Wonderful for horse lovers and lovers of good storiesReview Date: 2009-01-06
momofahorseygirlReview Date: 2006-01-09
This book breaks down the stories by country and describes in detail the history of the breed of horse specific to that region and the story. It is a wonderful blend of fact and folklore with gorgeous illustrations. The stories are rich in detail but are not "fairy tales" nor are they about unicorns or flying horses or other horse-like animals. They are folktales about horses with special wisdom or magical powers.
I'd say this book wouldn't hold the attention of a typical 5 year old. Some stories are 2 or 3 pages long with only small illustrations that might become dull for a younger child.
But if your child is a fan of folklore and/or horses, he or she will love this book!

Charles Schulz brings to us again wonderful Peanuts humor.Review Date: 1998-12-06
More fun with the "Peanuts" gangReview Date: 2001-12-29
In the course of this book we get to experience both Christmas and Valentine's day with the "Peanuts" gang. There are a lot of antics involving Snoopy and his pal Woodstock. But my favorite extended storyline in the book involves Charlie Brown's decision to quit school in order to devote himself to making Snoopy happy. Anyone who has ever been devoted to a pet should be able to relate to this funny but tender plot.
"Peanuts" has always been a successful blend of humor and gentle philosophy, and that is true of this volume. "Make Way" is a treat for fans of Schulz's work.

Stranded On A Desert Island? Take These 2 Volumes Along!Review Date: 2003-08-10
This extraordinary 4,500 page collection contains Great Britain's finest literature from the Middle Ages through the 20th century. Included are selections from "Beowulf," Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales," works by Spenser (excerpts from all books of "The Faerie Queene"), Sir Thomas Malory, Shakespeare (including "The Tempest'), Marlowe ("Dr. Faustus," "Hero and Leander"), John Donne, and Milton. There are over 100 pages devoted to William Blake, including "The Book of Thel," and the entire "Night the Ninth" from "The Four Zoas." It also contains poems and prose by Wordsworth, Coleridge, Keats, Shelley, and Byron. And this is just a small sample.
In addition to the general editors Frank Kermode and John Hollander, the anthology has been edited and annotated by Harold Bloom, Martin Price, J.B. Trapp, and Lionel Trilling. The editors contribute brief period introductions, biographical and critical pieces for major authors, and essays preceding the major selections.
There are almost 300 wonderful illustrations included in the collection, representing important artists and their works for each period, that demonstrate the relationship between literary and visual images.
I have read through
this wonderful anthology many times over the years, and never fail to learn something new, something to excite my imagination,
with each reading. Highest Kudos!

Not just for art teachers!Review Date: 2006-02-18
Clear ideas and methods for utilizing a variety of hands-on techniques. The book is intended for children but is more suited to adults, specifically those who teach children.
Teachers! Parents! This is the best resource for Art!Review Date: 2000-03-09

Murals and Ballads - telling a story: Diego Rivera and E.B.White
Each poet and artist is given an interesting, child-friendly biography. There is a section called "making the connection," which guides the children through the theme to note the ways different artist/poets chose to express their vision. Last, but not least, each theme has a motivating writing and art project to go with it. In a world where less and less art, and less and less innovation are being supported in the schools, this is an ideal resource. It is a tool a teacher can fit into the day easily. It could provide a terrific substitute for a language handout or homework project.
Parents will find this a wonderful gift for their literary and artistic teenagers as well.
