After looking high and low and all over ebay for the original series of Garfield, I got on Amazon and ordered the 'fat cat 3 pack' books. Much cheaper and a lot easier...I don't have 15-20 little books to contend with. Only 5 fat ones. My son loves them!

Very good

Lazy but lovable Garfield is at it again in this 3-pack of laughter, love, and lascivious locution. Master cartoonist Jim Davis pulls off this grand triumvirate with a chilling, icicle-like insight into the pathos of Everyman, invoking the spirit of Bil Keane in its depth and, dare I say, rivaling the Bible in its coded prophecies. The beauty of the Garfield series (excluding the movie) is Davis' ability to appeal to an 11-month-old's concrete operational brain while still stimulating even the most erudite of minds.

My favorite part of the Garfield mythos is Davis' masterful retelling of the trinity metaphor, with John (the Baptist?) as the befuddled messenger, Odie as the insipid follower and unwitting vessel, and our hero Garfield, ever the gluttonous cynic, preacher and puller-of-strings. But the coup de tat is the role of Lasagna as a Faustian devil bent on the seduction and destruction of America if not all of mankind. Personally, I think the character of Lasagna is the most dynamic in the series, despite its outward appearance as a simple baked pasta dish (beautifully rendered by Davis and his team of Svengali ink artists). If only we could understand the complexities of its layers, perhaps we could all take a step toward fathoming why it is we gobble up the things that matter most. Jim Davis, you have my utter awe. Two thumbs up!

I like Garfield because he is funny!
Garfield is the only comic strip I read.
I especially like the " Fat Cat 3 Pack"s 'cause there are these little
"Funnies" between the chapters. Reading Garfield comics also exercises
your vocabulary skills. My favorite part of each pack is when Garfield celebrates Christmas.

This is the first and best Garfield book I've ever read. I've grown up with it, and know many cartoons by heart. A few of the best ones are when Garfield wakes up Jon, telling him that Garfield will do ALL the napping, and when he chases a giant hot dog and ice cream trucks, hoping they are meals to his proportion. If comic books could win Newbery award, this would be it.

A lot of excitemet and humar this is a great book for any

24th Garfield Book Is Funny
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-05-07
Jim Davis, the author and illustrator of the Garfield comic strip, has a very wry and ironic sense of humor. Garfield the cat keeps his aloof perspective on the world of his human servant, Jon, and his silly, not-too-intelligent companion Odie. We are the beneficiaries of Garfield's point of view to the point of frequent laughter.

This book is a collection of strips drawn in 1992. Here is a selection of the vignettes for your consideration. In the opening of a strip Jon runs yelling "Giant rat!" Garfield watches nonchalantly as Jon runs off strip. Garfield then wonders whether he mentioned that he shaved Odie. In another strip Garfield intrigues us with his Birdbath of Death. In yet another strip Garfield discovers that a stack of cookies he just ate may have included a coaster.

Books about Garfield are consistently humorous, often to the point of needing to laugh out loud. Be sure you read this book alone. If not, everyone will think you are crazy for laughing so much. Enjoy!

A tremendously hilarious book!

Garfield's Jolly Holiday 3-pack is a great book. It's just like the other Garfield Fat Cat 3-Packs, but it's in color. Also, they are based on television episodes of Garfield. My favorite was 'A Garfield Christmas.' I loved the price, and highly recommend it for holiday gifts.

This is probably the most clearly written self-contained book on the basics of differential geometry. The author does a great job explaining the ideas behind purely mathematical 'dry' constructions. On the other hand, everything is defined correctly and precisely. A very readable and useful book with the perfect combination of formal math. and intuition. I would recommend it to students in theoretical physics area, together with the Nakahara's fantastic book.

Self contained introduction to techniques of classifying manifolds.
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-10
This text is phenomenally easy to read and well organized. The author starts you on a journey by first explaining the importance and power of classifying manifolds namely by certain invariants preserved by certain mappings ( diffeomorphisms ).

For example, like Euler, we could count the number of holes in the surface and using this combinatorial method we are led to homology theory.

Or like Gauss, we could use a differentiation and integration to come up with the idea of curvature as an intrinsic feature of the surface.

Modern approaches use differential forms to represent homology and cohomoly groups.

The author also deals with fibre bundles demonstrating their importance in analyzing manifolds specifically how the number of fibre bundles possible with given Lie groups as structure groups over the manifold can be answered by characteristic classes such as the Chern and Pontrjagin classes. The use of differential forms is indispensible.

Perhaps the most satisfying aspect of this book is that it clarifies the notions of connection, connection form, curvature, curvature form for manifolds and fibre bundles.

There are plenty of exercises to boot.

Please indulge in this book. Allow yourself a few minutes to return to middle school when farts were truly funny. This book is a riot. We have it as a coffee table piece in our cabin up north. We love it when someone absently picks it up and starts paging through it. Typically, they can't control the laughter. They try, but...

Waiting for the sequel..

Unless you wanted the classic by Margaret Mitchell or the newer book by Alexandra Ripley and made a typo in your search entry, you know exactly what you are going to get. A somewhat nice collection of comics for those with a more anatomic sense of humor. Good for a few light chuckles and a couple of belly laughs.
