A splendid interfaith, interdisciplinary study of Lewis and Chesterton, with numerous contributions by leading lights in the field. I did a longer review of this volume in the "Fellowship of Catholic Scholars Newsletter" (March 1996), p. 42. There is an earlier simliar volume by the same editors called "RIDDLE OF JOY", also highly recommended.

This is a well designed book, the packaing, feel and printing are excellent quality. Not all of the drawings are reproduced in color but, for the price I can't complain. This is not a text heavy book, if you admire Tuttles work and understand it you will appreciate what this book does. How it shows the rough and ripped edges and the shadows so important to the work.

LIKE 60's THROUGH 80's TV ? WANT A GOOD LAUGH ? COULDN'T PUT THIS ONE DOWN. A VERY UNIQUE BOOK IDEA. YA GOTTA READ THIS ONE. JUST PLAIN CRAZY/FUNNY ! I BOUGHT SEVERAL COPIES AS GIFTS. A GREAT BOOK TO TAKE TO GATHERINGS OF FRIENDS (who have a way-out sense of humor).

Ten Nights In A Bar Room is the second most popular book of the mid-19th century after Uncle Tom's Cabin. It captures the spirit of the Temperance movement which fought the uncontrolled abuse of alcohol in American society. It is a melodrama, written almost as a play, and would be easy to adapt for stage performance from this book. It was performed many times as a play in in the 19th century by traveling theater companies. It is an easy read and is both revealing and unintentionally humorous. For those interested in understanding the mind-set of our ancestors, this book is very useful as primary source materal. It's values are those of the prim-and-proper class of people who felt themselves the mainstay of society. It's a fun read for history buffs and a great resource for period theater.
