I highly recommend this book! It was an awesome read! I've just recently discovered these 3 authors ~ they are great! I can't decide which story I liked best...they're all good in their own way.

This book is not highly sensual, but it's great nonetheless. Please give it a try...I'm glad I did! =)

This encyclopedic book provides an excellent overview of basic design for artists, graphic designers, illustrators, etc.
It covers all of the bases and has great pictures, with works by contemporary artists as well as masters such as Picasso, Caravaggio etc. Also includes a dozen interviews with contemporary artists, who discuss their artwork and talk about their careers. A great introduction and considering the number of color pictures, a very reasonable price.

Tom is a very, very funny, funny man. His sense of humour is quite warped -- which suits me fine.

For many years, Tom was the managing director of Trafford Publishing's European operation -- working from an office in Drogheda, Ireland. Trafford Publishing was the company that pioneered "print on demand" (POD) as a modern method of publishing books. Trafford's office in the Irish town of Drogheda used to be in an
old decommissioned church on the site of a medieval monastery
where monks once created the famous illuminated manuscripts
for Europe's nobility and upper class, using quill pens and ink.
That was literally the original 'print-on-demand' process!

To give you a flavour of Tom's writing, I'll quote something that is NOT in his LIFE OF REILLY, but that is in a book I recently published about book marketing, Book Marketing DeMystified: Enjoy Discovering the Optimal Way to Sell Your Self-Published Book, Practical advice from the inventor of print-on-demand (POD) publishing...

"Gentlepeople,
on Wednesday, we had one book launch here twice. I know
that last sentence doesn't make sense, but it's true.
Our author Joe Coyle [Athletics in Drogheda 1861-2001] made book launching history as his book had to
be launched twice in one night because of the huge numbers that
turned up. Joe sent out over 400 invitations for an event that was
taking place in a room with a capacity of 200.
The countdown to launch time was only ten
minutes when it was suddenly realized that the
booked room (upstairs) was full to capacity, while
the stairs, the hall and the foyer were all packed
full of people. And cars were still arriving in the
car park outside. Everybody, their grannies, dogs,
cats and even their imaginary friends and alter egos had decided
to come.

The overflow - another 200 odd people (very odd, trust me)
were hastily ushered into a separate unprepared room downstairs
and waited for the first launch to be over. The principal speakers
then flew downstairs, rewound and pressed play - again.
The speakers included the Mayor of Drogheda and the President
of the Athletic Association of Ireland, who kindly agreed
to perform their speaking duties twice, once upstairs and once
downstairs. Anchor man for the evening, well-known local commentator,
certified madman and Ireland office head, Tom Reilly,
flew the Trafford flag by (in athletic parlance) 'running' the show
and keeping both launches 'on track.'
It's a typical example of Irish eccentricity - launching a book
to be sure, to be sure.
Goodbye from the Emerald Isle,
regards, Tom Reilly"

I was coming back from lunch with friends when we saw the cover of this book posted on the author's door (we're in the same department). Back in the office, I looked it up on the internet and found some samples. I was laughing my head off - I quickly printed them out, and then literally ran to meet my friend to show him. We met halfway in the stairwell as he was coming up to tell me about them himself - one word was spoken, "Warkentin", and we started laughing again. We were reciting limericks in the stairwell for almost 10 minutes. I brought that same small sample to the pub that Friday, and they were a hit. Later on, a reading was arranged where Dr. Warkentin was able to share more of this material...the night will not be forgotten anytime soon.

A good book to read to friends and inspire ones' own creativity. Definitely recommended.

I ordered this book with the specifice idea of having some short cute graph drawings my students could change into graphing calculator work and still get the same picture as with the pencil and paper method. I see several that will work fine for that purpose. Therefore, I rate the product 5 stars because it is exactly what I wanted and expected.

Literature and the Environment: A Reader on Nature and Culture has been an invaluable resource and platform for discussion in my high school literature class that centers around the natural world and man's place in it. The essays, poems, and excerpts avoid groupthink, polarization of issues, and are, for the most part, accessible to students.

Beautiful story about a little bear and his fear of the dark. Daddy Bear tries everything to help him out only to discover the little bear is really afraid of the "BIG DARK" outside. At which point the Daddy comforts little bear by showing him the beautiful full moon against the evening sky. I highly recommend purchasing the anthology with all 4 stories. Illustrations are works of art!

The Moppet Show
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-08
Marge Buell's single panel comic, Little Lulu, began in the Saturday Evening Post in 1935. Her unsinkable Moppet made her appearance in Dell Four Color comics beginning in 1945. "Sunday Afternoon" collects all the stories from four successive issues published in 1946 and 1947. Since the four color series alternated various characters, these issues were numbered 131, 139, 146, and 158. As with the hardcover series from Another Rainbow, these Dark Horse editions are reprinted in black and white line drawings with color covers. However, the edition I have of "Sunday Morning" is not like the Amazon picture; It has different cover art with a purple background and no volume number.

John Stanley storyboarded the Dell Marge's Little Lulu comics, but many staples of Stanley's later stories are not yet in place. The boys just got their clubhouse, Eddie was just introduced in issue 120, Annie is not yet Lulu's best friend, Tubby is not yet sleuthing aka The Spider. But Stanley's zany story sense is already apparent, and the clean, simple panels suggest Crocket Johnson's Barnaby.

Cars and horses co-exist in these stories, and it's the first time Lulu's seen a TV. One of the first stories Lulu tells Alvin is a story within a story. Lulu narrates her fantasy narrative, which jars against the "real" version shown in the panels (except that's also a story). "Lulu's Lamp" ends in a conundrum. "What would you have done?" asks Stanley, "well, that's what Lulu did." All of which only hints at what a Stellar job Stanley did on these comics. Lucky for us they're back in these reasonably priced editions of around 200 pages each, courtesy of Dark Horse.
