You will certainly enjoy these really great books and you will also be glad you got them.. .. I got some great new insights, and along with that there is allot of good common sense stuff, but It's great to see commonsense affirmed and also reading and focusing on positive messages while we are bombarded with nativity all around us that lower our energy.. It's refreshing to get a good dose of this stuff...

THE starter set for Stuart Wilde

This is the perfect "starter set" for Stuie's works. It consists of three of his prior "thin" books (Miracles, Life Was Never Meant To Be a Struggle, Silent Power). Very good/inexpensive set to get a feel for Stuart and his style. Highly recommended. From here you might consider reading "Weight Loss for the Mind", then "Infinite Self". But wherever your path leads, the key is to follow it.

Good stuff, well organized, expertly written, deliciously translated. I can't recall the last time I was so utterly captivated by yet another myths/legends/folktales chrestomathy--and I do hold _quite_ the library of cultural anthropology and medieval literature.

Review Date: 2006-07-26
This chamrming collection of authentic Tibetan folklore reflects the enduring wisdom, engaging humor, and unique culture of the people of the legendary Land of Snows.

The Tibetans' love of storytelling is reflected in these folk narratives including:

* The Tibetan myth of creation, and stories of the origin of important dieties and ancient rulers.
* Some of the famous Jataka tales, stories of former lives of the Buddha, illustrating his practical wisdom and universal compassion.
* Stories of the release of a hero from animal form. reminiscent of Western fables such as "The Frog Prince."
* The most popular of all the time-honored legends of Tibet, the great epic of King Gesar of Ling, the warrior who became a national hero. Here the story of his birth and ascension to sovereignty are presented. To this day, Gesar symbolizes the hope of Tibetans that their country will know the rule of a just leader in a free realm once again.
* Parables, proverbs, verses and riddles.

Gleaned from an ancient oral tradition, these imaginative, colorful wisdom-filled tales will delight children and adults alike.

Hi from Barcelona:

This book shows a very exhaustive and general vision of the history, meaning, styles and places where totem poles has been erected in the west coast.
As a first approach this text overpases the highest expectations, but after you've read it all you've also got a respectful, lovely and acceptance feeling about all the first people tribes. And that's a very good thing to have after reading such a great book.

Excellent text for understanding the Coastal Indian Totems

This book is for anyone who wants to study or research the Coastal Indian Totem Pole. Written in an easy to read yet scientific style it is historically accurate, authoritative and comprehensive. It contains multiple drawings and colored plates illustrating the types of poles, their function and individual details. It is a must for the experienced artist who intends on carving a totem showing carving techniques, tools, pictures, animal subjects with an explaination of the meaning and placement of each. It even tells how to raise a carved totem. Available in paperback it has to be a best buy!

Receiving a copy of the book about the work that John David Mooney made as the first artist in residence to the Vatican in 500 years was akin to a comet being posted through my letterbox. This is a man with serious and big ideas who creates work with an understanding of place and beauty. I am excited about what I read and see of it. I will treasure my copy. Buy it and prepare to be starstruck.

John David Mooney has a heart and a genius that he couldn't hold back if he wanted to. If you don't already know this about him, you will after reading The Vatican Observatory and the Arts. The book not only speaks of his journey through life--it visually takes us along with him. Whatever your religion or beliefs, his book will add a magic and a light.

There is no way around the fact that there is no such thing as too much Wallace and Gromit. This wonderful little book should be a film! It has all the Wallace and Gromit modis operandi that we know and love.
As much as the rocket to the moon to have cheeze, this story with the submarine was so enjoyable. More Wallace and Gromit, please.

Find humor in the absurd;and we can all laugh.
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2004-08-23

If you've liked Art in the past, you'll enjoy this collection of his columns.Although published in 2003;there are a lot of old pieces dating back to 1991.His columns on everyday observations remain funny, but the political stuff has lost its luster. His columns on "Expert Witness" and "Suite Revenge" are typical of Art's wonderful humor.
Columns about Clinton,Starr,Lewinsky,Whitewater,Tripp,Gore and others make pretty dull reading today.Even Viagra humor is becomming dated.
Maybe what we can see from this book is that we have lost a lot of the good wit and humor we enjoyed in the days of Skelton,Carney&Gleason,Bunker,Carson,Laurel&Hardy,Hope, etc. These artists didn't have to resort to vulgarity and personal attack to get a laugh, and maybe it's time to return to real humor. Thanks,Art,you gave us a lot of good laughs.

simple, elegant humor

Review Date: 2002-10-18
In a remarkable journey, often nostalgic, Art is able to provide a sense of introspection through humor. Nobody escapes his treatment - senate, congress, diplomats, lobbyists, FBI, supreme court, presidents, talking heads, and the average "Joe". Often mixed with gentle irony, each "snippet" makes a point elegantly. His reflections on the Sep 11 tragedy is moving. The changing scenario with respect to homeland security and the new "thought processes" in Washington provides an opportunity to see the sometimes illogical aspects of our new lives. Overall, an excellent collection, reminding once again why Art is such a beloved personality in the newspaper world for such a long time. A must-read.

A flash back to the seventies through the eyes of a brilliant satirist
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-09
This book is a flashback to the seventies. There are mentions of the Camp David meetings between Jimmy Carter, Menachim Begin and Anwar Sadat. The Washington Redskins football team with Billy Kilmer, John Riggins, and Joe Theismann is also featured. My favorite cartoon is a four caption one, where the Redskins coach is standing in front of the bench and we see the backs of two players. In the first three captions, the names on the jerseys are Kilmer and Thomas and in the last caption, they are Theismann and Riggins. Only a long-time football fan will recognize the significance of the names. Billy Kilmer and Joe Theismann were quarterbacks and Duane Thomas and John Riggins running backs.
Trudeau possesses the skill that all good cartoonists must have, the ability to satire the world we find ourselves in a humorous and generally subtle way.

The continued misadventures of Duke as Redskin G.M.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-01-05
"We're Not Out of the Woods Yet" is the reply of Menachem Begin to Sadat's one-liner "Let us begin, Begin" as related to Roland Burton Hedley, Jr. as part of "Cabin Fever" the ABC Wide World Special Report on the Camp David Peace Accord. Actually, that important little part of modern world history is a minor part of this collection of "Doonesbury" cartoons from 1978-79, but the title still applies to most of Trudeau's daily strips in his book. Zonker wants to turn pro with is tan but California's Proposition 13 has closed the tanning clinics, Duke is doing a study on steroid by secretly putting them in the Gatorade of the Washington Redskins, and Congresswoman Davenport saddles Joanie with her old Law School nemesis Woodrow. On the lighter side, Boopsie is going to Memphis to "do" Elvis while Mike and Zonker check out the King Tut tour.

This volume is really a sequel to "But the Pension Fund Was Just Sitting There," in which Uncle Duke, finally released as the infamous "bald spy" who was the last (and unknown) of the Americans held hostage by the Iranians, becomes the General Manager of the Washington Redskins. However, his glory days may be over since he has been saddled with Riley, a young assistant (and nephew of the owner), who eventually rats out his boss to Rick Redfern. Now, Uncle Duke was never one of my favorite Doonesbury characters, but his tenure with the Redskins is one of my favorite longer-running Duke storylines. Besides, if Duke stays in one place long enough, can Honey be far behind? "We're Not Out of the Woods yet" is an above-average Doonesbury collection from the wicked imagination of G. B. Trudeau.

Just one review to this gem of a book so far? I can't believe it!
I loved it from beginning to end. Each time I feel I'm the only one suffering from corporatitis, I read it again and enjoy either the absolutely hilarious text and the funniest possible illustrations. Highy recommendable.
Now I'm glad that there are at least two good reviews... it deserves more!

The Sad Thing Is That I Have Worked at Companies Like This

Think of this as an 80s Dilbert. It's pre-cube and pre-Internet, but very, very funny. From the bumbling boss (Scott Adams did not create the Pointy Haired Boss) to the yuppie project manager in the business suit and heels, this book is full of familiar characters. I swear one of my bosses modeled for the manager, right down to the hairstyle.

From office morale to team building weekends to the war against the photocopier to corporate policy on stress management (I still giggle hysterically at some of those cartoons) this book is perfect for anyone who sometimes needs to see the funnier side of work.

By the way, this makes a great gift for a coworker moving on to greener pastures.

Bin Baby!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-14
This book is like a series of "Where's Waldo" games. There are a series of scenes, each spread across the seam between two pages, including Dizzyland, California, U.S.A.; Sydney, Australia; and Barcelona, Spain. Each scene contains certain people (such as "Bin Baby", his Ladketeers, and NSA Agent Dorsch and Patty Furst) and items (such as a scimitar, a landmine, a machinegun and a United Nations Map of Installations of Mass Destruction), as well as people and items specific to the scene, such as snails and frogs in France; bulls in Spain; and killer koalas, crocodiles and kangaroos in Australia!

Someone donated a copy of this book to the troops here in Iraq, and several soldiers were passing it around when I discovered it and liked it so much, that I ordered a copy of my own!

It provided me with plenty of entertainment while waiting in airports/at airbases on my way to and from the U.S.A. for my mid-tour leave, and I still haven't looked for Bin Baby in all of the scenes!

Excellent Parody of the Where's Wally (Waldo in North America) Series
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-15
I saw this book on the shelf and was immediately attracted to it thinking, wow has someone done a parody of the Where's Wally series replacing Wally (Waldo, North America) with the hide and seek champion coward Osama Bin Laden. That's exactly what this book is, in fact you not only have to find Osama, but a number of his henchmen as well, who are hiding in all the major cities around the world, New York, Paris, Sydney, Cairo to name but a few. It is also not just the bad guys the reader has to find. The concept of the humour of this book is playing on the fact that America can't find Osama, so you also have to find the American secret service agent as well, who obviously since he can't find the highest profile person on the planet may need help finding himself. You'll also need to find hidden weapons of mass destruction and other objects

Obviously extremist patriotic Americans with no sense of humour will not get the joke that is the concept of Where's Bin Laden but everyone else including most other Americans will have at least a smile on their faces when they first see this book. It is pretty much the same thing visually as the Where's Wally books if you just want it for the find an image amongst a lot large more complicated visual image, so if you were going to get one of those books but want a laugh as well I'd get this instead.

Each of the cities portrayed has a small blurb on why they are now terrorist targets such as Sydney because Australia supported the USA in invading Iraq so obviously the author has certain views that you may or may not agree with, but you can just ignore those text boxes and enjoy the book purely for its visual humour anyway.

The book achieves what it sets out to. I have no idea if Daniel Lalic is the Weird Al Yankovic of the picture book world. I can't compare it to other books of his as this is the only one I've ever come across. I can say though that without a doubt, if you take a copy of this to your workplace or wherever else, everyone will want to have a look at it. Many people will ask where did you get this? So if you have read it and shown it to everyone you know, you'll have no problem selling it onto someone else who wants to show it to their friends and getting your money back. Get a copy and check it out, it's a good laugh!
