waste of money!!!!

I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter and I, an intelligent 41 year old woman was unable to make the "pop-ups" described. The illustrations were not clear and there were no dimensions or measurements. I am extremely disappointed!!!

Good introduction to making books for children. This book can be used by an adult wanting to create books for children or by children to create their own books with the assistance of an adult. Another book by the same author is Making Shaped Books.

Frustration Personified

I'm sorry I ordered this ebook. Forcing a buyer to use the Acrobat eReader is presumptuous and unfair. Some of the problems inflicted upon the buyer are:
1. The index does not allow one to go DIRECTLY to the chapter of interest.
2. The navigation buttons are too small.
3. It would be better to use the original Acrobat interface to interact with an ebook.
4. Purchasing this book does not entitle you to print any pages. The author has tables with criteria which could be printed out for your own use, but the software does not permit printing. Even if one could print, the price of the book is increased by paper and ink consumed in doing so. The book is expensive enough without being responsible for publishing it on your own. How ridiculous!
5. The author refers to internet links for reference, yet the user cannot copy the link nor click on it. I tried typing one of the given links--http://cyberatlas.internet.com/big_picture/hardware/reasons.html
The link is long, time consuming and doesn't work.
6. The rotation feature is poorly constructed and is more trouble than it's worth.
7. Viewing 2 pages to speed up the viewing process is also frustrating. When you try to zoom in on the page to read it on the right, the text expands making reading impossible.
8. What do I do if my computer dies. I have no back-up to use the book, and so I would need to purchase it again.
9. This isn't a book to curl up with nor one I can read it on the way to the office. All of the above spells: SCAM! Word of mouth should help this book wind up as a loser for you economically. I surely won't recommend it.
I thought I would be able to print the book to use in a normal way. How about a refund? Maybe I could do a reverse download to dump on you like you've dumped on me.

An outdated, elementary lesson in Internet Marketing

Good try, Mathiesen. Millions of people are scrambling for the answers to 'Net marketing and e-commerce questions; so I can't fault you for trying to answer their call. But don't waste trees publishing books that are outdated in months. Put it on the 'Net. If you pride yourself in having a site that updates your book, don't let it be Netscape's site where your readers won't even find you with a site search. Are you still updating it?

Readers, why spend money on a book about a topic that is changing daily? One example is that Mathiesen mentions, "The Internet represents a communications tool that rivals television and will one day merge with television." Like WebTV, perhaps? Also, the book brags that it offers free Netscape browser software ($50 value"), when Netscape is now downloadable off the 'Net for free.

If you must read this book, wait for the new edition. Or buy this one and marvel about how much has changed. Better yet, communicate with people in the industry, read 'Net and computer magazines, and surf for answers.
