my ancient copy of this book. It is my privelege
to recommend it. I hope it will be printed again someday.

Briefly, this is a wonderful, scholarly, playful collection of marine science knowledge in verse form; the rhymes had me chuckling with pleasure. I learned something, too. What a great gift for anyone who knows the language of marine biology.

Dated and silly, but a great read!

This book doesn't take itself seriously, and it has a lot of whimsy, but it is also packed with little-known facts about left-handedness that will save you from feeling like a klutz or an idiot. Lots of things you don't do well have nothing to do with your dexterity (itself a right-handed word), but rather with the right-hand only design of many products, even gum wrappers! This is a light-hearted, but ultimately very useful and informative book that will help you as a left-handed person to see your true value and your true place in the world. It also includes a useful list of items and activities that are left-hand friendly (like baseball!). Buy it! The price is right (I mean "correct"), and so are the contents.

A must-have for left-handed kids and adults

I bought this book for my left-handed son when he was about 3. He enjoyed reading with me the interesting and humorous anecdotes and facts depicted in it. It is fully illustrated with great drawings on every page to make it easier for kids to follow. I passed the book around to my left-handed adult friends and every single one of them enjoyed it. There are relatively few left-handed books in the market. Though this is not a seriously scientific one, it is definitely worth having in support of the left-handed people in this world. My son is now 7 and he still enjoys reading it from time to time.

Left on!

James T. deKay's delightful book is a wonderful read for both left-handers and those who live with them. It contains amusing facts and anecdotes about the joys and troubles of living left-handedly in a right-handed world, with amusing illustrations on nearly every page. This is the perfect book for a smile or two, but it is far from substantial. Left-handers will love finding out just how unique - and wonderful - they are, and right-handers will enjoy the insight into a backwards world. James T. deKay has also written "The Natural Superiority of the Left-Hander", "The World's Greatest Left-Handers", and "Left-Handed Kids", if you are interested in further reading.

Bravo to Dwight Brown. He has cleansed his confusion of the Venusians he married. Hopefully he can find someone now to ease his Martian mind. You too will find humor and therapy in this personal reflection of Mr. Brown's.

Men will definitely appreciate the pragmatic humor in this book, especially if they are divorced. The illustrations are hysterical. If you are a man that is tired of being told how you need to change in order to get along with your female partner, this is your book. An easy read at less than 100 pages, this is the perfect type of book to take with you on an airplane, in a waiting room, or anywhere else that you would appreciate a good laugh without a large time investment. This is also a perfect gift for a groom-to-be.

I'm a fan of Wild Child Publishing's horror books, but I didn't know what to expect of Weirdly. I bought it and read it in one sitting. This anothology is an adult's version of the old Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series. Some of the stories are very short - something like 2 pages - but there are some real gems in this collection. This is a great book to take to the beach, or if you're looking for something you can get something from reading in a short span of time.

I have read other works by Faith Bicknell-Brown. If her story is in here, I can't wait to read it! Her works let you feel and visualize each detail of the scene. You are right there. She is a very talented author. What a wonderful Christmas gift this will make!

GREAT BOOK!

This book is one of those books that only comes along once in a while. Why doesn't anyone write parodies any more? Who doesn't like a good parody? This book is great. Windows for dumbells, Having our lay, Mars and Venus in the bathroom... and all around the house, The farm, Iron Tom, Jurrasic Pork, "S" is for supercalifragilisticexpealodoious and The "you're Hot, baby" zone are just some of the gut busting parodies in this book. and who can forget the parody that is the title of the book: 7 habits of highly defective people, which is the 18 page classic right in the middle of the book. I recommend this book to everyone. I bought it for 7 bucks when it came out. Buy it for one dollar now. What's a buck to you? 117 pages of pure parody, what more could you ask for?

This is simply a hilarious audio casette. You will laugh so loud that you will disturb the neighbors. I have listened to it five times. And each time, it becomes funnier and funnier. If you are hypersensitive, I wouldn't buy this cassette. The authors really lampoon so many of our favorite icons. Order this audio casette and have the time of your life!

I'm only 1/4 way through the book and it's a keeper. Durst is as funny in book form as he is on the stage. His observations are dead on, sane, and make me laugh out loud.
If you're frustrated with the current state of our union, buy this book. You'll feel better.

Being a teacher, I read this book during the summer (at the pool). I must have laughed out loud at least 20 different times. People started asking me what I was reading that was so funny. I love Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, Bill Mahr and Keith Olbermann. Now I love Will Durst, too. He speaks the truth, hits the nail on the head, and has you laughing out loud, all at the same time. Read it - you'll love it!! I didn't want to finish the book, because it would be over, but I couldn't wait to loan it to my sons, who love satire and sarcasm.

Statements like 'Behold the tortoise, he only makes progress when he sticks his neck out!' and more give the reader food for thought with a little humour in a world where everything is safe and how it should be. Read this, and maybe you will gain the inspiration to try something different, something outrageous, something courageous.
