James Buffington, authorPolitically Incorrect Liberal Obama Jokes: Funny Liberal Bashing Done in Good Humor; Barack Obama Jokes, Congress, Rev. Wright, & Democrats
"Tell me another one, just like the other one, tell me another one,dooo..."Review Date: 2006-01-22
Jeff Rovin comes to your rescue with a joke about any subject you can imagine. Not only does he give us 1001 jokes ,he covers the gamut ,so if you're looking for something suitable for or about the school,or one for or about the guys at the bar;you'll find one here.He also has come up with a novel method of showing where jokes can be found of a similar theme in the book.
Just to prove the point,a couple of my favorite things are birds,Rubik's Cubes and books,so here goes;
"Mary walked into the pet store and, after looking up and down the aisles, asked the proprietor for help.
'I'd like a box of birdseed,'said the lady.
'For what kind of bird?'he asked helpfully.
'Oh,I dunno,'the strange woman replied,
'Whichever will grow the fastest'.
"Q: What goes,Click,click,click click,did I get it?
Click,click,click,click,did I get it?
A: A blind person playing with Rubik's Cube."
"I don't know," the world- famous novelist said to his
editor."I just don't think my newer books are as good as
my earlier works."
"Rubbish," the understanding editor replied,"your writing
is the same as it ever was,It's your taste that's
improved."
Now if puns are your thing,he's got them too;
"Then there was the Happy Trails Recreation Camp, which
posted this sign after Labor Day:
'Clothed for the Winter'"
Now don't get the idea all the jokes are as corny as these,
for the really sizzling ones, you'll have to check out the
book. The book has 351 pages and half of them wouldn't pass the
Amazon Litmus Test.If you really want to have some fun;put a
cover on the book, read it and laugh as you travel on the
bus,train or plane.It's particularly helpful if you're
looking for a little exra elbow room.

It's Funny Because It's TrueReview Date: 2003-04-22
Here are some snippets which I enjoyed:
On the page where you would usually find acknowledgments or a
dedication, you will read instead
"An ineffective Christian never remembers to thank anyone under any circumstances. Might
as well learn that before you begin this book."
Habit 1: Dichotomize Your Life. Truly ineffective Christians apportion
their lives into secular and sacred components.
Habit 2: Make tolerance your god. Accept anything and everything. All viewpoints
are not only valid but also equal.
Habit 20: Seek the quick, self-help solution. Look for easy answers. Trust your instincts.
Habit
22: Make music the big issue. Base your musical taste only on style. He even includes a hymn:
Come, thou Fount of every
blessing
Give me what I want today.
Entertainment never ceasing
Paths of comfort line my way.
Lots of fun, but also much to chew on in this little gem.

That said, there are some drawbacks to the text.
1. He doesn't always mention some of the standard terminology normally used for the objects he creates. For instance, the word "tangent bundle" is never used, he instead uses different words for the equivalent idea. Not a big deal, but one should probably consult other texts to check the words normally used.
2. He works ONLY in Euclidean space or subsets thereof, where of course the del operators form a GLOBAL basis for the tangent bundle instead of the more common case where one works on a manifold and has only local coordinate charts available. Thus, although the reader sees tensor tranformation laws, s/he does not see a definition of a general tensor or Christoffel symbols. This shouldn't be a huge drawback since the case on manifolds is only an extension of this case and so the book is a great introduction to more advanced settings.
He also keeps track of when concepts can be extended to larger algebraic settings than the cases at hand. Great book!
