Well put together, very encompassing, good explanations...... It doesn't need a paragraph to describe it. If you like Da Vinci or want to learn more about him, this is a great place to start!

I never imagined that through a "child book" I would learn about this master-genious and moreover to be capable to comprehend the "details" about his art. I really enojoyed reading this book, I learn more about his famous paints and why they are considered pieces of art. I was motivaded to read more over the other great art's men such as Picasso or Michael Angel Buonorrati; I never thought that could be an easy way to understand this genious. I strongly recommend this book and the other series too; you can not only learn but also share with your child and encourage him to develop his talents or just enhance your "general culture" reading this great book. The talent consist in explaing complex ideas using a "simple language" that everybody can understand. There is not reason to became so sophisticated and not be able to "share" what you learn with the rest of the world. When you learn a good joke you want to tell the rest about it; it is meaningless if you just keep it for yourself...

One of the best on Leonardo.

This excellent book focuses on Leonardo's drawings in the Royal Library at Windsor. Everyone has seen the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, but Leonardo's greatest achievments are found in his drawings. Vivid HIGH QUALITY color reproductions are accompanied by insightful commentary and historical/biographical information. The book covers the whole breadth of Leonardo's intellectual development. 100 color drawings by history's greatest draftsman, and indeed one of most powerful minds the world has ever seen. As the book says "...[Leonardo's] drawings [are] the pure expression of his genius, boundless and magnificent."

Even though I've read a ton of other warhammer related books I found a lot of new stuff in here. Even when they mentioned a previously mentioned character there is always something new.

As others have said the artwork is amazing and There is plenty of it.

An excellent, but disturbing, Warhammer resource.

Previous reviews have already mentioned how informative and well-written the book is, and I can only agree with them. However, the front flap mentions that this book is for mature readers only, and they are not kidding... Many of the drawings and even some of the writings are the stuff of nightmares. (Which is only fitting, given the subject of the book.) Read at your own risk.

This book carries a steep price but in my estimation is more than worth picking up. I've been a fan of Warhammer since I was 8. I love the old system and this new system. If you have never seen any of the info presented in the old (1st edition) Chaos books then this book is for you. It covers all four Chaos gods. There is a little bit of Warhammer 40K presented here. Most of the info is WFRP. The artwork is as impressive as ever and this book is filled with it. Now for the FAIR WARNING. This book does NOT contain ANY statistic info. Any number junkies out there would want to avoid this book. I though it would be nice to have all the info on Chaos in one book including stats but oh well. It is a good read. It is written as if it is an actual book of research about chaos. Quite fun to be reading something in it and see the researchers hand writing in different ink making notes to things he referenced earlier or correcting himself or even getting a nose bleed while trying to figure out choas calculations. On the nose bleed page there several drops of blood that stain the page. It is a massive book, well bound, and in hardback with a soft cover flap.

Wow. That's really all I can say to sum up this collection. Wow. I did not purchase the individual volumes and only became aware of the series recently when I found a listing for this book. As the description states, this book is essentially an overview of Warhammer's four Chaos gods. Now, there have been several books released covering similar territory, but never have I seen one so well done. The twin Realms of Chaos volumes put out by Games Workshop in the early 1990s are almost as good, but Liber Chaotica just oozes a style, atmosphere, and character unlike anything I've ever seen in a gaming suppliment. It's worth mentioning that this book contains absolutely no game rules for either Warhammer Fantasy Battles or Warhammer 40K (in fact, it makes no mention of the 40K universe). This fact makes it more a resource for players of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay than the wargaming crowd. But my god, what a resource! The whole book is written as if it were penned by the Imperial scholar Richter Kless, a device that worked quite well in the old Earthdawn and Shadowrun suppliments from FASA. The idea is that you get an educated overview of Chaos from the perspective of a character who lives in the Warhammer world. What makes it work so well in Liber Chaotica is that Kless actually goes back and adds handwritten annotations to his work. Over the course of the book's five volumes, readers get to watch his sanity slowly deteriorate as he exposes himself to the subtle, corrupting influence of Chaos. The Horrors Sourcebook for FASA's Earthdawn was written (and written well) in the same fashion, but that book's relative brevity robbed it of the impact that Liber Chaotica manages to achieve.
The book itself is a work of art. It is well bound and lavishly (and, at times, disturbingly) illustrated. I simply cannot recommend it enough to anyone who has an interest in the forces of Chaos in the Warhammer world. Buy it before it goes out of print, you will not be disappointed.

This book is one of the funniest books I've read this year ranking up there with David Sedaris' NAKED. The book starts off hilariously and doesn't let down. It is a cynical look at post-college life and pokes fun at the Don't Sweat the Small Stuff type of advice books. This is truly a very funny book that will make you laugh out loud heartily... It is a MUST read!!!

Carl Kozlowski has done it again with his wit and style of humor all his own. This book is the antithesis of all of Oprah's Remembering Your Spirit shows. (How approppriate that both these authors, also, come out of Chicago.) This book leaves the reader laughing so hard that he/she is crying, because of its nonstop irreverence. It is a MUST READ!

Tim Joyce just ROCKS! Okay, flattery aside, this book is full of witty and pithy observations that will help the naive people bravely entering the world for the first time as a young adult really "get it" and gives some very helpful survival insight.

Oh, yeah, it is FUNNY too!

I expect this book to become THE standard fare as a graduation gift for high school and college grads alike. This book picks up where Dr. Suess with his "Oh, the Places You'll Go" leaves off. It is also a great read for anyone about to face new challenges.

Did I mention it was FUNNY?

I have 2 sons, ages 9 and 11, and they both love Lois Burdett's Shakespeare books! These books make the story lines accessible while providing the flavor of Shakespeare through the wonderful rhyming couplets. I first used one of these books to "preview" the story of MacBeth to my younger son, who was going to be in a children's musical production of the story. He loved the book and often asks me to reread it to him, and we have since acquired several other of the Burdett titles. My sons also enjoy the whimsical illustrations and sidebars done by the children.

Hello, my name is Shannon, and I have a Shakespeare comprehension problem. I cannot elicit any meaning out of "thither he in and me within," or "wherefore art thou," so when my AP lit class delved into MacBeth, I was already waving the white flag.
Then my mom pulls out this book we picked up at Folger Shakespeare Library in D.C. She tells me a teacher wrote a poem about MacBeth for 2nd graders to understand--she had her 2nd grade class draw the pictures in them. Okay, I need all the help I can get, so I acquiesce.
And this book is incredible. The poem is fiercely creative and original, the drawings are such a hoot, and I am understanding the entire play to the point that I am acing quizzes and writing high reviews on Amazon for MacBeth (as I'm doing now). Some people may be recommending this for tiny tots getting into Big Will. I'm calling out to all HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WHO WANT A LITTLE HELP!!! Get this book. Trust me.

I am a third grade teacher on Long Island. Last year I introduced three of Willaim Shakespeare's plays into our classroom. My children loved Macbeth. We studied Macbeth, The Tempest and Hamlet. The way Mrs. Burdett wrote in rhyming couplets really made the reading enjoyable! I plan on using her books throughout my teaching career. Thank you Lois Burdett! Shakespeare can be fun thanks to you.

What a wonderful way to introduce Shakespeare to children! I used this book as a third grade teacher to teach inner city kids about Macbeth. It was amazing to hear the students discussing all of the characters and their actions. They were proud of themselves for learning about Shakespeare "like high school kids." If you make it fun, they will have fun!

What makes this book from the usual gang of idiots at "MAD" magazine different is that it is not a reprint of choice material. It is, instead, a revised edition of the 1984 version of "MAD's How to Be a Successful Dog," which may or may not have been a reprint of choice material from "MAD" magazine. I assume so because this is the first "original" volume "MAD" that I have come across.

"MAD: How to Be a Successful Dog" is aimed at the "misinformed canine" in need of guidance as well as any dog owners who stumble upon this look at their relationship from the other side. The book is written by Spot, but told to Larry Siegel, the Emmy Award winning writer whose previous claim to fame had been replacing Hugh Hefner as the editor of "Shaft," the University of Illinois humor magazine. So Siegel has been waiting a long time to have a successful comeback. The book is illustrated by John Caldwell, a regular contributor to "MAD" Magazine, who won be over with the drawing on the table of contents of a dog wearing a t-shirt that says: "MY DAD PEED ON A GIANT CALIFORNIA REDWOOD AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS LOUSY T-SHIRT."

The book provides a comprehensive look at a dog's life, dealing not only with critical topics like "The Importance of Cute" and "Choosing the Right Master," but dealing in a forthright manner with the dark side of being a dog, such as "The Fine Art of Living with Guilt" and "Facing Up to Punishment." The book is filled with practical advice in terms of what to lick and when, three reasons why not to waste time chasing cats, and when to bark while traveling in a car. Spot ends with a chapter entitled "Everything You Have to Know About Sex--So Why Ask" that talks not only about the importance of engaging in meaningless small-bark but the problems of trying to light a couple of cigarettes with your paws when it is all over. At that point there is nothing left to talk about and Spot leaves his readers to return to the dog-eat-dog world from whence they came.

WARNING: This book is not intended for younger readers, even if they are being weaned on "MAD" Magazine's brand of satire. Spot know what the term is for female dogs and he is not afraid to use it. Of course, if your kids gets to the end of the book and is reading about doggie sex, one little five-letter word is hardly going to do much additional damage.

MAD produced over 200 paperbacks and this one was one of the best. Larry Siegel hits the mark about dog ownership. Angelo Torres did the art for the original release for Warner books. John Caldwell steps in for this release and does a great job.

Have you ever been annoyed by the unshakeable, in-your-face PERFECTION of Martha Stewart, queen of the perfect households? After listing the names by which she is often called ("Martha de Sade") she gets down to business: how to be like her in every respect.

The "Papal Visit" I wasn't crazy 'bout, but that definitely had some hilarious moments, including a sidebar that describes her pilfering other people's figurines and knicknacks. "Garden Party" includes the mind-numbing recipes for "Hand Picked Field Salad" which will make you cry; and the flambe-related Smoked Woodchuck.

In the matter of taste and refinement, nothing can beat the "circumcision day" chapter, with recipes that will make you shriek. And for Valentine's Day, Martha shows us how to souse and seduce... or just souse. Then she flits back to her childhood for "Mother's Day," going over various "regular" meals by her mama. The next chapter describes how to have a beach cookout, with one of the worst fish visuals I've ever seen!

"Christmas/Holiday Decorating" describes how you can horrify your friends and neighbors with perfect holiday decorating; the piece de resistance, however, is the chapter on Death and what to do if one of your guests dies ("Quickly, while you still can, shape and level the deceased's hand to hold a serving tray and begin setting out hors d'oeuvres..."

This book is written in a bitingly satirical style, and is graced by various straight-faced photos of "Martha" taking the necessary actions, such as preparing a tasteful lined coffin or cheerfully roping a date. And the cover is just a delight! As is this book!

(If you are a die-hard fan of Martha, however, do not read this book. Ever. You will explode)

MAP really works
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-11-14
Having read every other book on anxiety and book on the market, I was reluctant to pick up yet another. Much to my surprise, the MAP book was totally different and -- best of all -- by working through it with a therapist I was able to rid myself of panic attacks and reduce my anxiety level substantially. We didn't delve into my past; the focus was entirely on handling the physical and cognitive manifestations of panic.

The premise of the MAP treatment is three-pronged: to desensitize yourself to the physical symptoms commonly attached to panic attacks by deliberately bringing them on (one at a time!) in a controlled manner, to make relaxation techniques immediately accessible during an 'attack', and to work with the thoughts that often accompany panic disorder, whether or not you are aware of them.

For example, if dizziness is one of your key symptoms, then one MAP exercise is to spin around in a chair in a safe place and manner that you control to induce dizziness, then practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing right there and then.

I thought I knew all about relaxation techniques, but I was wrong. What I have learned about doing progressive relaxation, abdominal breathing, and visualizations made an immense difference.

I can say the same about the cognitive training. The trick of asking myself "what are the odds?" of a catastrophic event happening has stopped many a panic attack before it began.

In short, if you are looking for a different way to handle panic disorder and anxiety, give MAP a try.

It works

I expected a small book when I received it thanks to the reviews. As an artist/sculptor this book was fantastic. It shows my favorite Michelangelo statue in 150 different camera angles and zooms in on detailed areas that you wont see in any other book. It's an excellent study of drapery, composition, and the human form and flesh in marble.I only wish more outstanding sculptures of the world were given this much visual coverage . Artists who want to see true mastery of material will love this as a study reference. It also does give a short history of it's creation and subsequent damage(by a crazed lunatic)and its restoration. The book is entirely in black and white and must be seen to be believed.

When I first recieved it, I was rather suprised about the size of the book, about 4x6 inches. However, I found many beautiful images inside. I have heard that there is a larger edition of the book if you would want to look into that. This bokk provides images that were taken before the Pieta was to be crated *for what reason I'm not really certain*. It shows all different views, closeups, and details that you wouldn't even imagine. It also has a few pictures of the restorations and some of the damaged areas after the 1970s attack. Very wonderful book for meditation and for aiding reports and such.

This is a large book with excellent artwork, diagrams, cross sections and photographs. The text is well written, instructive and, best of all, easy to follow. I have several books about Whales and Dolphins which were designed purely as reference material. This, however, is a book you can sit down, read and enjoy.

The list of 11 contributors and their individual qualifications is very impressive. Each of these brings their individual knowledge and experiences of zoology, biology and research etc to this book and, in so doing, combine to make it a most authoritative work. Even the book's two artists have a great experience and knowledge of the creatures they paint - one of whom is also a biologist. That artwork, incidentally, is quite outstanding and shows aspects of certain whales' behaviour that could never be caught on camera.

The book is laid out in an easy-to-follow format. Part of the wide-ranging Introduction includes that all important topic "What are Whales" - which, after all, some people still think are nothing more than very big fish! Having set the scene quite expertly, we then move on to the different categories of Whales and Dolphins and are treated to excellent descriptions of; Baleen, Right, Gray, Rorqual, Toothed and Sperm Whales before coming on to those smaller species. Here we have; Narwhal, Beluga, Irrawaddy, Beaked & Bottlenose Whales, Pilot & Killer Whales, Oceanic Dolphins, Porpoises and finally River Dolphins.

In summary, I couldn't think of any aspect of the subject of this book's title which was not adequately covered in the content. An excellent book for both the professional and amateur with an interest in these incredible creatures.

I have a degree in art and education and am a home-school mom. I have used many arts and crafts books but can usually only find one or two projects in each book that is actually worth doing. This book however, is the exception. My children and I have done many of these projects and fully intend to complete the rest.

Beautiful projects that can be given as gifts!

I checked this book out from the library amongst many other craft books because I needed ideas to teach a class. This book was full of ideas that were easy and nice enough to be given as gifts to friends or parents. The pressed flower projects are beautiful. I've added this book to my wish list.

Execellent craft ideas for the young children.

My 8 year old daughter brought this book home from her school library and was excited by many of the projects. From a parent's point of view it was great to have a book with achievable craft projects which yield items the child can be proud of and parents will happily display. I'm ordering it now!
