Good introductory book with plenty of examples. Good layout too. Many different options trading techniques are discussed, each with an indication of how risky it is. It even suggests leaving some of the more advanced techniques to the professionals, or more experienced traders - good advice.

understandable explanation of why you care about options.

Yes, As a beginner I can confidently say I know what option is, it's uses and the risk involve. The Author did not only explain the principle but gave practicable example everyone can relate to. All in simple and plain English, you don't need to have been to a school of economy to know what an option is. With the help of this book, I can't look stupid when others uses terminologies relating to option. Keep up the good work Joseph.

Finally an option book to be proud of

Mr. Walker is clear and concise in his depiction of how the options markets work. He details various strategies and makes options investing understandable to those new to it.

In my 11 years as a futures investor, broker, and author, I have never seen someone with as much grasp of options investing as Mr.Walker and have the capability to explain it.

This is one of the best books that I have ever read. It wonderfully portrays two sides of town torn about by a seeming abundant source: water. ok im tired of typing..its good just get it you wont be dissappointed and if u dont like it ill buy it back from you for 4 bucks

Quite simply one of the most lyrical books

Jean De Florette along with Manon Des Sources are two of the most lyrical, heartbreaking books that I own. I urge anyone who is comfortable reading French to read these books.

Each book stands on its own but the story which begins in Jean De Florette moves to its conclusion in Manon Des Sources

These two books along with the 4 volumes of Marcel Pagnol's autobiography: La Gloire De Mon Pere, Le Chateau De Ma Mere, Le Temp Des Secrets and Le Temps D'Amour will transport you to a time and place that no longer exist but are not so far from our own.

Those who try and love these books and are familiar with the films may want to try these other Marcel Pagnol film classics: The Fanny Trilogy which is comprised of: Marius, Fanny and Cesar - I strongly recommend the original with Raimu,Pierre Fresnay, Orane Demazis rather than any later version and La Femme De Boulanger. All of these are availble as plays in book form as well.

Great Book!

If you are looking for a first french read then this is it! Not only is the story (and the sequel "Manon des Sources") great, the language is very easy to understand for a person who feels confident speaking and understanding French and wants to take it up a notch.

These stories are an interesting study of the human condition with a prominance of irony that makes the effect of the book's theme quite impactful. The jist of the plot is that a hunchback named Jean comes with his wife and daughter to inherit a house and farm. His neighbours are to be Ugolin and Cesar, who tend to value money over other people's welfare. Knowing that an heir will soon be arriving to live on the land, Ugolin and Cesar plug up a spring of water that exists on the neighbouring property in order to ensure discouragement and limited success for the new owner (Jean). The greedy men hope that they will then be able to by the land from the hunchback for a cheap price, and then use it for their profit. Manon de Source (or Manon of the Spring) is a continuation of Jean de Floretter, and focusses on the hunchback's daughter, Manon, and provides a more satisfying end than the first story for its reader.

Okay...i just finished this book today and I thought it was awesome!! I'm just like Dana when it comes to wanting the romance and stuff..not necessarily in paris..but romance all the same. I absolutely loved this book and thought it was great how alex and dana found everything they were looking for in each other. The book just warmed my heart and made me want to go home, call my b/f and tell him that i loved him. It was a great book, and I highly reccomend it. I, personally, will read it severeal more times (...)

All Dana wanted was a romance in Paris, and what does she get? Boring Alex Turned Johnson. This is NOT what she had planned, and now he's ruining all her plans to get a French boyfriend. What Dana doesn't know is that Alex has a whole other side to him.... a side that he's afraid to show. Before long, Dana and Alex find themselves with the same problem- falling for each other. They know that they are so wrong for each other, but it turns out that their feelings were so right....

This book was excellent. Dana and Alex are so different from each other, but the attraction between them is set very well in this story. The characters weren't clueless like so many of them are these days. I was especially happy because of the pace the author gave the book. She set every place and occasion as if it really did happen. It was awesome.

A FIVE-STAR GUIDEBOOK!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-25
Many Americans and Britons have eaten Indian foods in the United States and Britain, where Indian restaurants are increasingly a large part of the culinary scene. Despite the popularity of Indian restaurants in the West, travelers to India often retreat to the "comfort" of their hotel restaurants rather than venturing out to eat at the small, family-run restaurants and street stalls where some of the best Indian food is to be had. Lack of knowledge about Indian foods deters many people from experiencing the remarkably interesting cuisines of this country.

Joan Peterson's "Eat Smart in India" (in her series of "Eat Smart" books) solves this problem. Her book is chock full of information about India's varied and colorful cuisines. "Eat Smart in India" provides an overview of India's history, an in-depth look at the country's regional foods, and a selection of Indian recipes from appetizers to desserts, with color photographs of many of the dishes. But "Eat Smart in India" is much more than an introduction to the culinary cultures of this fascinating country. It's also a practical guidebook that you'll want to take along on your next trip there.

One chapter gives helpful phrases (with their pronunciation) for use in restaurants and food markets. An extensive Menu Guide lists menu items alphabetically, with a description of each dish, followed by a Foods & Flavors Guide with a comprehensive list (and explanation) of Indian ingredients, spices, kitchen utensils, and cooking terminology. And the bibliography is useful to readers who want to delve even further into this subject. As the author states in the Preface, "What better way to get to know a culture than through its cuisine?"

"Eat Smart in India" is a culinary guidebook that should be packed in the luggage of every traveler to India. I've also found it to be a very useful guide to dishes offered at Indian restaurants in the United States. Highly recommended! ----- Sharon Hudgins, author of "The Other Side of Russia: A Slice of Life in Siberia and the Russian Far East"

This latest in Joan Peterson's brainy food travel series is, like her previous guides, small enough to slip into a carry-on and dense with wisdom about how to eat and drink like a local. Peterson and her Indian-born co-author, Indu Menon, neatly handle the history and development of a very complicated cuisine, provide useful food and phrase glossaries, and walk readers through the culinary regions of India dish by dish.

There is no more satisfying way to become immersed in a new culture than to mingle with the local people in the places where they enjoy good food and conversation-in their favorite neighborhood cafes, restaurants, picnic spots or outdoor markets. ~Joan Peterson

Joan Peterson has written Eat Smart guides for Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia, Mexico, Poland and Morocco. She loves to travel and this led her to the creation of the Eat Smart series. Co-author Indu Menon is also a world traveler and was born in India. Together, Joan and Indu delve into a rich culinary history and have created a useful guide for real-life travelers or home chefs who want to explore Indian cuisine.

This guide also includes:

Recipes for the weekend gourmet
Food and Flavors Guide - bilingual translations for virtually everything on an Indian menu
Featured dishes that are considered to be a "national favorite"

"Eat Smart" guides are unique, portable and very readable. Eat Smart in India is the seventh and newest title in the series.

The contents include:

The Cuisine of India - A historical survey of the development of India's cuisine
Regional Indian Food - A quick tour through the Indian kitchen and around the country
Tastes of India - A selection of easy-to-prepare recipes
Shopping in India's Food Markets - Discover foods in exciting outdoor food markets
Resources - A listing of stores, culinary tours and organizations
Helpful Phrases - Phrases for use in restaurants and other useful phrases
Menu Guide - Menu entries in transliterated Hindi
Food and Flavors Guide - Comprehensive glossary of ingredients, kitchen utensils and cooking methods

If you are dreaming of sumptuous boat cruises on the tranquil waterways of Kerala or are dreaming of visiting spice plantations retreats in the hills of Tamil Nadu, this book will inspire you.

I loved reading about the artful blending of spices and the intoxicating descriptions of food preparation. If you have yet to discover nigella seeds, they are delicious on naan bread. Once you read the recipe for "Kachhe Gosht ki Biryani" you might be running to the store for cilantro, saffron and cardamom pods. Basmati rice has the scent of buttered popcorn and I can't think of any rice I love more.

If you are interested in taking a culinary tour, there is information for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the culture and cuisine. The pictures of the "water apple" had me intrigued. I must warn you; this book will make you quite hungry. I might take this book with me the next time I go out to eat at a local Indian restaurant. I keep ordering Tandoori chicken and Biryani, but now I realize there are so many dishes I want to try.

Some of the recipes include: Ghee, Paneer, Masala Chai, Sheer Khurma and Murgh Tikka Buter Masala (marinated grilled chicken pieces are grilled and then cooked in a buttery tomato and cream sauce).

Seldom can one find an economist whose sensitivity to political and social issues coexist in perfect harmony with a technically impecable background. Rodrik is one such rare creature. His book addresses the issue of globalization, defying economic theories and pointing straight to the problem: globalization engenders social instability, that in turn unables financial/economic stability to be sustained. Accoridng to Rodrik, unless attention is given to the "lossers" of this process, protectionism may strike back. Rodrik is successful in showing that globalization is NOT "the end of history", and should not be taken for granted.

In his spellbinding account of the economic realities of globalization, Dani Rodrik gets it right. Whether it is his accounting of the increased elasticity in the job market or his discussion of labor as a factor bearing a higher incidence of non-wage costs, today's economy makes Rodrik seem prophetic. It is a book whose time has come, any thinking person should buy this book.

It seems that over the past few years, the topic of globilization aond free trade have become hot topics because of events like the WTO protests in Seattle, the World Bank protests in DC and Ralph Nader's run for the presidency in 1996 and 2000.

Has globilization gone too far? is a good source for those people trying to find out more about the issue because it shows what happens under globilization both theoritically and in real life. It presents the arguements against free trade and the problems associated it with it like loss of jobs and capital outflows so it is good to understand the oposing view.

Provides indepth analysis of the issues involved...

This is an excellent book that dwells in to the effects of globalization, related issues and potential solutions. It discusses social issues and policies within the context of globalization. It also dwells in to the issues related to labor standards and income distribution. Rodrik presents good solutions but they are debatable and not easy to implement.

I feel that Rodrik discusses solely from the perspectives of industrialized nations' interests. I would have liked him to explore more from the perspectives of under developed/developing nations'.

Review Date: 2000-02-19
In this brave, bold, and frequently shocking report, Ehrbar goes beyond the wink and nod of world finance and thrusts us deep into the underworld of international licensing agreements. With courage and conviction, Ehrbar unravels the shroud of secrecy that weaves this international cartel together leaving this once untouchable creature exposed and naked before the reader's eyes. Using riveting investigative journalism, akin to Morrow, Woodward and Walters, Ehrbar risks his own personal safety to bring us chapter upon chapter of nail-biting intrigue and international espionage. Taking the reader through 14 key international markets, we meet the unscrupulous Dr. No Cho Low of The Peoples Republic who crushes his opponents with his trademark "fine-print". In Chapter 57, tariffs and international trade barriers are cleverly skirted through the underhanded loopholes of Vlad Solvaski. Finally, in Chapter 487, Ehrbar gives us hope that international order will prevail when Morry the orphan refuses to succumb to the "final offer" by making a counter demand that leaves the party of the first part weak and defenseless.

Page after page, chapter after chapter, this book is truly a one of a kind masterpiece. Unfortunately, but understandably, Ehrbar leaves us with many unanswered questions, most notably, the existence of the mysterious 15th key international market. These questions will undoubtedly be answered in the long anticipated sequel, provided, of course, Thomas J. Erhbar, himself, does not become then next victim of the International Market cartel.

This book rules! Never before have I been so entranced by the process of finding a suitable local partner for a license, for example. (Did you know this is generally conducted through private negotiations between the parties concerned? In Chile, at least. It's true. All true.)

It sure pisses me off that MacMillan let this masterpiece go out of print. Who the hell is Business International anyway?

This book is for all readers. Not to mention other things, it contains several dozen case studies on global multinationals doing business in China, like Wal-Mart, P&G, Intel, HSBC, Bank of America, Ford, Siemens, BP, Unilever, Sony, GE, GM, Morgan Stanley, and Microsoft. (Amazingly, this revised and updated volume gives most current info on China -- even events happened in May 2006 are contained here.)

It also gives huge info on emerging Chinese multinationals. All the leading Chinese companies such as Haier, Huawei, TCL, Lenovo, China Telecom, Baosteel, China Oil, Sinopec, CNOOC, and Ping An are studied here. Furthermore, comparisons are made between the Chinese companies and their international counterparts. These discussions are straightforward, covering both strengths and weaknesses.

Its scope is rather wide: the author aims to identify key factors behind global development: causes, effects, and consequences. He offers vast info and analysis on a changing global production, investment and trade map, which involves all nations, rich or poor. Interesting comparative studies involve US, Canada, Europe, India, Japan and China. Above all, he pinpoints opportunities and challenges under globalization.

Also it is highly critical of the abusive Chinese bureaucratic power. Gu claims that China's fundamental weakness is with this overextended, self-appointed bureaucratic power. Vast info and facts are presented to support his statement.

He is a high-profile newspaper commentator/consultant that adds much color to his discussions. The book's key strengths come from the fact that the author has vast first-hand experiences, so that he gives countless insider's stories. Its style and presentation is very reader friendly and straightforward, but its analysis is overpowering.

Author Gu is a brave fellow. He offers straightfoward info and analysis on what is really inside Chinese business and political world. He is highly critical of the Communist ills that continue to cause hellish problems for China and foreign operations inside. Other than this abusive bureaucratic power, Chinese people are very diligent and creative. But the key is to get rid of the overextended bureaucratic power, as so claims by Gu.

This book is a must read -- it is a rare book that reveals the inner workings of the Chinese bureaucratic system. This new edition is very nice, which is sharply revised and expanded. (Five stars for his new edition)

Author George Zhibin Gu is a high-profile Chinese journalist whose powerful newspaper pieces are widely read. This book is a must read. The reason for my recommendation is simple: This book summarises the key lessons from a fast-changing China under globalization and capitalism.

These lessons are powerful. First, an open society is a must in order to gain true development. Second, having foreign involvement is a key driving force for China's quick development in this era. Third, a truly meaningful development must depend on individual private initiatives other than government bureaucracy.

This book gives rather straightforward analysis on what is behind China's new development. It gives tremendous information on foreign multinationals and investors doing biz inside. Furthermore, it gives huge info on how this foreign involvement affects China's society, government and economy. In particular, it is extremely open about the ills of the Chinese bureaucracy. To overcome bureaucratic barriers, it emphasizes the need for greater private initiative as well as openness, among other things.

Also, the book talks about the ever-increasing influences of China's surge on global development. It gives very insightful analysis on a changing global production, investment, and trade map, as well as manufacturing and job transfers, among other issues.

The book also offers much practical advice on doing biz in China. Numerous case studies are presented, including both successes and failures.
