Globalization---Myths and RealitiesReview Date: 2002-10-03
An Excellent ReadReview Date: 2001-12-29
Brilliant Injection of Realism into Fog of ControversyReview Date: 2001-03-26
Rugman provides examples of how globalization fails (Disney, Saatchi and Saatchi) as well as success stories (ACER) and an analysis of how 20 of the world's multi-national corporations actually operate - i.e., with a strong regional and local presence.
We covers the role of the WTO (demise imminent), protectionism (NAFTA and EU), health and evironmental restrictions, and positions the dot com dream of internet-driven wealth as being one of media hype. There is no single global culture he says, and the new mantra really should be "Think Regional. Act Local. Forget Global".
This book is a brilliant demolition act on the false promises of globalization and also a stinging riposte to the doom-mongering paranoia of the Starbuck's trashers of Seattle and the McLibel crybabies.
Well written, clear, forthright, and with relevant examples this book is a must for students of globalization and international economics everywhere

A wonderful classic for any ageReview Date: 2000-01-31
The Babar books contain some of the most charming and entertaining drawings and storylines of any children's books ever written. Proof is that as one grows older, their appeal seems to grow rather than diminish. Although great in any language, Babar is best of all in its original French. The text is simple enough that even those with only a modest French reading level should be able to enjoy this book.

the best book on (macro)economics I've ever read !Review Date: 2002-07-26
At that time, the book was new and contained all the most recent developments in the journals (it ends with hysteresis - well explained and at that moment a brand new topic in the journals).
But what I find more important is that this is the only book I read where all those journal-stuff was fitted into a coherent frame-work; for the first time I really understood what macro-economics (and their micro foundations) was all about.
Up till then, I had seen only fragmented pieces of macro theory and here these authors came with a coherent view, which would have taken myself years to fit together, and I was sorry that this was not the handbook I had at university.
I don't follow-up this field anymore, and the book has not been updated anymore since then (a pity I think) but I write this review out of gratitute for the insights the authors gave me: I finally realized that in this book all the pieces were fitted together and allowed me to really understand macro-economics.
Personally, I can only recommend it.

Backroad Mapbooks: Southwestern AlbertaReview Date: 2007-07-17
This book also contains a very detailed reference section with information on fishing regulations and fishing tips; lake and river paddling routes (including put in and take out areas); parks and campgrounds; hiking, walking, and sightseeing trails; wildlife viewing areas, and winter recreation areas. Within each of these sections, various areas of southwestern Alberta are explored with detailed entries on particular locations, sites, and areas. This part of the book will be particularly useful to those visiting the area as well as residents looking for something new to do.
As an archaeologist, I do a lot of back road and oilfield access trail driving. Usually, the development or survey map I am given is in really bad shape and usually twenty or thirty years out of date. Therefore, I usually have to guess how to get to my project area. This takes up extra time that could be better used on site. Using this map though, I now have a good idea of the exact oilfield roads to take to get to my sites. I even have an idea of how good of road conditions I can expect on these roads saving me a good deal of valuable time.
In this way, the map portion of this guide will be particularly helpful for those working in the oilfield industry. This book actually shows many of the existing back roads and oilfield roads so that the reader can quickly find a way into his or her project area. I know of only one other map book with such detail. This other book retails at over $250, making Backroad Mapbooks: Southwestern Alberta much more economically reasonable.
More than a map bookReview Date: 2005-08-24
Extremely detailed maps show hiking trails, boat launches, hang gliding spots, horse back riding trails, out of the way campgrounds, etc. Separate sections on trails, fishing, paddling and parks/campgrounds with descriptions are cross indexed. If you can put the pieces together, the total amount of information in this book is impressive

The Must Have Guide to ChinaReview Date: 2008-04-14
Before "China Stock Guru" I had read every book on the Amazon bookshelf about the Chinese economy and investing in China without feeling I got the whole picture. But this is the only one that has it all. There's no bigger money-making story in the world than the sudden emergence of the world's second biggest economy but no book before this one has brought the whole picture together. It is a huge event...akin to the emergence of the U.S. industrial economy more than a century ago. Who wouldn't have wanted to invest on the ground floor of that?
Of course China is so much different from America and investment there requires special knowledge and background...the kind of understanding that Trippon seems to have in spades. Trippon has done a good job of taking a picture of this huge economic/social development and boiling it down into clear, understandable size, providing a practical and usable perspective for dedicated investors who have an appetite to seek new opportunities while the U.S. is having a tough time economically.
Becoming Your Own China Stock GuruReview Date: 2008-07-31
The Book entitled "Becoming Your Own China Stock Guru" is amazing. It is a "must read book". It ought to be required reading.
Well written, easy to understand, and it is full of useful information for both lay and professional investors who want to learn more about important but little known facts regarding today's China.
The handsome volume delivers what the sub-title promises to provide for those who are looking for the ultimate investor's guide to profiting from China's Economic boom.
But the book offers much more than just technical investment advice that helps the investor to build a stock portfolio. Make no mistake, it does so with great attention to detail, but in addition, the reader gets hard to find, valuable background information. The strategic information presented was carefully researched in China, by the author and his permanent staff at multiple locations.
I was impressed by the logical and systematic way the author explains, step by step, the reasons why the Chinese economy will continue to thrive, and among others predicting the end of the U.S. economic supremacy in a few decades to come.
As the U.S. economy sputters, the book presents a solid case for investing in the Chinese economy, but wisely.
The book provides helpful advice to investors who want to profit from these investments and to do safely, and successfully.
The author provides a roadmap to successful investing in China, and explains investment strategies that should be avoided.
The author's successful track record in investing in China is well documented.
Jim Trippon's top rated "The China Stock Newsletter" has been among the most successful and best investment newsletters during 2007. Who says so?
"The Hulbert Financial Digest", which is a completely independent, impartial and authoritative rating service that arms you with the facts about stock and mutual fund investment letter performance.
Beyond the investment advice presented, Jim Trippon' book makes interesting reading about China, its rich history, economics and culture. It helps the reader to comprehend the enormous opportunities that are ahead in one of the world's largest fast growing economies.
This book is a winner, and I can highly recommend it.
