realistic guide to the developing world
The book provides a hard hitting summary of both the risks and opportunities of the developing countirs. It also included a lot of solutions to the problems one faces. I liked the way in which it addressed issues from an operating company, equity investor's, and lender's perspectives. Nobody else does that. The anecdotes on various regions were entertaining.

Highly Recommended!
Former investment banker Jeffrey C. Hooke now carries out financial deals in the developing world. He describes the potential for doing business or investing in the world's 156 emerging markets. Hooke is realistic about the great risks - such as unstable governments in impoverished countries - but he highlights future potential. His book is a solidly researched and clearly written guide to assessing the business climate and deciding what types of products make the most sense in different developing countries. After an overview of the nature of emerging markets, why companies want to participate in or avoid these markets, and how to invest and make loans there, he looks at particular markets in Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa. We [...] recommend this worthy book to those considering working or investing in emerging markets, but academics or readers interested in how business is conducted in foreign places may also be intrigued.

Endless Enemies: The Making of an Unfriendly World

Eye-opening
This is an excellent and thought provoking guide to American foreign policy. This is one of those muckraking books that not only shreds the conventional line, but also forms a clear and convincing synthesis in its place. If you want to understand how business interests, the World Bank, the IMF, and Cold War politics fit together to make the world we have today -- read this book.

A little outdated, but still right on for today's standards!
Although this book is over 15 years old, everything it states still seems to stand to be true- Which only shows as a Country how much we aren't changing in the areas we should be. I was very impressed with this book, the knowledge and the variety of views. Great reading, and grab your highlighter!!

Good book to learn about Philippines without going @^:^@
More than a travel guide, it spends more time on background and the meaning of sites in the Philippines. Many beautiful photos. Good book to learn about Philippines without going. My American friends that have read this book say it was BiG help to them in understanding not just travel only.

Very Informative
This is one of the books you should get when you're going to the Philippines. It is a very long book filled with good detailed facts. The photographers who took the pictures got very good shots of the Philippines. Another good thing about this book is that is has very good information when your touring the Philippines in the back of the book. It tells you information about the weather, lodging, holidays and festivals, what should be worn, and even how to speak basic Tagalog (the official language of the Philippines). There's a lot of things I haven't mentioned. If you want a good quality guidebook on the Philippines, then you should try this book!

Afghanistan Pakistan Rv Pocket Map

Still the best
This two-sided map easily outperforms other maps that are commercially available either on-line or in stores. The only map that comes close is the Afghanistan map in the Nelles Maps series, and the legend of the Nelles map cuts out the areas in Pakistan bordering the Afghan provinces of Paktia and Paktika, where considerable military action is taking place. This map serves as an outstanding teaching tool, enabling teachers to physically show the range of Pakhtun territory without sacrificing detail of topography and settlement. As a bonus, the map shows a substantial chunk of northern and western India, including all of Kashmir, all of Punjab, and parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Afghanistan does not exist in isolation, and this map is a good starting point for exploring Afghanistan's connections to the rest of the world. One hopes that the "limited availability" of this map does not indicate that it is no longer in print. Otherwise one is left with detailed maps of an Afghanistan detached from its neighbors or with the useless, data-poor, primary-color maps available on the web.

Baltic States: Euro Cart - Country Map

This is the best of the Baltic guide books-- Buy it!
Wow, Roger Williams has edited a wonderful book! This travel guide is much more than a basic Fodor's or Mobil type guide. It is full of beautiful full-color photographs-- I would say a couple hundred... In fact every page has at least one photo. "Baltic States" is printed on high quality paper and reads much like a great pictorial magazine.

This is not to say it is a light-weight when it comes to material. There is substantial history and background included. It's enough to satisfy your interest, but not so much that it turns into an overbearing text book.

Equal treatment is given to all three Baltic states: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It guides you though the must see attractions as well as historical spots. As I read it, I felt as though I had a person walking side by side through the various sights.

Another thing I love is their "Yellow Pages" format for the nitty gritty travel details at the back of the book. You'll find all the basics you need to know that all the other good travel guides would offer. Obviously they do this to make it easier to produce new editions, as well as locating all the key facts with an easy to use format.

This book receives my highest recommendation for an incredible travel guide and addition to your home library.

One clear sign of how barbaric the US has become
Is that this is out-of-print and I am the first reviewer of it.

Written by a Libertarian stalwart, the late Wall Street Journal reporter Jonathan Kwitny, it contains detailed history of US foreign commitments, especially in the early 1980s.

That even from a laissez-faire perspective American foreign policy is both misguided and criminal did not sit well with our corporatist media.

If you read and memorize the history in this book you will automatically gain 25 IQ points in any discussion of world events. Astound your friends, who will nickname you "commie," "creepy" and "that person who thinks too much."

European Integration and Foreign Direct Investment in the EU
I think this book explains very well how the economic integration in the Europe affects on the Korean consumer electronics firms. In particular, the empirical survey is very useful for not only Korean firms but also firms in other less developed countries, which consider to make FDIs in the Europe.
