I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Chaim Stern, the editor of this book. He had a profound impact on my life. Through his prayer books and other writings, he has touched millions of people. Please, allow yourself the joy of being touched by his work, and buy this book! He is an inspired man who shares wisdom that will have a lasting impact on you. He was one of the greatest thinkers of our time. His passing is a tragic loss, since he remained so prolific. Yet, his words will live on and on. Please enjoy the richness of this book for years to come, and let his memory and influence continue forever!

A very worthwhile read. The author has used terrific and verifiable sources for this inspirational daily devotion. Perfect for those of us who don't have much time for reading; yet desire personal growth. These reflections offer depth of insight and encouragement. I highly recommend it.

This volume of readings for a year sets the tone for each week with a reading from the Torah. For each day of the week there is a selection of readings. These readings may be a single sentence, a poem, a paragraph, a teaching tale. They are a variety of traditional Judaica, philosophers, poets, Christians, Hindus, Buddhist, Taoist. They are so well selected that they create a coherent whole not a mishmash and reflect a deep, mature spirituality on the part of the collector. While the weekly cycle may target a Jewish audience, the book is so well put together that it can be recommended for individuals of any religious persuasion.

A concrete example of the variety. For week 28 (Leviticus 14:1-15:33) Sunday: Emily Dickinson, Jacob J. Halevi, Dag Hammarskjold; Monday: psalm, Talmud; Tuesday: psalm, Chasidic, Kenneth Hildebrand, Leigh Hunt; Wednesday: Talmud, Blaise Pascal, Sigrid Undset, Sir Thomas Browne; Thursday: Psalm, Yiddish proverb, Janet Harrison, Archibald Rutledge, Juvenal; Friday: Abba Kovner, Chasidic, Elinor Wylie, Helen Keller; Shabbat: Psalm, Lion Feuchtwanger, Clarence E, Pickett, Booker T. Washington, Albert Camus. Wonderful.

Book is NOT up to date with Georgia Divorce Laws

The Georgia divorce laws had numerous changes effective January 1, 2007. The copyright date of this book - which unfortunetly you cant't seem to find out for any books via the Amazon.com website - is 2001. Which means that the new laws are not covered by this book. I looked up the most recent edition of this book, the fifth edition, and it's copyright date is 2004. To my way of thinking: What good is a book about law, if it is not up to date with the current laws? Not much as far as I'm concerned. Who knows what trouble you might find yourself in following information that is out of date? Amazon.com needs to start providing the copyright date information, especially for books that pertain to the law. Buyer beware!

Going through a divorce was not a happy time for me, so the last thing I wanted was a major legal bill or paperwork headaches. After following the suggestions and using the forms in this book, I was so prepared that it only took me 20 minutes to get in and out of the filing clerk's office. It doesn't get easier than that. AWESOME BOOK!!!

Excellent book...There is no telling how much money that it saved me, well into the thousands, because when my now ex-wife and i could not agree on one or two small things and I had to get an attorny, after all. All i did was give my lawyer the Papers that the book helped me write and he basically copied them for the Divorce. He asked me if I had had any leagel training. (NO) Then I showed him the book, and he made the commit under his breath "We hate those things" He then asked to review it and asked for the number were he could get it. The next week, I was in his office to sign some papers and he had a brand new copy of it laying on the corner of his desk. Thanks alot for the help Amazon.com

This book helped me tremendously. It is an excellent resource, especially if you and your spouse can come to agreement on everything - you don't need an attorney if you can agree. I read the book, copied the forms out of the book and filed them with the court, typed up an agreement that both of us signed and everything went smoothly. You really can have a "do it yourself" divorce for the cost of the court filing fee. Highly recommended book.

Arguably, Over the Hedge is one of the best strips out there today, and this anthology is a great continuation of the first, picking up right where it left off. The sub-urban hijinks pick right up and go into overtime, as RJ and Verne continue gaining insights to suburban life(including swiping Nate's new Hog, and trying out for the Olympics), and continue losing their otherwise-useful instincts. When you get right down to it, who needs to know how to hunt when you can fly fish a couple dozen franks right off the grill?

They're quick-witted, irrepressible, and alarmingly insightful when it comes to pointing out the foibles of their pink primate neighbours. This is without a doubt one of THE best written and illustrated comics out there today.

An hilarious collection of essays by Jean Kerr , playwright, wife and mother. Very funny and unsentimental accounts of family life, full of wonderfully quotable lines. For instance, when she speaks of looking for a larger house "I wanted a house that would have four bedrooms for the boys, all of them located some distance from the living-room - say in the next country somewhere". Her comments on theatrical life are as funny as her comments on family life, as when she observes that the failure of a play, according to the producer, is always to be blamed on "that first-night audience". She understands children better than any child psychologist, as when she observes that you should never say to children "Are you trying to drive your poor moomy smack out of her mind?" Of course they are, but do you think they'll admit it?" A funny, funny book.

It's remarkable how undated this book reads: children are still driving their moms crazy, husbands still have jobs that wives have to work around, and women still have to fit their jobs around the rest of the family...Kerr writes about domestic life, work life (although she was self-employed as a writer, she didn't seem to have tons of free hours to devote to her craft-- and most of her plays didn't do that well; she is roughly comparable to an affluent working mom of today, doing many jobs, but none of them especially well). What I love most about this book, in these days of articles on supermoms and the "mommy-wars," is that Kerr doesn't pretend to be Mrs. Perfect, or even Mrs. Tries So Hard. She admits she wants to sleep till noon; and she is a faithful attendee at nearly every play her critic husband must review, because, as she puts it, "I have four young sons, so naturally I need to get out a lot." Funny, relevant, and somewhat neglected among the canon of humor writing--when WILL women be allowed to be funny?

well, maybe my title is going a bit too far, but this book has long been one of my favorites. it is not a well known book, despite having had a tv show and movie based on it. i think it is sad, since this collection of stories deserves to be known by all. it is not deep reading, by any means, as the title most assuredly reveals, but it is fun reading, reading that will take your mind off things. the stories in this book are a collection of jean kerr's various magazine articles reflecting on her life, her family, and the always amusing events that surround her. this book may have been written in the fifties, but most of the things she discusses still occur today in everyday life. i recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a lighthearted laugh and a good read. you won't be sorry you took a trip into the garden. (gosh that was a bad pun!)

What an array of emotions I felt when reading the different life stories of Paul Heagen. And the way he intertwined these life experiences into business situations was very thought provoking. The story of his Uncle Ray was one of the most eye opening and sad stories I've read, but truly makes one think of how they deal with all people on a day to day basis.

Too bad there aren't more stars so I could rate this book higher. As the author weaves his tales of life he pokes at your funny bone then finds a way to tug at your heart. Each story is cleverly written with a wit so sharp it's surprising the letters don't slice the pages. At the end of each chapter he shares insights and learnings that are golden. Don't miss this one.

The humor of life and especially life on the road makes this book a great read. Short chapters that are summarized with meaningful insights give the reader a chance to reflect on what could have been a chapter that simply is entertaining. Instead, the great stories provide an opportunty to put life into a greater context.

His translations are excellent and his academic style entertaining, yet rigorous enough for high caliber colleges and universities. Whenever anyone asks me about Celtic source material, I recommend this book. It's fantastic.

The best collection of Irish, Welsh, and Classical texts
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-12-02
This is quite simply an essential volume for any enthusiast of Celtic culture. It has the greatest collection of Gaulish texts available (which are few but still important), as well as the commentary of Roman and Greek neighbors. More than that, though, it also contains countless Irish and Welsh texts, most of which have been out of print and unavailable to the public for many years, such as "The Book of Invasions".

The Beginning of a New Celtic Heroic Age

Review Date: 2001-02-14
What a gem! For those of us not able to afford the small fortune involved in buying dozens of original texts (which is still on the agenda- one day), Koch and Carey have supplied us with the translations of not only some of the most important texts in Celtic scholarship, but some of the rarest. The ancient Gaulish inscriptions which begin this book set the scene for the rest of the material in a manner quite unique in this field. Whereas usually one might find reference to Irish material in abundance, and some Welsh texts of the High Middle Ages, "The Celtic Heroic Age" provides us with a glimpse of the Golden Age of the Celtic peoples from the very beginning of their written record. Rather than painting a literary picture around these texts, the editors have provided us with a series of views of Celtic culture as seen by the Celts themselves and by their nearest contemporaries. An absolute must for any serious student of the Celts!

Rosenfelds Travel Companion was passed on to me by a friend during a trip up to the New York area from my native North Carolina home. My friend told me that between his group of friends this book had gained a sort of cult following. I read it cover to cover while in Central Park and New Yorkers actually turned to me to ask what I was reading because I was laughing so hard. And I thought they were all so unaffected. I have loaned my copy to a number of friends down here and each of them wants to know where to find their copy. In fact, I came online to buy it here because my friends have passed it on to their friends, and so on. Keep the good shtuff coming Mr. Rosenfeld.

Whether you read this book in pieces or in one big dose, read it all before you judge, because Rosenfeld's demented landscape is a broad one. The stories offer snapshots into the existences of young adults who are stumbling along in dead end jobs, partying, and having weird experiences - both at home and out in public. Like a viewer of a David Lynch film, you have to sometimes piece together the meaning of the stories and are sometimes left wondering what they meant at all...

I first discovered this book when one of my history professors recommended it. Now, I always keep it nearby when I write. It gives directions for writing great papers and contains the latest citation information for the Chicago, MLA, and APA styles (different teachers often prefer different styles). Also, Slade gives the information in a concise manner (only 297 full size pages). Because of this, I highly recommend it for those who write research papers frequently, especially college students. Here is a chapter summary:

1) Writing a Research Paper: This section explains the basics of writing a research paper and is very useful to the novice. It deals with choosing a topic, preparing a bibliography, library research techniques, organizing the paper, writing drafts, and proofreading. This chapter also includes sample research pages.

2) Elements of Theses and Dissertations: Slade tells how to write abstracts, make title pages, organize chapters, and arrange reference materials. This section also includes sample pages.

3) Quotations: This part teaches the reader how to use direct and indirect quotations, as well as proper punctuation and capitalization. She also gives examples from the 3 major styles.

4) Style and Mechanics: Slade explains in detail the style (e.g. diction, tense, unbiased language) and mechanics (e.g. spelling, italics, hyphenation) of a good paper.

5) Tables, Figures, and Computer Materials: This chapter demonstrates proper usage and placement of figures and tables (including those generated by computer). Sample figures are provided.

6) The Finished Copy: Slade recaps previous chapters, explains about equipment and supplies (e.g. paper quality) and gives typing and printing instructions.

7) Chicago Manual Style: This section explains how to do endnotes, footnotes, and bibliographies in this style. There are examples from all types of sources (books, periodicals, etc.). She even includes electronic and web sources.

8) MLA Style: Slade explains how to cite works in the text and properly create a bibliography in the MLA style. As with the Chicago, she gives examples from many types of sources, including the internet.

9) American Psychological Association Style: This section demonstrates how to cite sources in the text and the bibliography according to the APA guidelines. It too explains how to cite many types of sources, including internet and electronic.

There is an appendix that includes legal citations and state abbreviations, a glossary of terms, and an index.
